Good question...there were a few more on the board who thought V-Span was the answer to all our prayers...

I think VSpan is much better than he has shown in NBA. Span has a strong body, a great drive, a great court vision, and plays like a warrior. The only knock is that he can not shoot and can not play JVG's standing-still style without turnovers.

VSpan in not an NBA starter, but he is still much better than Alston.

I have always liked his V-Span's potential, but I am a Rocket's fan first and foremost, the guy is gone, and I love Scola.

I have been a Scola fan for a long time, have been watching him hustle and remember thinking that if only we could get him to play with Franchise and Cat that he was exactly the type of hustling PF that the Rockets needed.

V-Span? I think he could have been good, and I think he is giving up too early, but ......honestly.......I could care less, he is not a Rocket anymore...

    Scola is......

Yes he was. While he wasn't anywhere near what you would consider an elite player, he was very good in JVG's system - he brought size and rebounding. It's important to note that he also had the ability to play backup center. Once he got traded, there was simply no one on the roster to take his place - witness the parade of one-dimensional guys that have played PF for the Rox in the last 4 years. Out of that trade JHo, Lue & Gaines were mere salary dumps for Orlando but they actually tried using Lue at the point and JHo at the 4. Of course it didn't work out and that left the Rox ill-equipped to compete against the better teams in the West. Chuck Hayes is the closest thing they have had at the position and that should tell you all that you need to know about how bad the situation has been here (no knock against Hayes as his lack of size hurts him more than it helps). That position has been crying for size and athleticism for 4 years now. That's why Morey's drafting of Landry baffled me so much because the guy I'd have targeted at 31 would have been Tiago Splitter who went to the Spurs. Landry looks like an improved version of Chuck Hayes to me and that's not going to cut it IMO. Of course, now that Scola is on board, they have finally fixed the starter problem at PF. There will be a big dropoff when Scola's off the floor but that's something that is true everywhere.

You now, it's kinda of funny. I go away for a few days and drop back in to see what folks are saying about Scola only to find that a JVG knife-fight had broken out...

    It's all JVG's fault!!! :)

The two most polarizing people in Rocket's history (as far as I can remember) are both gone from the Rockets ...JVG and V-Span.....

I am happy they are both gone......

    Back to topic !!

When is the Scola press conference?

It is up to the standards to define who is 'better'.

So far, VSpan achieved much more than Alston at only 25. Alston is still a no-name at age 31. Alston actually has negative value to his team. I hold my opinion that VSpan is better.

Of course, Alston earned much more money, if money is always an obsolute standard, then I agree, Alston is better.

I think Barkley and Pippen probably fit better into that category.

No, wait- scratch Pippen- everybody agreed he was a Kotex.

I disagree, they have both been proven to be quitters in the NBA.........

Scola looks MAGNIFICENT........I feel really good about this team......as long as Yao's shoulder holds up.
