Thanks! I'm not so surprised there weren't more replies because it was on page 27. If people even make it to that point they're probably just skimming. I do appreciate your response because I was kind of proud of that post. :D

Well, I was hoping that Scola would be the PF that we have been looking for. We knew from the start that we were getting a star PF unless we got extremely lucky, but a guy like this would be perfect because he's a proven player. I don't understand why we wouldn't play him unless there was something wrong on Scola's end.

I trust clutch because I know he has inside info. I don't know how much of 790 is just speculation plus the fact that Morey used "next year" as opposed to "next season" in his quote. I think he is coming because we also know that Morey has already talked to Scola and Scola wants to be here.

You talked to Morey directly last night, Clutch? That's awesome! I've always thought that the Rockets should take better advantage of having the best fan site on the web. If Morey thinks it's worth his while to talk to you directly, that's one more way he's scoring big points with me.

When you combine payroll savings, Vassilis Spanoulis' virtually certain return to Europe and Houston's cash contributions, San Antonio saved an estimated $7 million by trading the draft rights to Argentine power forward Luis Scola and little-used Jackie Butler to Houston on Thursday.

The Spurs were hoping to send Scola out of their conference -- as part of a three-way trade with the Kings and Cavs that would have landed Scola and Bibby in Cleveland before collapsing Thursday -- but decided that the financial benefits were too significant to keep Scola away from the neighboring Rockets.

Not Sure if anyone has posted this from ESPN:

SAN ANTONIO -- The NBA champion San Antonio Spurs have acquired guard Vassilis Spanoulis from the Houston Rockets in exchange for center Jackie Butler and the draft rights to Luis Scola.

    Vassilis Spanoulis

    Spanoulis

The Rockets also are giving the Spurs a 2009 second-round draft pick and other considerations in the trade, the Spurs said in a news release late Thursday.

Spanoulis, who averaged 2.7 points and 0.9 assists in 31 games as a rookie last year, has said he didn't want to return to the Rockets because he was homesick and wanted to remain in his native Greece.

Butler played in 11 games for the Spurs last year. He averaged 3.7 points and 2 rebounds.

Rockets general manager Daryl Morey said he expects Scola to help his team immediately.

"He adds experience and toughness at a position of need on our roster and is an NBA-ready player with a very high basketball IQ," Morey said in a statement.

The San Antonio Express-News reported in its online edition that Spanoulis was expected to remain in Europe.

Spanoulis said in a telephone interview with Houston television station KRIV from Greece that the trade didn't change his mind.

"Nothing changes my mind. I still want to stay in Greece," he said.

yea ive watched some youtube highlights of him last night and im very impressed. his hustle + defense is on par w/ chuck hayes, but he's also a good offensive player. he'll be guaranteed big minutes so i think that's a good thing for scola, who wouldn't get a lot of mins in SA w/ duncan there.

the thing i'm afraid of is the 3mil buyout. i hope that can be done. this deal is pointless if he wont play on opening night. we desperately need scola for the PF position.

As I posted last night there's no way Morey makes this deal unless he's gotten some assurances that Scola will play THIS year. But I just heard 790 say on their ticker that he's not expected to play until next year so I am not sure what's going on.

I trust clutch, I don't know about morey. to me its a good deal regardless if the guy shows up just with butler. I think butler is a legitimate rotation player who was caught in a numbers game in ny and san antonio.

After knowing that the Rockets wanted Scola and acquired him from the Spurs, the Argentine told TAU president that he planned to play in Houston next season. For the next few hours his agents will contact the Rockets to figure out the details of his contract.

Is Scola that much a rebounder and defender? His rebound numbers are pretty low for a so-called best player in Europe.
