Alston, Sura. Snyder, and Reed will be gone. Francis will be back. Yao, Scola, Battier, TMac, and Francis start Bonzi, and James will sub in at the back court, Deke and Hayes sub at the front court.
Not to mention, he called Jackie Butler a "guard" and they actually showed the same mis-spelled version of Spanoulis's last name...
That Jermaine O'Neal is a real idiot and a pathetic loser. Did you see how he made Scola fall and then stepped on him after he got blocked? Trashy way to behave. Hope Scola comes here and gets his revenge!!!!!!!!!!!
if vspan was the yankees and scola was the redsox and butler was lebron and next years 2nd round pick was dale jr and the cash consideration was michelle wie then maybe just maybe espn would report this
My God, I LOVE this move. Scola has always intrigued me. There's a reason the Spurs drafted him and maintained interest in the first place. Butler is athletic and mobile, and a capable backup center who can develop under Deke for a year, but not exactly the highest bball IQ. Still more of a project than consistent contributor, but adds depth, which is never a bad thing. I'm just glad Morey stuck to his guns and at least got something in return for V-Span, though this is more than I had ever hoped. Kudos, Morey. Nicely done.
1. The Spurs tried to sign Scola a couple years ago, and failed due to buyout issues, Oberto was the backup plan. 2. Oberto just got signed to a $10 million, 3 year deal. That's not much less than what Scola is expected to cost, if Feigan's info is right about a $3 to $3.5 million salary for the first year. Oberto's offer in Spain was 10 million Euro (13.7 million US Dollars) for 5 years. 3. "6'11'' PF every poster wants"? Speak for yourself. Many of us just want good players, whether it's 6'6'' Chuck Hayes or 7'1'' Darko Milicic. What has Mahinmi achieved so far in Europe?
i like this guy ALOT <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/UJAJohgRqvM"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/UJAJohgRqvM" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>
It says he is 6'9", but with all the predraft measurements concerning Landry, I tend to wonder how this was measured. I think the NBA is probably one of the few places that actually measures with players IN their shoes. Is it safe to say he is an 'NBA' 6'10"+ prototypical power forward?
Greece is beautiful. But obviously many Greeks have no problem of leaving Greece and come and make Houston their permanent home.
I dont think we understand the magnatitude of this deal. scola is a starter calibare player. he can easily be a 14 and 8 player. butler is the icing on the cacke. he is a atheletic freak. he gives our front court a atheletic beast. Adelman will have a easy time with those guys. scola is a white version of Webber.
So... where are the DaDakota, GATER, Rockets-R-US Chicke Little faction now? Now that Morey pulled off a trade with a big name player (which, BTW, I doubt that many people have watched much tape on, but gets excited due to the big name factor), is "Moneyball" still ruining the Rockets?
This was a good deal for both teams. Scola was making a lot of noise, wanting to either be signed or traded. He has a serious offer to make significant money on the table for the next 5 years. After that, he'll be pretty much worthless. I believe VSpan will eventually come back. If I read correctly, his contract is the Rockets, and he can't play for any other team in the NBA or Europe until he fulfills the contract. The Rockets can and were playing hardball with him, and expected him to eventually play. If he didn't, from what someone wrote here, he wouldn't count against our cap or roster, we wouldn't have to pay him, and whenever he decided to finally play, it would continue on from where it was interrupted. If the Rockets wanted to add him in trade, the other team could come to terms with him, and mutually renounce the contract, saving them a couple million, which is especially valuable, if someone is near luxury tax territory. So, if SAS plays hardball, they can stash him until he decides to play, not have to keep him on the roster, not have to pay him, not have him count against their cap. They traded away Butler, and saved another couple million there. They didn't have room for Scola on their roster. No one wanted to trade for him because of his contract, and without assurance he'd come over to play. This way, SAS got rid of a 2 mil contract, can use VSpan in the future, and got value from Scola, as well as negated bad PR for not signing him. The Rockets could have continued to play hardball, and I think VSpan would have come back, but the fans have hard feelings, and it would be very difficult for him to play here. I'm sure the Rockets were in contract with him about this. But, even though I don't believe this is our starting PF, he is someone who could be a part of the rotation as early as this year. We have another piece. He's not the rebounder, nor athletic, nor the defender against the elite PFs in the West, and he's another short guy, (yikes ... Kenny Thomas comparison) but he is a good passer, passionate, good shooter, and will be an asset to this team for depth. I don't think this was the steal of the summer, as some are making out, nor solves our PF situation, but it is a good use of the MLE, and I think it's a great deal for the Rockets. So, now let's see what kind of veteran we get at PF in trade, AND what we do or don't do with Steve Francis. If we pick up Francis, it does give us more pieces we can trade to get a good player, and definitely makes us a deeper, more athletic team.
