Come on, there are four questions: 1 - who gets moved to make room for AR? 2 - is there a second trade in the works? 3 - whose playing time would he take? 4 - whassup DM the GM that every big ever available is reportedly on your wish list? I like Randolph, a lousy NY fit ... who would have found Turiaf to be the key Knick piece in the Lee SnT?
Is are NY pick in 2012 ? #1 pick protected ? If that is right then i disagree with this .. we got patterson we got to many young players in the team we need veterans to guide these young fellas !
AR's perceived ability to play the 3, 4, and/or 5 is part of why teams 'lust' after him. Maybe he needs to play with the Maui Waui's under Nellie to give credence.
I totally agree that Randolph is worth a first round pick. Classic case of guy who doesn't get any playing time or isn't on the right team. That NEVER happens in the NBA...see Chandler, Gasol, Beasley, J. Oneal, etc. Stats as a rookie per 36 (as mentioned previously and rebuffed) : http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/r/randoan01.html, 15.9 pts, 11.6 rebs, 1.3 steals, 2.4 blocks (These could be somewhat inflated due to the high pace of GSW offense, also he fouls a lot but fixable as he's young) Yes, his shooting % sucks. It's due to bad shot selection. Can be fixed by GOOD COACHING. Needs to learn to score down low and not shoot jumpers. Do you think Nellie was telling him, "Slow down and get a good shot?" No way, GSW was in a quick-shot offense. Let's look at our needs with Yao possibly out... Center-Check (Randolph has the height but may need to bulk up) Shotblocker-Check, some article said 6th best in blocks per minute among PFs in rookie season All-Star Potential-Check, Can 15.9/11.6/2.4 make you an all-star? He's 21! You get him for cheap and he's exactly the type of player we should be shooting for because his value has not been recognized. Depends on where the pick is, though. We're looking at the 11th pick in the draft now. Is he worth that? I say yes, because we've seen numbers from him in the league. Previous #11 picks: Cole Aldrich, Terrence Williams, Jerryd Bayless, AC Law, JJ Redick, Fran Vasquez None of these players has all-star potential. I say that Randolph does. What clutchfans posters want in a trade: All-star abilities/talent Skill High Bball IQ Good Character A player with all of these traits will not be traded, usually. You have to give up some things to get a chance at value. With Randolph we settle for: Possible all-star talent, skill, and the IQ/Character questions remain to be seen (21 years old and I think these can be fixed with coaching/team fit).
if we are trading back ny's pick lol it ain't really a loss. we give up that pick n they use it to help get someone like melo... oh well... he is gonna end up there anyway. we at least getting something for it. Randolph is a 1st lottery pick type talent. I don't see why people are complaining. this is kinda like when people complained about Amare possibly joining the team before smh. some people on here don't know basketball or watch it.
To be clear...I'm open to the idea. I'm concerned about him being moved around so much so early in his career. But I get all the points you're making...and if they think he addresses the question of "who plays center" going forward, then it's worth a shot.
I'm having a hard time figuring out why NY isn't a good fit for him. Or the warriors. Both seem like better fits then our squad - but maybe that's been the problem all along, that his skills make him more of a matchup advantage in a half court set vs. fast pace. Still, I am in no way sold on Randolph. He doesn't strike me as a positive plus-minus guy, needs a ton of work, and probably still wants a huge contract. Yes, the Knicks are increasingly better. And picking up Melo would make them pretty good. But then there's lockout potential making the 2012 draft possibly stacked, there's Melo possibly going to and staying with the Nets, there's an Amare season ending injury potential, etc. To do this deal, needs to be clear it's the best offer you have AND you need to get something more from the Knicks - a further out future first or maybe two seconds or something n
Max, I agree with your view completely, but if they think Randolph adresses the center problem were in real trouble. the squads main weakness is defense. Randolph is a solid weak side shot blocker but is light years behind Chucky defensively. They need a clog the paint big. Randolph isn't it. Doesn't mean you don't trade for him bit does mean still more work to do. Randolph just becomes another "asset" potentially even allowing you to move Jordan in a separate package (maybe with AB and Bud) for something (what, I don't know).
Randolph + Azubuike (expiring contract and very close to returning from a knee injury - would take Bud's minutes) + Walker for Jeffries + Budinger + move the pick swap from 2011 to 12 and remove the 12 pick which would allow the Knicks to trade 11, 12, or whatever pick they wanted. Most likely the pick swap will be worthless this year. And if we move the swap to next year it will probably be worthless too but there is always a Knick injury hope. That would lower our roster salary by $1.5 million which would save the team $3 million overall. We'd have to cut someone, probably Ish. Jeffries and Budinger aren't taking us to the promise land so might as well save some money and see if there is not a Jordan Hill II in AR somewhere. Plus Azubuike has more upside even coming off an injury than Chase's at this point. Walker is just a throw in to salary match but not a bad throw in.
