I think Butler is just a reserve to prepare for the eventual retirement of Deke. I don't expect him to play much this year.
Butler is anything but an atheletic freak. He has long arms, solid body, but isn't exactly your high-flyer type.
I can't tell you his actual height, but I have seen him play against Elton Brand who is 6'8'' barefoot and Scola is taller than him.
This trade is completely shocking-- especially after the V Span story last week. It looks too good to be true. Maybe Scola is not that good. I have to admit I have never seen him or Butler play. I don't expect much out of Butler, but it is good to take a chance on a young big man. Sooner or later we must catch a break. All good teams have had at least one lucky break. At the very least two big guys without giving up much of anything. I wonder if this has been discussed for awhile. Picking another guard with our first round pick looked so bad. It did make it easier to lose V Span.
Uh-huh... besides guys like me, who'd rather have a Euroleague MVP like Scola than a project who looks like a rich man's Malick Badiane. Mahinmi might be good eventually, but do you really think he'd come here next year and make as much impact as Scola? I doubt that. I, for one, couldn't care less about Ian Mahinmi right now.
Updated Chron article: http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/front/4964549.html The Spurs permitted the Rockets to talk with Scola, 27, in recent days and although contract negotiations were not permitted, Rockets general manager Daryl Morey was confident that Scola was ready to make the move to the NBA. ``We're planning to sign Luis,'' Morey said. ``He's excited to play in Houston. We expect to see him in a Rockets uniform next year. Luis is very motivated to come to the league and is very motivated to play with Yao and Tracy.'' ``The Spurs gave us permission to speak with him about three days ago and we had a long conversation. It was very positive on both ends.'' Teams are not permitted to make offers until the deal is complete, but the Rockets will likely have to offer between $3 million and $3.5 million for the first year. Morey would not discuss the parameters of the deal he has in mind.
From what i've seen, this guy is very Atheletic. not smart, but very atheletic. once elson and Adelman, do a bit of polishing, this guy ill turn into a diamond in the rough. this kid is a steal for us. butler alone is worth more then a cry baby overrrated sovlaki cry baby.
He only has one chance to do that and it's the pre-season game against Panathinaikos. Spanoulis's NBA career is over.
Just read the article.... http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/bk/bkn/4964549.html The Rox allready have a plan to sign him....
Awesome, if he has Luis Scola saying that he is going to play here, HELL YEAH! I'm gona go outside and run a mile at 10:30 at night just cause it makes me HAPPY
Don't look now, but landing the #1 pick the year Yao happened to come out, and then stealing McGrady from the Magic might've used up our luck for the next couple decades.
I think next year means the same as the next basketball season in this context, but I could be wrong.I hope we will get confirmation of this soon.
