My same feelings. They have been trying to replace Rafer for a couple of years and can't find the right guy. After all the talk Lowry needs to take over the starting spot. And, to me, this isn't as much about Lowry as it is Cook. Lowry is worth what he makes with potential, but the whole Cook piece of this trade just isn't flying any colors for me. and it appears that it basically to get some cap room next year. In the meantime, hopefully he can knock some 3's down for us ???? Maybe they had Mehmet Okur in mind with this pickup to get him away from Yao in the playoffs if we make it that far.
I think this trade could definitely benefit us in the future. Lowry is one of a handful of players that has the ability to get a triple-double. He really does remind me of a Bobby Sura type of player for some reason.
from all that i read about lowry he reminds me a lot of steve francis but not nearly as athletic or big... thats not a bad thing for the team
[Jason Friedman] Thoughts on the trade http://my.nba.com/thread.jspa?threadID=5800021137 Didn't see this posted to sorry if it was posted elsewhere. I think his view is spot on and he is definetly right about how the fans feel about AB and Rafer. So Rafer not being able to finish around the basket and the fact AB played better as a starter (with the starters). I overreacted too and still wish we could've kept Rafer but Lowry seems like a good prospect.
Ha ha Rafer is wearing Number 1 for Orlando. Tribute to T-Mac http://www.nba.com/media/magic/feature_alston22009.JPG
So with this trade it saves us about 600k this yr. So are we are still above the Luxury tax? If so, by how much?
Good read. We all know what Rafer can do for this team. Now, I really want to know what Brooks an Lowry can do.
when alston was here, i thought he was a let down to the team, but now tht he is gone i think we are going to miss those skip to my lou's and behing the back passes
Thanks, looks good, can't wait to see Rafer play. Really one of the few games I like to see play for another team I do not hate. The Magic have always had nice players and teams, but this one is special. Feels almost like the old Houston team with the inside-out game and Turkoglu and Lewis are great shooter and clutch too.
[Rockets.com] Changing guard (includes video of Lowry) http://www.nba.com/rockets/news/Changing_of_the_Guard_Trade_g-301714-34.html http://www.nba.com/media/rockets/lowryforweb.wmv Good read and nice interview with Kyle, seems like a down to earth guy
Good article....Love this from Shane... “My first thought of the trade was that it reminded me of a situation a few years back, when a very similar player to Aaron – and Kyle for that matter- was handed the keys to the offense and there was an uproar with everybody saying, ‘We’re handing the keys to the offense to this undersized point guard who’s really quick and a great scorer, but he can’t play defense, he can’t run a team.’ Well, I think you’d be pretty hard-pressed to find many people in San Antonio who question Gregg Popovich’s thinking now.” I hope Lowry though, starts to hang with Shane and learn how to be a pro and learn how Shane studies his opponent, Lowry might be a real good pickup for this team, just watch.
i'm a magic and rockets fan, so you can imagine how i have mixed emotions about recent events. just wanted to drop a line and say, alston will be playing tonight for the magic. he's wearing a temporary #36 jersey that doesn't even have a name on it. didn't see any recent posts saying he's playing and i think it was just announced locally, so i figured i'd post it. can't wait to see how he does in a different surrounding. i feel that he fits better w/ a team like the magic, but we'll see. since alston is playing, any word on lowry/cook playing? oh, and coming from a magic fan... cook is terrible, don't hold up hope for him (although i don't think most of you are). he can shoot the 3, but he has no heart. he has poor shot selection and shows no remorse for any of his actions. he came into training camp this year overweight after the magic expected him to work at getting in shape. lowry, on the other hand, will be great IMO. he has a lot of potential and he'll have his chance to develop more with the rest of the season. i don't think the trade is as bad as first thought by most rockets fans. anyway, i'm off to watch alston, later.
opportunity and trust are not two of the first thing he needs. how to pass the ball to Yao is the first thing for him to learn. This is a major thing for any PG who is going to play in this team right now. Brooks just proved he is not the guy, will Kyle do better let us see.
I'm excited about Cook too, a PF who can spread the floor, sounds great. Just watched the highlights of the win vs. Celtics and the guy has a great form, but we might as well kept Novak since this guy is out of shape and got fat. Funny how Tracy is out and we get a guy who came into training camp out of shape who showed some potential last year.
