Official and rare diatribe. this is a complete trav-sham-mockery.

If we were supposed to be a class organization, this just killed it. I would trade our first round draft pick right now to get someone other than Cooper. I would throw in the Trade Exception. Having Cooper on playbyplay may hurt our chances of making the playoffs. Bill Worrell may commit suicide. Seriously.

I don't know what Cooper's IQ is, what her basketball knowledge is, what her general intelligence is, what her wisdom is. Why? Because she is incapable of speaking english, for even brief intervals. Frankly, she cannot perform the simple task of completing a sentence without inserting trite space fillers, or trailing off into incomprehensible jibberish that can only be described as Cooperisms. I don't know what her background is or what level of education she has. All I know is that she comes across as being completely stupid and uneducated. This royally pisses me off.

I do know that she will not only ruin the broadcasts, but she will also pollute the minds of young fans . . . that the Rox are trying to target. Singlehandedly, Cooper will make the youth of Houston dumber, less articulate and annoying. We might as well hire a random rambling idiot from the Jerry Springer talk show circuit. At least there, we might have some hope of winning the lottery and getting someone that can speak english. With utmost sincerity, I think Cooper is one of the most inarticulate people that I have ever heard, in person, on the radio, on stage, on TV, in Houston, Texas, the US, Western Hemisphere, Earth, in the Milky Way.

And that's what confounds me. Cooper is a known quantity. She is known to be pathetic at every task/skill that is even remotely important to being on TV. I would rather that they put Radar, the dog on Channel 2 news, next to Bill Worrell. I would rather they put on Tim Tolbert, who I cannot stand. I would rather they hire a 3 year old that is just learning to talk. That would be more entertaining and certainly less horrific.

To say that I am pissed is a monumental understatement. This must be some kind of a marketing decision. I consider myself reasonably intelligent but I cannot figure it out. Holy crap. Do they think she is comprehensible? Perhaps they think that she is in some way popular or lovable?

This blows with a full set of braces.

That would be a major upgrade over Coop. I see no problem giving Gilbert whatever he wants.

    :D

I know the two things aren't in the same league, but, gut reaction, I'm as mad about this as I am happy about T-Mac.

    What a downer.

That's not something we're considering right now.

I don't know where the rumor came from ... Clutch, you may want to question your source on that one. Doesn't sound too reliable.

Plans are to bring Coop back for halftime. I know there are mixed opinions on that here. (I'm not saying 50/50. Mixed.) We feel she made significant improvements during the season, and that she's taken a big leap forward doing analyst work on the Comets televised games.

Calvin's situation is a lot more complicated, obviously. We hope for the best, but obviously I'm not going to comment any more than that in this forum. It's far too sensitive an issue.

in my experience, if the public backlash is big enough, decisions like this can be changed. I intend to write the Rockets directly. Since this is a well respected and observed fan website, we need to start a petition. I will start a new thread right away to serve as that petition.

I am the least active (politically or otherwise) person in the world. But this has set me off.

Tim, you have made my day, but I'm going to start my thread/petition anyway, just in case there's any grain of truth to the rumor. This just cannot happen.

I already tune out during halftime. I may decide not to watch the games at all.

Glad to see the rumor being pointed out as false, but I didn't understand this point Clutch.

Why would Fox Sports Net be punished by more Cooper? Aren't the Rockets still on TV51 all year? I thought they severed all ties with Fox Sports after the 2001-02 season.

    Seriously... I'd take that.

But, here's a valid suggestion - since Kenny Smith still makes his home in Houston (working one night of the week in Atlanta), and if he's willing to do the workload, try to hire him to be the color commentator.

Then, if you have to have Coop for the one Friday night game a week, so be it (shudder)...

(Note: several of the other ESPN/TNT broadcasters have jobs with other teams, so this would not be out of the ordinary.... Czar with the Heat, Elliot with the Spurs)

How about bailing Vernon out of the slammer and giving him the mic?

Vernon was always a passionate speaker/leader and champion!

    FREE VERNON!

finally, we agree on something !!!!

I can now look forward to Howard exploding for 30 and 10 in his first Rocket game so you can turn ALL your anger to the commentators and not the players
