His D-League performance was pretty disappointing so I can't say I'm surprised. Best of luck to Scott though, I'll always root for him because he replied to me once on twitter.
Scott had one pretty elite skill (for a rookie), which is his passing (especially in transition). But his turnover prone style plus lack of skills in terms of scoring/shooting and defense means he needs to work on his weaknesses a couple of years before a team can play him real minutes and can count on him. Personally, I think he needs to grow up. He isn't half as good as he thinks he is, and he needs to recognize it and work hard on his game, instead of just thinking he is a great passer and that's all he needs to be. If people think Toney Douglas gets bounced on screens and is lazy to recover, they haven't seen Machado defending a PnR.
I was playing basketball last night at the PSA gym. And then, one of the basketball we were using were missing and we looked all over the place. I was walking around and I saw this guy dribbling it so I went up and he gave it back to me. As I started walking back, my friend came up to me and said, "hey, you just took the ball from him?" "Yeah" I replied... Then my friend said " he used to play for the Rockets".... I stop and turned around and looked at him and realized that it was Scott Machado. He came to play basketball with us that night and he was a pretty cool guy. Since being waived by the Rockets, Scott was just trying to get it off his mind and playing pick up games... I hope he will find a team that will pick him up soon because he's such a nice kid and a guy like Royce White does not deserve a roster spot.
Nah, I forgot to ask him about that. It was just kind of cool getting to play basketball with him... I think he's going to come back again but not sure when.
