He was crucified because people didn't have any knowledge of why he drafted brooks. They knew what they needed and brooks fit the bill, they needed another player other than mc grady who can break down the defense.Morey probably works better with pressure so let's keep it on him and get better and better, nobody needs to relax, let's get another piece to that puzzle becasue we trying to win right now, next season.

I feel I have an obligation to post on such a huge thread, haha.

So how much $$ do we have left to pick up a vet PF (Joe Smith?) or Stevie?

There is no way we get a potential starting PF for any cheaper than this.

He doesn't have to be Tim Duncan -- just a legitimate PF.

    We have Yao and McGrady.

I have a bad feeling about this trade, even though it seems to benefit us.

The Spurs management is VERY crafty and their decisions are often genius-like. Now I fear Vspan is going to become Tony Parker 2.0 while we end up with a bunch of bench bigs.

v-span is a great player with unlimited potential. it was a great trade for both sides b/c v just would not play for us. jvg ruined his appetite. anyways i think v talked with sa and agreed to play for them, he must have that is the only way this trade could happen. scola looks like a hooper!! i am pretty sure he will make it out for game 1

The Spurs plan for Vspan is to buy him out. That's why they wanted him, so they can get rid of him this year.

While you're probably right (and I'd be just fine with that), don't speak so fast. There is a reason why Morey said that Scola would "compete for a starting spot". The Rockets still have a number of low-salaried players that can be easily packaged in trades.

Steve Novak (~$660k, team option for '09)
Justin Reed (~$1.5M, player option for '09)
Kirk Snyder (~$2.4M, will be restricted free agent next summer)
Jackie Butler (~$2.35M, team option for '09)
Luther Head (~$1.6M, team option for '09)
John Lucas III (~$770k, partially guaranteed for '08, team option for '09)

I'm not even counting Bonzi Well's bargain deal (~$2.4M next season) or Bob Sura's contract ($3.8M but only partially guaranteed at $1M). I heard that Sura was officially retiring. I'd kind of prefer that he wait until the start of the regular season to make any announcement so that the Rockets can use him in a trade this summer.

Bottom line: there is still a chance (however small at this point) that the Rockets could trade for a veteran NBA power forward to compete with Scola for the starting spot.

Nah... everyone's said it a million times, this trade was all about the Spurs front office saving money. There's nothing wrong with what they did... they don't need a PF right now. But at the same time they really really hooked us up...! :)

I can't imagine they wanted to be that generous to a rival. But it does look good for us right now, hopefully we got a good deal.
