Wow! Great percentage. I'm sure the great majority of his shots were in the paint, but could you give us an idea about how much of that was his mid-range game?
What is kind of crazy is that 60% is only 13th in the league! That would be tied for 2nd in the NBA. Last year's 64% is about unheard of for the NBA. This is a good indication of the differnet caliber of defense/defenders Scola will have to adapt to. Now I still love the move, and would rather pay Scola 10 mil for 3 years than Joe Smith more than that, but realistically he may struggle quite a bit. I still want another proven vet PF in the mix. PJ Brown for the rest of the MLE or trade expiring contracts for Donyell Marshall. Then let Scola, Hayes and this guy compete for the starters role and for minutes (I don't expect Landry to be serious competition this year even if signed--and I'd rather keep his rights and not sign him while keeping that spot for a vet).
I think we we could use another cheap, vet PF, too. Hayes and Scola are both pretty foul prone, and Scola figures to look lost at times, especially early in the season. Bring in a serviceable old guy for when things start to get embarassing or when both guys have a ton of fouls. Of course, we already have too many players under contract, so... uh. Well, good luck!
The thing is that most of those players shoot very little, and are mostly lay ups and dunks. Here you will see the average of attempted shots per game, next to the 2pts fg%. 1 Kakiouzis, Michalis (BAR) 2,84 66,42 % 2 Trias, Jordi (BAR) 2,71 65,12 % 3 Banic, Marko (BIL) 2,94 63,69 % 4 Nikolic, G. (EST) 2,75 62,41 % 5 Gasol, Marc (GIR) 3,73 62,12 % 6 Thompson, Kevin (PWM) 4,09 62,09 % 7 Splitter, Tiago (TAU) 4,17 62,05 % 8 Avdalovic, Vule (PAM) 2,35 61,86 % 9 Angulo, Lucio (ALI) 2,62 60,96 % 10 Cabezas, Carlos (UNI) 2,33 60,63 % 11 Doblas, David (GBC) 2,29 60,47 % 12 Santiago, Daniel (UNI) 3,83 60,13 % 13 Scola, Luis (TAU) 7,03 60,00 % 14 Marconato, Denis (BAR) 2,32 59,85 % 15 Femerling, Patrick (CSF) 3,26 59,68 % Scola shoots a lot more than the rest.
Rockets have either around 2M of the MLE left after Scola signs or 1.8M of LLE. I think they use Landry's draft rights as trade bait. http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showpost.php?p=3030497&postcount=971
Are you saying that Scola attempts only 7 shots a game? Considering he is supposed to be the best player in Europe, not to mention his team, that's ridiculously low.
We really don't know what he'll be able to do in the NBA. 7 shots per game?? He'll get far more shots with the Rocks. No doubt about it. And yes, he'll see much better defense. But he'll also be playing next to Yao and with McGrady. I am so looking forward to seeing just what this guy can do. He didn't get his reputation for nothing. Teams in the States have been salivating over getting him for years. This is going to be fun to watch. It'll all depend on the period of adjustment. Long or short? Since I'm now in full summer optimism mode, I'm betting on a short ajustment before he makes an impact. I'm going to bookmark this. By the break, we'll be going crazy over what this guy brings. In a good way.
he would have had to shoot 100%, plus some free throws to get to the 17 points per game he averaged in the last season. Sorry, I explained myself wrong.
Wait a minute, I just read the thread title....we traded V-Span for him?????? V- FRICKEN - SPAN? He better be good. DD
