Even if this is a rumor, she still doesn't belong in front of the camera, ever. (aka halftime *cough*)
With the season just around the corner I'm sure the Rockets brass have put some thought to who is going to fill Calvin's purple shoes. Tim has gone on public record, unequivocally denying that the Rockets were ever remotely considering her as a replacement. This statement is irretractable, as no future spin will compensate for: That being said...what are the Rockets long term plans? Calvin's legal issues are going to go atl least well into the season and October will be here in the blink of an eye. Tim has stated what's not gonna happen...so what is? After reading this thread I asked around some of my peeps and frankly they corraborated this rumor more than extinguished it. Either way I could care less. I'd love the new listeners!
You people are sick. How would you feel if you got a promotion and everyone was not only upset, not only mad, but calling it the worst move in the history of the world. And you can see we have rocket and 610 employess on the board. You dont think she might be seeing this? Put yourself in her position. This is her job, this is what she does, and you just take time out of you busy day to destroy it. And please, she is not THAT bad, I have no problem listening to her. I mean if you want to talk about bad, Marv Albert and Doug Collins are the worst. They make Coop look like a genius. I still remember my 2 fav quotes Yeah, forget about the rockets throwing the ball around the whole 1st quater But anyway back to the point This is not that bad, sure you might not like it but theres no point in all this maddness. BTW, forget 610, thier about 3-4 sec ahead of TV so that wont work. I try when the games are not local.
Agent86, I hope she is reading this, and actually takes the time to improve her skills. If you take a job in the public limelight and you do a LOUSY job, you deserve the criticism. Coop was great as a Comet...Coop was HORRID as a broadcaster, and certainly makes me question the judgement of anyone who would promote her after a rotten first year. DD
I wouldn't say she was horrid. Comparing her to others she wasn't as good. She tried to transition from the court to the camera and it was very shakey. She seemed to scripted and not spontanous with useful insight. She could develop. I think she should try to relax more be herself and let it all hang out. (see Calvin Murphy) Just be Coop, be a little controversial. Say exactly what she is thinking from a BB players perspective. She will come across more natural and probably come up with something we want to hear.
"On this particular issue"? That was diplomatic. On what issue is this BBS not at the extreme negative end?
Maybe we can send Cooper to Orlando. So they will have Plastic Man and we will have the Invisible Woman. Go Fantastic Four Go!
Sure, because he agrees with you. This BBS is only negative about things that deserve it...and this one does... Coop should be fired, not promoted. DD
No, not really, more like below average, IMHO. Certainly not a professional level. Heck Calvin Murphy was not a traditional sportscaster, but at least he was good at articulating his point, be it about cookies or basketball. DD
In the midst of this firestorm, I just wanted to thank Tim for personally coming in here and facing the hostile fan reaction. Frankly, we're not much fun to talk to right now, and I imagine that a Vice President might have just a few other things to do besides entertaining a bunch of grumpy internet geeks. Thanks. Also, and I don't know if this has been addressed elsewhere, I wonder if it's bad etiquette to post threads that have *Tim* in the title. (Not in this thread, per se, but it happens a lot). We're lucky he drops by here at all, and I'm worried that "calling him out" is inappropriate and abuses our privileges. [face turning red] Suddenly, I feel like an annoying hall monitor. Sorry if that sounded preachy--just had to get it off my chest.
Exactly. Tim has stated that Coopers not being considered,so why not just take him at his word? If Cooper does indeed get the color job, then Tim would have zero or less credibility on this board. As Chance stated, there's no possible way for Tim to spin it to regain any credibility if Cooper is hired to do color. So if he's willing to put his credibility on the line, then I'll respect that and take what he says at face value.
Agreed, but I think calling the whole BBS, the most hardcore fans the team has, extremely negative was not a necessary thing to do for a Rockets representative, especially considering the fact that the person who runs the BBS puts a whole lot of work into this that ultimately benefits the Rockets. Sure, fans are critical sometimes, but I would say the average of opinions voiced here is far from "the extreme negative end".
That's a completely different issue than what I posted. All I was pointing out was that Tim has crossed a line on this issue...there's no going back. For whatever reason, if Cooper ends up doing color then that would be much, much worse than just a guy towing the company line. That would mean that he's actually spreading mis-information. If that turned out to be the case, then I would propose banning him from the board. That being said, I've got to believe that Tim is smart enough to know that something like that would never fly, so I'll believe what he says until it's proven untrue.
Tim spins. That is his job, he is a marketing guru..their job is to spin things in a positive manner. He has made an aggregious error in calling this board negative, it isn't. The board just cares for the team deeply. Big difference, there is negativity when needed, and also elation...this board is a microcosm of the Rockets fans in general. DD
Putting a spin on something is different than out and out lying. Framing something in the best possible light is fine. Lying isn't acceptible. I believe that Tim knows the difference.
This board is all about opinions. Alot is negative. Overall and at times extremely negative. Except when "splashes" happen. Then we are running across the see-saw to the other side. We can get pretty extremely positive at times. But only for a brief moment. This is all part of offseason madness. We whine and complain, argue and debate, until we tire of an issue that is pretty well worn into the ground. We've gravitated towards the negative also reeling from those championships. Hakeem's gone Rudy's gone Memories fading some Now we are trying our best to believe we are on the verge ... Hey I bet one more championship will turn us all into "Something Big" and positive. But for now, we wait on a PG and a Big Body, we're all negative and impatient as to the future. We will find someone tol bash if the team struggles under the weight of a tough month of November. I predict it will be JVG #1, Yao and Tmac #2- rest of the group #3. OK- that was stupid to even put it in writing. Let's hope we get us a little "splash" or a DocRocket thread soon to spell the negativity.
Tim was nice enough to post here. I will say that if someone called one of my employees a f.u. at their job (and in the manner in which it has been expressed here) I'd give them a lashing first and then find out the facts later. There really is no reason to personally attack Cynthia which many of you have done. I think it's cool that Tim stands up for one of his own. Anything less would have been very uncool. I like CC, but am generally not in favor of her replacing Air Bullard. I think it's more the fact that I really like Bull than that I have any particular dislike for CC.
