I'm just wanting to give the new regime the benefit of the doubt. There's no reason not to do so. This is the first offseason that is on Morey and Morey alone. Bottom line, you voiced your displeasure about the other deals while not waiting until a game had been played yet you want people to temper their excitement about this deal until a game has been played. That's hypocrisy (well, basketball opinion hypocrisy, I don't want you to think I'm making any personal character assumptions here). Criticize away the past regime. That's fine with me...they made their fair share of mistakes. Hell, criticize this one if you want, but be fair about it. If you like this deal, you like this deal. Don't try to bring people down by saying they need to wait until November...unless you're willing to do the same with Brooks and James.
I've seen a lot of highlight clips of Scola now, and I've got to say that I like this one the best. It shows a glimpse of his creativity and basketball IQ, which I love. <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/8TZwmj2cLvw"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/8TZwmj2cLvw" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>
I hate to sound like a hippy here, but it's all good. So far this off-season the Rockets got over on a division rival, filled two positions of need, got rid of a useless malcontent, got an absolute burner at the point and have retained their best trading chips for future opportunities down the road. I thought Van Gundy should have been retained, but I have confidence that Adelman will do a good job. Morey has assembled a roster that has a nice combination of established superstars, veteran character guys, players with a chip on their shoulders and a couple of young players with potential. Who knows if it will all coalesce, but I feel more confident about the Rockets than I do in any other Houston sports team.
He has put his stamp on a franchise faster than and GM in Houston history, he has done all this in about 3 months....wow. And he is not done yet.......we have too many guards....got to think one or two will go, even for future picks...... DD
From what I gathered from the Spurs fan site, they wanted to bring Scola over to be TD's backup. They weren't going to pay big money(10M over 3 years) for a backup. Scola wasn't coming to the NBA as a backup. Our offer was the best the Spurs could get for Scola. They basically traded Butler for VSpan to keep from paying 2.5M to the 13th player in their rotation. That being said, they are PPPPPPOOOOOO'd PLENTY. You wouldn't believe what they're calling Dennis (SPY) Lindsey.
There's always one of these in the midst of great news. Let's at least wait a couple of days after such a tremendous upgrade to criticize the man who was integral in bringing him here. I was as disappointed as any person could be when I heard David Stern say "Aaron Brooks" on draft night, but after the acquisition of Landry and now Scola...I can't say such bad things about that draft night - especially if this was Morey's plan all along. In the end, it worked out great for us so I cannot complain or talk about a "lack of faith" in the front office when our roster looks so complete and ready for the new season.
Actually guys, I would like to ask a question. I am not sure whether this should be in a thread of its own; if so, can someone please kindly create a thread? If Scola was to join this year's NBA draft... this year's... at what pick do you guys think he would be taken? I think he would be at least in the top 10 picks. Thoughts please, people?
And again, I am not saying that I want others to temper their excitement only that I will be doing so. To do anything else would be rude and insensitive. You don't seem to accept that I'm really happy today to see everyone else happy. I don't want to rain on anyone's parade. I still don't like the draft but that's just me. Same for Mike James. This was a good deal. I have said so since last night during the summer league game. OK, show me where I'm being unfair here. I like the deal. I like seeing everyone happy. I chuckle at all the off-the-wall posts. I chuckle at the ground swell of Morey love especially at the silence from the previously vocal Morey haters. I LOL at the Spurs fan posts. Where have I tried to bring anybody down? Now I plan to wait to see how Scola plays next to Yao and Tmac but again, that's just me. It doesn't have to be your or anyone else's position. That's the beauty of Clutchfans - we can all believe in different things.
If Scola is 17 and never played that much. He might be in top 10. but he is 27, he has been a pro for 10 years........he is just a 2nd round pick like what Spurs are pricing him. NBA loves potential. NBA hates international achievements.
Understood. But I have to respectfully disagree with the part on him being priced as a second round pick. From what I have read, the Spurs had been trying to trade him for a first round pick, but no one took it up. I guess it could be because of his buyout.
Nope no double standard on my part - everyone is free to believe or feel what they want. I'm not mandating that anyone besides myself adopt a wait-and-see approach to the Scola trade. Some folks appear to have a problem with my not being on board with the drafting of Landry & Brooks and the James signing. I did not like those moves because to me they appear to be more of the same old same old stuff I've been seeing for years. James makes the PG spot better but not that much better. The Brooks and Landry draft just baffles me period. I can like the Scola deal while not liking those other moves by Morey because it makes sense to me. But nowhere have I told people to wait - I would advise it if asked but only if asked. And the last time I looked, nobody was asking me what to do.
SA fans have to be on a downer, man. Total bummer. For sure, it's far out for the Rocks, but those cats have to be flippin' out. Groked that they're left with the schwag, while we're groovin' with the real score, freakin' out that The Man turned out to have it goin' on. Looks straight as hell, but has to be cool. He's hip. Who would have thunk it. Morey's a righteous cat. Just a total rush. Like havin' a 714 popped in your mouth by a friend at Love Street, just before the Elevators.
I know! It's some of the funniest reading you'll ever see! I had to give up because I simply could wade through all of the bad spelling...
I wonder when we play them during the regular season, would Scola posterize his closest buddy Oberto? That would be something to watch.
Right on, man, right on. So true my man. Now we just need to get the Man to legalize hemp and we will truly groove... know what I mean man? Yea, we're all cool here man.
Haha, well they did win the nba title last month for the fourth time in 9 years, so they shouldnt be to down.
