Tim McDougall, Rockets Vice President of Marketing http://www.nba.com/media/rockets/03mediaguide_001_054.pdf
Maybe history will repeat itself. ESPN made their worst hire ever with Hardaway. Then they replaced him with their best basketball hire ever in Greg Anthony. Who would have thought a UNLV player from that era would have actually been getting an education? Maybe Greg has a brother the Rox can hire.
Looks like about 1%/99% for/against. But Tim, you may have found a great marketing opportunity here. How many people would pay an extra $1-$2 per game to have someone else doing the color? A premium subscription for the alternate color analyst. These guys don't work for free, so it could be a way to have a neutral cost impact. A good measure of value is how much someone is willing to pay for something.
This is horrible. If this is true we must start a petition or something. I like Coop but she is not a good commentator. I cannot stress how upset I am.
GOOD GOD, Finally something that is worst then Malone joining the Rox.... Well maybe its not that bad, Imma have to start muting the TV and turning on 610 and listen to G. Peterson.
What the heck?! Some of you guys should really follow the RCP(READ, COMPREHEND, POST) before posting. Tim has stated that this is an untrue rumor time and time again already.
Since plenty of people have expressed opinions close to mine about Cooper, I'll just add that I'd really like to see Bullard take Calvin's spot. I will actually listen to Comets games on the radio because Bullard is enjoyable to listen to. If Calvin comes back, I'd like to see Bullard do the half time show. I think the worst thing the Rockets can do is turn Matt Bullard away after he has shown so much interest in doing just about any broadcasting position for the Rockets/Comets. B
Bill Worrell doesn't light my fire either. He ain't no Marv Alpert, can't see the Rox teaming Coop with Worrell. It would put most of the viewers to sleep by halftime.
Tim, As someone with a broadcast Journalism degree and having done both radio and TV sportscasts, I can honestly say that Cynthia Cooper is one of the worst announcers I have ever heard. She babbles, can not get her thoughts out clearly, and is simply really uncomfortable in front of a camera or mic. I left the job because there was very little money in starting out, but even after 20 years of making video games, I could still come out with more knowledgeable comments than Cooper. Honestly, this has to be a leak in order to get fan reaction, in order to make an informed decision. Something like this deserves a poll, at least in a poll it is just simple math and not people making a lot of jokes and silly statements. We thougth Lisa Malosky was mediocre, then we saw Cooper and realized that Lisa was on the higher end of mediocre. Hey, what is Hannah Storm doing these days? Please, get someone with some credibility, and broadcasting skills that can actually articulate to your audience. Cynthia is NOT it ! DD
I log in very often, but don't chime as much as I shouldGgoing in the direction of Dakota, both of my college roomates were RTV graduates, one is in LA and one is broadcasting arena football, hell I even filled in for the college volleyball broadcasts on a couple occasions, which isn't say much at all. Listening to Cooper is UNBEARABLE and something HAS to be done to prevent another season of her stumbling and lack of clear thoughts.
ya'll listenin to wut tim is sayin?? he said cooper is not the answer to color commentatin the games......how many times does he have to say it....she'll be there at halftime....get the hell over it.....
Sonique, Why should we believe a Rockets employee? He may very well be telling the truth, or, he may be towing the company line. I appreciate his comments but I take them with a grain of salt, whearas Clutch does this for free, and has no one that he answers to....whom would you believe? DD
didnt our friend Tim say in another thread that this was a crazy rumor? if its not, im sure glad that i dont live in houston right now, gosh.
Have you heard her do color commentary or just halftime/postgame shows? even if this were true you guys are all seriously overreacting.
Tim, Don't know if you are still reading this thread but I again want to thank you. As a 50 year old Rocket fan, (I have supported the team since they got here) I come to the BBS for as much info as I can glean on the team and I enjoy posting my opinions. I thank you for coming on this forum and I thank you for speaking to fans. There is nothing I want more than for our franchise to be the best. I wish we could have Calvin, I love the guy's work. He is funny and insightful. Coop wouldn't be as good as Calvin and I would put Matt Bullard ahead of her also. But having said that I wouldn't blow up if she was doing the color commentary. Bill Worrell and Calvin had that super chemistry. The best part of this sight is the inside info that gets in here from time to time. When you are a passionate fan you just love to find out what is happening with your team. So Tim, thanks again for coming in with here, now who are we seriously considering at the moment for our starting PG and back up center. OK- don't know, can't say. Well, how about giving us some insight from things coming up on the marketing side. Cheers
