Tim, you cant take this so personally, man. I thought you would actually understand, w/ being the Marketing President and all, and dealing w/ so many different issues. And this is a forum where you can actually get lots of opinions and ideas from different varieties of fans, (some more immature than otheres), yet, all Rocket fans. And in this case, most people are of the opinion that Cooper is just not good. I am glad that you say that she doesnt have the job, but I dont think there is any reason for people to stop criticizing how terrible she has been so far.....
Bullard should get the job. Tim, I have to turn the volume down on Coop during halftime. SHE IS HORRIBLE. It makes me cringe. Matt has such a great history with the Rockets. The job should be his. He is way more professional. This is ridiculous. I will be another who listens to the radio during tv games this year if this really happens. What are y'all thinking?
I agree with Tim, Coop has improved over time. You guys apparently had not watched the Comets's games. Try it with an open mind. You might be surprise. Coop is doing all right there.
Well according to his posts they were not thinking about hiring Cooper for the color job. He said this is a false rumor.
NO! NO! NO! I'll accept Juwan as our PF! Don't punish us! Cooper was the voice the destroyed the Martians in Mars Attacks!
I agree some people have gotten out of hand with their comments here but I almost understand them, because despite the fact that I'm a big Cynthia Cooper fan, I still found myself incredibly relieved to see you say the Rockets are not currently considering her for that position. I love her on the court but it's murder watching her at half time. I love the idea of her working within the Rockets organization but there has to be something she's more qualified for. Hell, make her the first female assistant coach. (or was she a terrible coach in Phoenix?). I'd love to see Lisa Malosky back at half time.
For the halftime shows, on camera, Cooper is terrible. But like Tim said, doing game commentary might be different. What I liked about Calvin was that he had personality. Like when he'd say "He found him a gummi bear!" or "Put him in the popcorn machine!" I can see Coop doing that, but not Bullard. I don't know about you guys, but he bored me to death when he took over for Calvin.
For me, the Bill and Calvin team has always been one of the best parts of watching Rockets games. No matter who they get to replace him--Coop, Bull, or even John Frikkin' Madden--I'm really going to miss Calvin. I don't want to derail the conversation, but man, I think I'd take Calvin back under almost any circumstances, and I do mean any. Here's hoping it's only a Marv-Albert-esque-hiatus and he's back in the fold real soon.
No, don't worry. I don't take any of this personally. From a marketing perspective, all opinions are true -- you take the good and the bad equally and try to get an honest opinion of how people feel about something. That's the only way to do it. My point was that if people are posting with the idea that they want their thoughts to be heard, that they should frame their thoughts in a as credible a way as possible. There's a group dynamic that goes on here, or in focus groups for that matter. I read through these boards the same way I watch focus groups -- I try and take in everybody's initial opinions (first reactions are important) and then I listen as they debate back and forth on particular issues (also important). But as soon as it looks like people are piling on just because it's fun to pile on (we've all done it, and it happens in every focus group I've ever watched), then I turn off to some extent. Because they're no longer reacting to the issue, they're just reacting to each other. I'm not suggesting people don't pile on. It's going to happen. Part of what this board does is give people a place to vent -- and that's needed. And if it gets yucks, well, that's part of what goes on in BBSes anyway. It's part of the entertainment. But when it comes to issues where I make decisions based on fan feedback, realize I pay a lot more attention to the posts that give a good critique of the issue than I do to the posts where folks are just piling on and trying to play to the crowd. Tim
Anybody that has any experience with BBS's knows that they can be populated, even dominated by immaturity. The anoymous nature of the posts means there is no need to temper outlandish statements. ClutchFans is far better than most BBS's though and in between the Coop is Poop's I think there is a pretty solid concesus that Cynthia Cooper is not deemed to be a skillfull broadcaster. I'm glad Clutch got this one wrong (Or was he just a pawn in a trial ballon?) So Tim, filter out the frivilous, but this is a credible guage of the opinions of Rockets fans. Rocket fans, not Comet fans. Sorry but I'd rather scrape my nails on a chalkboard then watch the WNBA.
I am an avid sometimes rabid rockets fan. I have always watched pregame halftime and post game shows. This last year I found myself turning the channels during the half game show because of the broadcasting team. I didn't want them in my living room. I can't put my finger on what bothers me so about Cynthia Cooper's work, But I'm able to use my fingers with the remote. And I do.
Clutch is way too good at this to ever be a pawn of the Rockets or anyone else. C'mon, you should've figure that out by now. Tim
Good points. On this particular point, however, I was defending others because it is a matter of actual game time of our beloved Rockets. Whenever something effects the actual game time, people will treat it as a big deal.
OK, this is probably useless, but the next person who posts "NOOOOOO WORST DECISION EVAH!!!11!!!!!" without reading the thread should be forced to get into an auto accident with Karl Malone w/o insurance and then be sentenced to be his butler.
I have a question. If I were to get NBA league pass instead, would I be able to watch rockets games in higher transmission quality..and i guess now another benefit would be not having to listen to CC?
I dont normally like to post for no other reason than to agree with someone.......but what you just said goes double for me. Calvin is like a member of the family to me....when I think Rockets, I think Rudy, Dream and Calvin....as long as he doesnt have to serve time....I would welcome him back to the booth with open arms...no reservations... I think alot of fans feel the same....so I ask the Rockets brass to keep that in mind when the time comes to make a decision over his future with the organization......
Can we hire Walton? He's so funny. My favorite is when he mentioned Robert Horry with Michael Jordan as top clutch players of all time.
