Thanks for the post. Is Head good enough to get major minutes this year? It would be nice to get a solid contribution from a 24 pick, if we don't sign some players this offseason, he may be it in terms of new blood around here.
Thanks for the update, KAS. I saw Badiane play a few summer-league games two years ago, and while he was raw both offensively and defensively, he still had some game. Not much, mind you, but some. A couple of other ClutchFans posters were there and also thought highly of Badiane. He may have sucked today, but you never know what's going on with someone -- Badman could simply be jet-lagged or be getting used to the Houston humidity or something. So let's not panic: I say let's see what he does over the next 10 days. Still, we probably should expect that he'll be in Europe or in the NBDL this year. He's certainly not going to solve any of our problems right away.
Violette is a power forward out of Gonzaga a year+ ago, and played in Italy last year. Here's the breakdown of the initial summer league roster: http://www.clutchfans.net/news.cfm?NewsID=1227 Thanks for the update on the practice.
Thanks Kas!!! I'm glad to hear that Head is adapting well. Though these workouts are not at the level of NBA play, it's nice to know he stands out. As for Malick... - I was hoping he would come around. Time to move on. Thanks again
Thanks for the update. This sort of reaffirms what I've heard about Luther. Unfortunately, it also confirms my belief about Badianne and I'm ready to close the book on him and move on.
I am glad to have your updates, but do you think your excitement might be getting in the way of reason with this statement? I find it very hard to believe that a low first rounder is already better than two NBA vets who have proven themselves over multiple years. I hope you are right (really, really hope), obviously, but it is not as if he is going against full NBA-level talent, right?
KAS13, any chance of Luther Head starting at guard next season? I can't wait to see him play as well as TMac & Yao.
Not really. Sura and Wesley are pretty much done. Head is a great athlete (38 inch vertical and he uses it too), a good defender, pretty solid ball handler and great shooter. He nailed a clutch 3 today at the end of one of the games (even though some other throater came down and hit the game winner) so you know he's not afraid to step up. I understand the comptetion is not NBA caliber but you can tell when somebody is going to be good or not. Unless he completely freezes up in the nBA he's better for us then Sura and Wesley now. Sura might have an edge in toughness and Wesley on defense (only because he's been around forever) but other then that there is nothing these two do better then Head. That's just a fact.
KAS13 probably is saying Luther Head is better than the often injured Sura and most of the time undersize SG Wesley. Sometimes it's clear to see if one player is better than the other player.
That's really tough to say. It guess it would depend on how he does when we get into full squad scrimmages. Let's just say it wouldn't shock me if he was playing major minutes next season.
Did you pay any attention to Pat Carroll? I've watched a lot of St. Joes games the past couple years, and I thought he could possibly be a poor man's Tim Legler-ish type player if he made it into the NBA. He has very slow feet, but he's just such a good shooter...
That's a pretty bold statement, and worth a bookmark. Both Sura and Wesley contributed a hell of a lot last season... too much, if you know what I mean. Too many minutes for Wes, and too many for Sura when he should have been in physical therapy instead. If Head can contribute close to as much as either one, that's a huge plus considering the pick. We'll see. We're starved for info, so keep it coming. In closing, the Rockets got great Head at the end of the first round. CD must have been very happy Admit it... you were dyin' to uncork that one!
