I won't call Battier a flopper. There's a fine line between taking charge and flopping but I guess we don't need a Master degree to distinguish the difference?
Well, Morey's been saying that he wasn't looking to spend the MLE on a FA PF because the class wasn't too strong, and would prefer to look for a PF via trade. But, I don't think he ever said he WOULDN'T spend the MLE. So, I'm thinking something along the lines of this deal has been percolating around "Big Blue" Morey's central processor for some time. We know at least 3 days, but maybe what, a week? Maybe even a bit more? Still, we got possibly something for basically nothing, which always makes me happy.
Great Trade. Surely We will get nothing if we don't make this deal. If we put us in the shoes of SPURS, they can't nothing except cleaning up a roster post (if SPAN ends his contract) But We Get Bulter. I bet He is much better than Heys
and the best part of all of this? the rockets ended up fleecing BOTH the mavs AND the spurs for scola... mavs send us V-Span for garbage, and we send V-Span as garbage to S.A. for SCOLA!!! im stoked. plus, extra stoked that this move came at the expense of the mavs n spurs.
http://www.myfoxhouston.com/myfox/p...n=5&locale=EN-US&layoutCode=TSTY&pageId=6.1.1 looks like spanoulis still intends to stay in greece...what a stubborn guy. greece must be an awesome place!
Scola wasn't going to do anything for the Spurs that Oberto does for them...and Oberto costs less. Plus they have other talents stashed overseas that are better than Scola. Like this guy Ian Mahinmi. He's a 6'11 athletic PF that every single poster in here wants. <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/NWyRr_fNJps"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/NWyRr_fNJps" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object> The Rockets are jumping for joy because we're desperate (don't get me wrong i love this deal.) But I bet the Spurs are amused by all this and aren't all that broken up about it.
We have hella talent this coming year if we sign Scola, not to mention I think they still have like 3 months to make more deals.. Yao/Butler/Mutombo? Scola/Hayes/Harris/Landry? Battier/Tmac/Novak/Harris Tmac/Bonzi/Snyder James/Brooks * Bonzi as our 6th man * If we sign Hayes back, I rather have Landry play in the NBDL for one year.. * Alston, Head, Sura, Reed for PF? SF? SG? PG?.. Barring injury, we look stack in every position
So what did Dennis Lindsey pull some sort of whacked out double-agent trickery and slicked the Spurs into this one. I know Scola is getting older now but you couldn't get more than a 2nd rounder and a guy who you'll release from in a few days?
Dude, whatever. Butler graded out high on the per minute/efficiency scale in 200506. In 2007 he couldn't get on the court (to put it in perspective, he played 25% of the time Spanoulis did last year) on a championship team. And if you think it's a salary dump in which the Spurs were dumping Butler. Butler has two years left on his deal with the second as a Team Option. So basically the spurs are saving almost nothing in terms of flexibility, save 2.7m in cash presuming SPanoulis does not have to be paid. I'm not where you get off on thinking the Rockets tossed the keys to the kingdom to Tsakalidis and are already ok to toss BUtler under the bus, but I guess there are all kinds.
James-Rafer-Brooks-Lucas-Francis? Bonzi-Kirk-Luther Tmac-Shane-Harris Luis-Chucky-Novak-Landry Yao-Butler-Deke Trade assets? Lucas?,Rafer?,Luther?,Battier?,Novak?Kirk? BTW, Will we have any money left to throw at Barnes or are we done in FA?
My favorite quote from the Spurs' board: Re: Luis Scola & Jackie Butler GONE?! The Rockets aspect is just salt on the wound. If this were say the Bobcats, we could say that the Spurs were doing Scola and Butler a favor and how they'll get to play and thrive over in the East. But instead, it's to the one franchise in the NBA who the Spurs have never gotten revenge on. The one franchise down the road who gave the Spurs two of their most bitter defeats in history. I still can't even begin to understand this.
