Ex-NBAer jailed Maxwell turns himself in after violating probation Posted: Thursday August 23, 2007 1:03AM; Updated: Thursday August 23, 2007 1:03AM GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) -- Former NBA player and University of Florida standout Vernon Maxwell was jailed without bond in Alachua County for a probation violation, according to jail records. Maxwell turned himself in to authorities Sunday, the Gainesville Sun reported. He violated probation by not paying the state for his supervision, possessing a controlled substance and failing to pay court-ordered child support, Spencer Mann, of the State Attorney's Office, told the newspaper. Mann said Maxwell was arrested this past year in North Carolina for drug possession charges. Maxwell, a three-time all-Southeastern Conference selection, played at Florida from 1985-88. During his 13-year NBA career, Maxwell helped the Houston Rockets to NBA titles in 1994 and 1995. It was not immediately known if Maxwell had a lawyer, and a phone message left afterhours with his former attorney was not immediately returned. The phone at the State Attorney's Office in Alachua County rang unanswered early Tuesday morning. This is not Maxwell's first child support problem. Maxwell was jailed in Jan. 2005 in Washington state after his arrest as a fugitive on an outstanding arrest warrant from Florida. He was transferred to Alachua County from Georgia in 2004 to face a felony charge of failure to pay more than $160,000 in child support. Maxwell was later released on bond and told to stay in the county until the case was resolved. A warrant was issued for his arrest in Dec. 2004 on when he failed to appear for a hearing. enough about clyde. He is a damn good player, i do not want to dispute his greatness. His a hall of famer, and that is good!!!!!!!!!!!! Let me try a different way, since you guys did not refute that the boards game will be won by the bulls, I assume that you guys agree that rox without hakeem would lose the boards game. since you guys did not refute that if hakeem was not in the game, his void cannot be filled by any players, while if jordan was out of the bulls team, they could "manage reasonably" well. I assume that you guys agree that hakeem was more important to the rox than jordan is to the bulls. since the bulls team of 96, are more experience then the rox team of 95, i would assume a slight advantage to the bulls, the coaching staff of bulls are better than rox, so another slight advantage to the bulls. The starting 4 of rox as said by pocket rocket, clyde, cassell, horry and elie, and the starting 4 of bulls are pippen, harper, kokoc and rodman. Going by the popular sayings of the board, the rox are better than bulls. What about the rest of the bulls team and the rox team? I leave it to you guys to have the say. So again i say, if there is no hakeem, there would not be any chance of the rox team to be heros. what a great hero...if only all the kids would aspire to be like Vernon Maxwell the world would be a better place.
hey, i love my championship rockets. have pride in what was accomplished, but Bud and Kelly get pretty tired of the same old story.
dude, you're the one who keeps changin the criteria, and derailing the thread. what board game? i think you need to play some NBA Trivial Pursuit.
Max didn't have that kind of $$$ anymore. greedy people! Big deal, so Max smokes the weed. Don't worry Max! We love you, the haters can burn in that other place, you may be in prison, but they can never take away your heart cause you have a heart of a champion!!
you're so tired you keep reading my posts like this is the latest Harry Potter book (look macalu the burning chicken on the cover!, look macalu, look!)
1995 game 4 vs. utah - scored 40+ pts 1995 game 5 vs. utah - kept the team in the game when it looked bleak in the 4th qtr 1995 game 5 vs. phoenix (flu) - hit 2 clutch free throws in ot 1995 game 1 vs. orlando - down 20, dream in foul trouble, got the team withing 11 by half those are moments of a hof, all star, top 50, whatever you want to call it alvin choo. two things here: 1. quit saying the rockets wouldnt be as good without olajuwon and not make the same mention of the bulls without jordan. If olajuwon created these opportunites for our heroes, then jordan created the same opportunities for his role players. 2. THE BULLS NEVER GOT DOWN 3-1 IN A SERIES, OR WERE IN AN ELIMINATION GAME, therefore the experience factor is only in jordan and pippen. (HEART OF A CHAMPION) so again to say, if there is no jordan, there would not be any chance of the bulls team to be role players.
Jordan was the main and ONLY TRUE HERO for the Bulls. Jordan was the one who CREATES THE WINNING SHOT opportunities for HIMSELF and OTHERS. Pippen was the 2nd best on that team. but POST JORDAN, he proved that he COULD NOT CREATE WINNING SHOTS or HIT THEM. evidence: HOUSTON ROCKETS PIPPEN deffering to CUTTINO MOBLEY (ROOKIE) Houston Rocket HEROES DO NOT DEFER and DO HIT GAME WINNING SHOTS Post Hakeem evidence: Horry, Cassell
thanks seng, we need to educate people, drop knowledge on them. Everyone on this board should know how awesome Sam is with Rockets, Clippers, Wolves, whomever. that leadership, love, and skill is something that Sam had over many other players.
thanks for the "education".... you read things that do not support what you like, you just flame it down. you can have your "heroes" of rox who got 2 rings, while bulls got 6 rings with "role" players. history shows whos the better team is, history shows that between 4 games played between rox-bulls at 94-95 season and 95-96 season, bulls won 3 of those games. oh, well....
Alvin, what happened to the 94-1995 Bulls? who did they have? how far did they get in the playoffs? Google that for us, oh great Toni Kukoc 20points guy.
Oh well, that you keep changing your arguments. Here's another long article for you to read, I hope its not too long since you don't like reading facts with lots of words and stats. Paper: Houston Chronicle Date: SUN 06/12/2005 Section: Sports Page: 4 Edition: 4 STAR ROCKETS / 10 YEARS AFTER / No Bull? Rockets say they still would have won like Mike By FRAN BLINEBURY Staff Ten years later and it's still there, hanging over their legacy. In the two years when the Rockets won their back-to-back championships, Michael Jordan was off pursuing a baseball career and then making his first NBA comeback. The critics contend that those championship banners would not be flying in Houston and the Chicago Bulls might have won eight titles in a row. The Rockets themselves would have loved to have proven everybody wrong. "There should be no doubt or label of fluke on our championships," said Hakeem Olajuwon. "As for Michael Jordan, a lot of people don't know and never looked up our matchups with Chicago during that time. If you check the records, you'll see that we beat them on a consistent basis when Michael was playing and winning his first three championships. "(Vernon) Maxwell guarded Michael and gave him problems. In '95, we would have had Mario Elie on him. They didn't have anyone who could contain me. Chicago was never a problem for us. We always looked forward to playing them. A lot of people don't realize that." The Rockets, in fact, had a 5-1 record vs. Jordan and the Bulls from 1991 through 1993, the span of Chicago's first "three-peat." After a loss on his home floor at Chicago Stadium in 1993, Jordan said, "We have no answer for the big guy. It's a good thing they won't ever make it to the (NBA) Finals, because I don't think we could beat them." Head coach Rudy Tomjanovich is philosophical. "It's one of those things, a good sports debate," he said. "But we don't have to apologize to anybody. I've actually talked to Michael about that topic several times. He's always told me he thought those would have been some helluva playoff series." Elie is defiant. "That's the one thing that still sticks with me and bothers me, not getting to play Chicago in the Finals," he said. "Hey, it's not our fault that Jordan wasn't there. We're not the ones who told him to go try baseball. "We had a team that lined up against anybody and could beat anybody out there. I always wanted the challenge of going against `the greatest' in the Finals. If there's a gap, that's it. That we didn't get to play them. But there's nobody that can tell me we couldn't play with them. "Hey, that's my biggest regret about that John Stockton shot that went in for Utah in '97. I was ready to play Chicago that year. With Dream, Clyde (Drexler) and Charles (Barkley), we'd have beaten them then, too."
