WOW great sarcasmz! you ownz! and um, yes, this thread has everything to do with Luther Head, because had we gotten rid of that guy, we would've been able to keep 2 future prospects with great potential.. heck, having any NBA-level player at this point is better than having Luther Head (intramural team at best)..
Its the smart move for Houston Its obvious either one of these guys would play a very small role, if any, on this team. Even if DJ is better all around, the only thing he truly excels at is D, while Wafer is a really good shooter, WHO CAN GET HIS SHOT OFF WITHOUT A PROBLEM. That's the key right there. One of the main reasons why Luther is still around is his shot, although he's bombed in the playoffs, he's usually fairly consistent, BUT he can't get his shot off whenver he wants. If Wafer can show defensive talent at least as good as luther's during the season, then Luther is gone. Even if he doesn't replace Luther eventually, he's still a nice weapon to have because this team doesn't have another perimeter shooter like that besides tmac (that can create space and get his shot off when the defense knows he's going to shoot it and actually make it).
I'm betting that Wafer gets a lot more minutes than you all think he does. Who in our backcourt can score besides T-Mac? Barry is probably our most consistent guard scorer, then Brooks, and both of them can barely create their own shot. Wafer has the potential to get a lot of minutes. I bet he sees the floor with Brooks a lot.
DJ or Mumtumo? That was the ultimate question. Good choice again by Morey. Like always, you're going to be praising him once all is said and done.
Good decision. If T-Mac goes down someone is gonna get some minutes, and whoever that someone is better be a capable scorer. Wafer can at least keep a defense honest.
i think they made the decision based on financial issues first and health issues second. with battier still not ready and mcgrady not at 100 % wafer is a valid option for minutes at the 2 and maybe at the 3.
Glad Wafer is signed....he's a hell of a shooter. May turn out to be the best shooter along with Battier and Barry.
Would you guys do Head and Francis for Damon Jones? Looks like Bucks have PG's and you know he can shoot.
Did anyone here who watched Game 2 of the World Series last night hear announcers Joe Buck and Tim McCarver talk about how the percentage of blacks has decreased over the past decade or two, in which many of them either were lost to the NFL or the NBA? I think that DJ Strawberry is among those blacks who chose another sport (which was the NBA) over Baseball since he didn't follow his father's footsteps. As far as the decision made by the Rockets to waive him is concerned, I know like everyone else on this board knows that it was not an easy decision to make. Personally, I would have liked to have seen both of them kept, but that would have meant the Rockets having to trade away somebody for future draft picks, which is typically not easy to do at this time when most of the other teams around the league are just focused on trimming their rosters. DJ Strawberry will get his chance to play for another team at some time later on this season most likely by signing 10-day contracts to replace injured players to start with.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ht4XIWoyIo 2nd to Lebron James in that dunk comp. Kid shoots the 3 and dunks. Very JR Smith like. I'm glad Houston went with Vakeaton "Von" Wafer. Now that he's a rocket we might as well know his first name.
That 7 3pointer explosion by Wafer booked his ticket on the Rockets roster. Barry and Head are backing Tmac but they don't really create their own shot. This move is just insurance against injuries and to free up a spot for signing Deke or another center.
Wafer's our insurance policy for T-Mac and Battier until they get healthy enough to play regularly. And it's not like he's taking T-Mac's minutes if T-Mac needs more time to rehab--the whole rotation would just move up a bit (Barry, then Head, then Wafer) and he would get 5-15 minutes for each game T-Mac sits and 0 MPG otherwise. I doubt we keep him the whole year, just until we can be confident that T-Mac and Battier are back in game shape.
I think Head will probably be traded, or Wafer is gonna be cut later. Wafer is an unproven (and cheaper) version of Head. No need to keep both.
