Other players Lawson simply unable to thrive with: Trevor Ariza Patrick Beverley Corey Brewer Sam Dekker Montrezl Harrell Dwight Howard Terrence Jones KJ McDaniels Donatas Motiejunas Josh Smith Jason Terry Marcus Thornton Chuck Hayes
Ish Smith is getting close to 20 FGA/gm, since NOLA dumped him on the 76ers. Not room enough for two PGs to showcase themselves on expiring contracts.
If someone claims him, they are buying the entire buyout amount, and Rockets pay $0. No one will do that. He will clear waivers. That way the new team only pays the vet minimum portion and the previous team/Rockets pays the rest.
What does last night's win have to do with anything? Lawson didn't have a damn thing to do with that. He's a useless player here. The Rockets are pretty clear that they're not trying to tank games, so there's no reason for Lawson to be here, because that's the only thing he'd provide.
I agree mostly with what you say, but the 76ers MAY want to claim him if he has a non-guaranteed contract for next year. Will only cost them $3mill, they can play him heavy minutes and if he produces they now have an attractive trade asset they can flip for an asset But really it would be a strange way of going about things.
He reminds me of Vin Baker and I don't just mean the alcohol. Vin Baker seemed to be mentally checked out of basketball, even when he was getting second chances. Lawson just doesn't even look like he has a desire to TRY to be a good player. It's really weird because the other players like him still and he's apparently a good guy in the locker room, but on the court he just doesn't seem to be able to light the fire inside.
Ty Lawson CANNOT be claimed off waivers. No team has enough cap room to absorb his $12.4M salary. Whatever amount he agrees to in a buyout would not affect his cap hit until he clears waivers.

Ironic how J.B. gave up on Thornton, refuses to play Harrel yet continues to believe in Ty, TJ & Brewer.
