    BobFinn,

I did. Just didn't get that one-thought you were talking about Oatdog somehow. I graduated from Ike in '93. Who are you? E-mail me so we don't waste space here.

Nugzfan, the internet is a very new medium of communication. I know I haven't been on here often, but your post just sounded rude.

Maybe, instead of "y'all ain't in the Sonics league........" you could say "I still think the Sonics may have the talent edge on you, blah blah blah......"

I'll stand by what I said. I think we improved more than Seattle did, though I don't know we are better. I'm nota big Ewing fan. In his prime, he was a great scorer, of course he got the ball alot. Defensively, I think he may have been above- average and that's generous.

What was the last championship the Nuggets won ? When was the last time Denver made the playoffs ? We may not be in Seattle's league, but we are closer to them than the Nuggets are to us. Your own columnist has marveled at our short rebuilding process while laughing at Denver's ten year plan (must have followed Elgin Baylor's blueprints).

Actually, that is an insult... a pretty low one at that. [IMG]

It's not only impossible to accept, it's impossible for it to happen! [IMG]

Replacing a re-dedicated Baker and the Ho with an older, more fragile Olajuwon-like center doesn't make them "out of our league." It's just yet another example of the crap that goes on in their front office that's responsible for them throwing away superstar power forwards and brilliant coaches.

Crisco, you are wrong. Even if the nugz have the worst record, they don't have a great chance of getting the first pick. Unless you think 25% is great. You don't think that do you ? I think you owe nugzfan an apology. [IMG]

The Knicks were a better team without Ewing, imo. They ran more, and were more energetic. When Ewing was lost for the 1999 playoffs, the Knicks did not miss him at all.

Why then, would anybody think this trade would make the Sonics any better?

In a 7 game series, I like the Rockets over the Sonics. Payton is no longer the defender he once was, and the young Rockets guards will win the matchup. I think the frontcourt is even.

    Nugzfan,

You're not in the same league as the posters here on ClutchBBS.

    There, how does that feel?

Don't worry, though. It wasn't an insult, just a statement of fact. [IMG]

Sorry to disobey you, but Francis WILL win some of the matchups against Payton THIS year. They are close enough in talent that if Payton has an off night, and Stevie is feeling good, Francis will be better than Payton. You can not deny this possibility.

Also, Baker is overrated, Ewing will slow down any young team, and Barry is not anyone's answer for shooting guard. I will say it again- ROCKETS IN 7! [IMG]

Offensively at least, Barry is as good as Anderson, if not better. His 3-pt percentage is higher and he has a greater assist rate. His rebounding and overall shooting is about the same.

Now, behind Barry, I don't know who plays the 2-guard. Is it Lewis sliding over? If so, I think Cuttino wins that matchup offensively.

We probably have a slight edge at the 2, while Seattle has a slight edge at the point with Williams and Payton over Norris and Francis.

Overall, I think the backcourts are a wash.

Ruben Patterson plays some backup 2, as well as Shammond Williams.

    Hoop-T,

Patterson might go to jail for a couple of years for beating some guy.

    Bob,
Yeah, I posted the story about Patterson being a thug. Interesting that he did that, simply because I had always heard he was cool tempered and laid back.

It must have been over a woman!

Close enough in talent?!?! I DON'T THINK SO! hey, listen, i love Francis n all but don't you think you are WAAAAY over-rating Steve by comapring him ALREADY to the best point guard in the league and saying that he'll get the edge over him this season?? Remember, Payton dropped like 45 points in his last matchup with Steve Francis. A CAREER HIGH!!!

    CompacC,

It was 43 and not 45 and Mobley had 35.

It's a VERY slippery slope to take one game as an example of one players' dominance over another. That logic bites back hard when it fails.

In the other 3 games, Payton and Francis had nearly identical stats. Considering Francis played a little HS ball (2 years I think), 2 years of JUCO ball and 1 year at Maryland - I'd say he did a helluva job. Factor in that PG was a new positiion and I think the comparisons are right around the corner if there not here already.

Payton is the man at PG, but Steve Francis is closing that gap at "supersonic" speed!

I thought the Sonics shooting guard was Desmond Mason.

The Sonics will greatly benefit from Ewing's services if he stays remotely healthy. They have not had a bonafide center....and Grant was playing there out of position, as well as Baker. But I think the Sonics bolstered their frontcourt with this move. Baker is rumored to be in good shape and has payed well in the Olympics. Add Ewing, and the complexity of their team changes at both ends of the floor for the better.

Francis is not yet the player Payton is. It will be a few more years before that occurs.

That being said, who knows what will happen when they face off. Both teams are capable of putting a lot of points on the board.

    ANY GIVEN NIGHT........

But regarding the playoffs, no one is a LOCK. A few key injuries and WOOPS, there goes the season (see San Antonio Spurs). It is ludicrous to say that Seattle is a lock for a 5 seed. Talk to me about 3/4 through the season.
