Certainly, I agree with this. I think we will sign him, he'll join the Rockets, and the buzz in the League will continue to be, "What in the HELL were the Spurs thinking??"

Thanks for the favor. You do have a hell of a front office, but they have made a mistake here and there. Barbosa and now Scola. Keep up the brave front. (but change your dentures. smacking is rather poor table manners) Hard to believe SA would do this deal with a division rival to get under the LT, but your owner must have been desperate. A drag for you. A coup for the Rockets, ala Mad Max.

Oh come on bitter Spurs fan take your pill and swallow it with a smile. You just made the Rockets a better team. Remember the scale was not very high at the PF spot and Scola should at least be an all around better PF than Hayes (No offense to Chuck who wins my awward for doing more with less talent and physical attributes than many NBA'ers).

Personally I think the Spurs needed a spot to add players and Vspan was the best deal on the table to make that happen. It also shows how little respect they have for the Rockets and don't see us as a threat next year. They our so focused on another championship run that they didn't think that this might be making us a legitimate challenger. This snake my come back to bite them next spring.

Get ready to be a lot less excited. 790 is reporting he won't be playing for the Rockets this coming season...but will the next.

If that's true, I'm a lot less excited about this deal. Lots less. And much less convinced he'll ever play here.

Agreed. This deal was mostly a salary dump of Butler who clearly didn't fit into their system so they could go after Ime Udako to back up Bowen. They had no room for Scola with Bonner showing he was a player. They don't expect Spanoulis to play either and will pay him off with the cash we send in the deal.

Well, I am certainly glad to see some happiness around here because this organization has done so much wrong for so long that it has sapped the joy out of being a fan. But yes, you are right about the Spurs being loaded with players they have stashed overseas. That's the type of situation I want the Rockets to be in someday. A lot of folks here are really overreacting to the outburst by a few of the Spurs' fans who are more angry about them trading with a division rival than the loss of Scola. I too am amused at their outrage because didn't their team just win its 4th championship? I think the Spurs know what they are doing. From all of the whining, you'd swear that we'd just picked up Tim Duncan for Spanoulis.

I don't think you are understanding the meaning. By next year I think he means next season. The next season is 2007 - 2008. We are currently in the off season.

that's not what the sportsflash indicated. on 790 they specifically said (within the past 10 minutes) that he wouldn't be in a rockets uniform for this coming season.

i don't know if they're right...it's just what they said.

they're talking about it RIGHT NOW. "can they get him into uniform this coming season?" is the question.

I hope Lopez is spreading his chron misinformation to 790 because we need Luis this year. Funny thing is I ate Greek food last night I guess it was a tribute to Span

i wonder how true that is, morey did say next year he does have one year left on his deal so it would make sense if it was the next season. which of course would leave me less excited too, but at least we do have butler who can help the team out. chances are morey would have probably have said something a bit more definitive if he was not here this upcoming season. i believe clutch posted earlier that he was told morey feels that they will have him in uniform this upcoming season.

i still believe he will be coming here to play in the nba...after 2005 it was the spurs not scola that was holding him back from coming to the nba

    yeah...lopez is nuts.

but in the ticker, the guy is saying they're trying to get him out of his deal...but that the idea that this guy is locked up for this coming season is questionable.

This seems to be an unlikely scenario. So, basically Scola wants to stay in Spain one more year to avoid paying the buyout? I mean, if the Rockets want a PF so badly, they will structure a better contract for him in that aspect. Yes, 2.5 mil buyout to be paid by Scola is huge. I guess it's just a bargaining ploy for Scola. If Scolar doesnt come over this year, I dont think he'll ever join the NBA at all.

Well, in the paper, Morey seemed pretty confident about getting him in a Rox Uni THIS year. Im going to take his quote over Lopez's...

You got it. They couldn't bring Scola over next year even if they wanted to because they think Splitter is a better player. They will be bringing him over next year. When Bonner stepped up and showed he could play this year, there was simply no room for Scola. Those Spurs crybabies also fail to take note of the fact that the Spurs have another good player stashed overseas and will use the roster spot opened up by the dumping of Butler to go after Ime Udako to backup Bowen.

Sounds like we are headed for a front loaded deal, $5 mill+ first year, followed by 2 more years around $3 mill per. ;)

I don't get it. If Scola wouldn't play for the Spurs with two of his countrymen to lure him over and 4 recent championships, why would he play for the Rockets?

What really worries me is that both Splitter and Scola end their contracts next year but Tau is going to try their best to lock at least one of them to another 5 year contract. I feel the Spurs knew it was going to be hard for the Rockets to get Scola for the upcoming season which made it easier for them to give his rights away.

Scola WANTED to play.. the spurs DIDNT WANT to pay extra for his buyout [which was about 15 mill.. cause scola had to pay it out of his own pocket.. and im sure he doesnt have that much.. which means the spurs would have to give him a bigger pay check to send him to SA]
