Ahh, the magic of a world championship. But Maxwell said his newfound respect didn't extend far beyond friends in Gainesville and Houston. There is apparently at least one pocket of disrespect.

Maxwell said that during a summer trip, he ventured to New York for a brief visit. While dancing in a nightclub, Maxwell ran into Charles Oakley and Anthony Bonner of the Knicks.

"They roughed me up a little bit in the restroom," Maxwell said. "Other than that, the people have been pretty good."

Oakley and Bonner? Resorting to fisticuffs over having been denied the Lawrence O'Brien Trophy?

"They just jumped on me, punching and shoving me," Maxwell said. "It was all in fun."

You can't fight in them PJ's. Unless it's a pillow fight.

1996-97 was absolutely my favorite basketball season. It is a shame that it had to end with a Karl Malone bearhug, but seeing the big three together in some proximity to their primes was awesome. Just think, they could have been together for their entire careers if the Rox had traded Ralph for Clyde and the #2. How many titles does a team that has the Glyde, the Round Mound, and the Dream for 15 years win?

Wow! Thanks for the flashback. I sure do miss the time when real men played the game. You sure don't see that kind of enforcement anymore. Not that I'm for thug brawling or anything of the sort, but back then defensive bigs made their name by playing a physical brand of basketball which definitely added a dimension not seen anymore in today's games.
