My sarcasm meter isn't picking this one up. That's a joke right? Rox made a good choice in keeping Wafer. We need his shooting more than we need Strawberrys D. Not that we'll see much of him anyway other than cheerleading at the end of the bench.
Wafer won't play much unless we get injuries(knock on wood) I would have been happy either way, but a part of me was rooting for Wafer cause he has a cool name Strawberry is cool too, but I don't like him as much since his father is Darrell Strawberry
Honestly I think Strawberry had no shot from the outset. We traded a 2nd-rounder with a minimum guaranteed contract (Singletary) to get a 2nd-rounder with a more expensive, non-guaranteed contract. It was pretty apparent from the outset that the reason we traded Singletary for Strawberry was to get out from under Singletary's contract. It was always about the money and never about the player.
Morey made the right call now its time to get rid of the other scrub...the one who overstayed his welcome for the past 3 yrs..
It's too bad someone had to get cut. DJ will eventually find a roster spot in the NBA, he looked pretty good in the spot times he got. In the end I think it did come down to that guaranteed stipulation on DJ's contract. Wafer better bring his game face every night cause with our injuries, there's a possibility he'll be suited up when the season starts and get spot minutes. Good luck DJ. Wafer, here's your chance.
I agree, keeping either one doesn't matter. We are only dressing 12 players anyway and numbers 10 - 12 don't play that much anyway. Why do posters fret over the non playing dudes. Focus on the top 9 (10 maybe) and move fwd. Von won't see the floor unless we're up by 30 and have 3 significant injuries. I like him better than Luther, who turns my stomach trying to play low post D., the boy is softer than hot butter.
It is all about the money, the guaranteed contract of DJ causes his job here, but he could find a spot in another team. It is a good choice for the rockets because Wafer is a better shooter. You always keep a good shooter when you have Yao and TMac on the team.
DJ Strawberry signed an contract amendment yesterday to remove the guaranteed stipulation. So, it's not about the guaranteed stipulation.
I'm just glad that the roster is so deep that this decision was as difficult as it was. But seriously, neither guy would/will see the floor much unless there is some huge disaster. Just can't believe we have a Rafer and a Wafer on the team. That is wired.
I love Morey and all, but Luther Head is still on the team is a frickin travesty .. I hope there's a move coming soon, because I see no way this player could contribute to any NBA team...EVER..
I like Strawberry more than Wafer, but Wafer's performance made the decision for the Rockets. IMO, we need a large backup PG and Strawberry fit that bill. I think he would have a better chance of getting playing time during the season. Wafer is a one-trick pony who is worthless unless his shot is going in. But props to him for playing his way on to the team, even if he's rarely active. Welcome aboard. Maybe this is the first step to something bigger.
Why not Hayes? He can guard 1-5. If Alston is injured, I just feel uncomfortable if we put Brooks on Williams. Strawberry could be used here although only occasionally. But defense at point guard position seems to be our biggest weakness.
Adelman might use him as trade bait since he did so good in the preseason. Package him and head away for a bigger point guard.
