AND a few " hah atleast we have some roster spots open" so they dont have a psoitive reaction..more a negative-neutral one sign of a good trade i might say
Here's some Scola info I Googled up. I have no idea as to the publication date of these draft profiles... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ He remains a major scoring force within 16 feet from the basket. His low post game is a thing of beauty, where he shows impressive footwork and footspeed while an incredible knack to find the way to the basket. He also looked reliable with the mid-range jumper as usual, while he’s probably the best frontcourt player in Europe in terms of moving off the ball. However, he didn’t enjoy the same magical pick-and-roll connection with Pablo Prigioni that they had showed in the previous edition (leading Tau to a brilliant victory then), as his point guard teammate is not in the same terrific shape he enjoyed last year. Anyway, some punctual moments aside, Scola was almost unstoppable with the ball in his hands, and even was smart feeding his teammates when he was overdefended. He had 23 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals in the quarterfinal game against Caja San Fernando, but settled for 15 points and 5 rebounds in the semifinal against Real Madrid, suffering from foul trouble. At this point, it’s hard to predict if or when Scola will be able to play in the NBA. His high buyout, the apparent lack of interest in him that the San Antonio Spurs show lately and their own reluctance to sell his rights are a difficult equation to sort out. http://www.draftexpress.com/viewarticle.php?a=1534 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ NBA comparison: Kenny Thomas Strengths: Has great hands, and NBA upper body strength. Will not have the problems that other Euro players like Kirilenko and Gasol have been facing. Also, a good athlete with leaping ability and runs the floor pretty well for a big man. Used to playing high-level basketball at the age of 22. Played in the Euroleague Finals last year which was the highest level of club competition in Europe. Also, almost doubling his averages every year (last year: 8.8 ppg, this year: 16.4 PPG). Besides that, used to play in a big rotation which shows that he is not likely to have "staying on the court for longer minutes" syndromes. Has good ball handling skills for a big man. Can go coast to coast and finish it off with a dunk. Can spot a fellow big man from a variety of positions. Also, a good pick'n roll player. Can score by popping up from up to 15 ft, rolling down with control, find an open teammate both on the perimeter as well as down low. Very good at passing to big men, especially from high post to low post which will be beneficiary for zone offenses. Has the experience, the vision and the guts to select the correct pass. Knows how to score around the basket whether it be a fade away, a finger roll or a bank shot. Uses his body well not to get blocked. Also, contains a nice touch with a right hand jump hook. Weaknesses: Not versatile. Can only play one position, namely power forward and may be a little soft for the position. Probably will have difficulty in defending big PF's. Not possible for him to "steal" some minutes from either C nor SF as he is literally too small for one and too slow/small for the latter. Needs to improve rebounding skills. Good at crushing the boards when running from the wing but not nearly as effective from a stationary position. Must improve upon his 65% free throw shooting. http://www.nbadraft.net/profiles/luisscola.htm ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Luis Scola has played the past three seasons for Taugres Saski Basconia Vitoria in the Spanish League, where he was named the 1999-2000 Spanish League Rookie of the Year. He averaged nearly 16 points on 64.2-percent shooting this past season, while also grabbing 4.6 rebounds a game. Grew up with Ferrocarril Oeste Buenos Aires (Argentina) youth teams and made his debut with Ferrocaril Oeste during the 1995-96 season. Scola played there until the 1996-97 championship, before moving to Spain for the 1997-98 season when he was signed by Taugres Saski Basconia Vitoria. His international experience includes stints with Argentinean Under-22 National Team, where he averaged 18.9 points a game in 2001. Led the 2001 World Under-22 Championship in steals (2.4 spg.). Also played for gold-medal winning team at the 2000 Panamerican Under-22 Championship. Also participated in the 2000 South American Under-22 Championships, where he was named the MVP. Played for bronze-medal winning club at the 2001 World Under-22 Championships. As a member of the Argentinean Cadets National team, he was on the winning 1995 South American Cadets Championship squad and has been member of the Argentinean Junior National team. Played for 1996 South American Junior Championships. Positives: A low-post bruiser. He has the strength to bang in the paint and the athleticism to play in the league. Scola has great hands in the post and a pretty refined back to the basket game. A great passer out of the post. Can run the floor. Negatives: Scouts think Scola may be a lot closer to 6-foot-7. He doesn't have the speed the most NBA post players have, nor does he have a long-range jumper that would allow him to play small forward in the pros. Summary: Scola himself has said he doesn't feel he's ready for the NBA, which may scare some teams away from using their first-round pick on him. More likely he'll fall somewhere in the second round and a team will wait on him to develop. http://sports.espn.go.com/nbadraft/tracker/player?playerId=18336 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This is a great deal in terms of giving up a player that will not play, in exchange for 2 players that play at a position we need help at. But for the love of everything, can we get an athletic power forward that is at least 6'10, can play good-great defense (i.e. block a few shots next to Yao), and can hit the occasional jump shot? Goodness, gracious man. We continually get either 1. unathletic (Scola, Howard) or 2. undersized (Hayes, Landry) PFs. *sigh* We need a pitbull at the PF position and a Euro that has never played in the NBA will not fill that position at least at the moment.
It definitely looks like Luis Scola is coming over. AMAZING. After everyone has been down on Morey so far, he comes up huge with this one. Now, all I wish for is for us to trade for another 2/3 with size then sign Steve Francis and I could die a happy man.......after we win a couple titles though.
This is the best news I have heard in the last 2-3 months. If Morey pulls this one off it is a STEAL.
b****, b**** b****. Morey just found us two players can could platoon the PF position for us by sending them a player that is utterly useless. I commend Morey for actually turning nothing into something. If Scola can just average 14/8 that would be a Godsend. You want a tall athletic PF that can play defense? I'm pretty sure the Rockets still have Stromile Swift's number somewhere.
Wow, the Spurs board is furious about this deal. They sure use alot of profanity. This board is mild and moral compared to them, and their the champions!
Why don't you list all the PFs in the league that fit your criteria. You'll be surprised how short that list is.
If Scola ends up coming over and playing for Rockets, Spurs wold be getting Vernon Maxwelled once again.
LOL I"m loving it. Anything to Pimp the Spurs over!!! We basically got Scola for nothing and he is a very very good talent. Spurs were just trying to hold his rights and not letting him come to the NBA with an open spot on their roster. He was going to sign with Tau but now he's with us. Spurs got pimped!!! And I'm loving it!!
http://www.82games.com/0506/05NYK17D.HTM Jackie Butler's +/- with the Knicks, when he got significant minutes, was astronomical... He's not THAT great, but is a decent banger... if he gets his ass in shape, he could be useful in the future.
Thank Goodness we did not sign Darko Millic For the MLE... Morey is a GENIUS@! We get Luis Scola at a much cheaper discount...
i want to see someone do a photoshop job with Luis Scola in a rockets jersey good trade IMO even with a conditional 2nd rounder Scola should fit in Adelman's offensive scheme if he comes to play this season.
