Well why didn't they just take up Jameer Nelson's minutes and give them to Anthony johnson and JJ Redick? Obviously Alston's better than both those guys or else Orlando wouldn't have had to trade for him. Especially since they already got Tyronn Lue recently. And I do believe I've heard JJ Redick's name bandied about on this board at some point or other.
Wow! Out of any possible trade they decided to trade our starting point guard that has experience?? That sucks, i really liked Alston aka Skip to My Lou
If Brooks was playing better than Alston I would have been a lot happier with this trade... essentially trading a back up PG for a back up PG. Unfortunately, Brooks wasn't playing better than Alston.
The one positive is, Rick Adelman's offense doesn't require a traditional point guard. It requires guys who can cut and hit shots. With Tmac out, I think we will the Rockets really run his system, and if that doesn't work, we always have Yao, Scola, and Artest who can all post up. We don't have the luxury of having a guy being able to get to the rim at ease anymore (tmac), so now we have no choice but to run the system or go to one of our post options. Terry Porter and Mike Bibby were both shoot oriented point guards, and RA had the most success with them. The traditional point guard is not needed as badly, similar to the triangle Phil Jackson runs;he needed his point guards to be able to shoot and make quick cuts to the basket. I do think that the size is a problem height wise, but Lowry has some muscle on him, so Deron won't just knock him around all game. Brian Cook can hit a jumper, so if we need spacing, we could give him a shot, but I doubt he'll get much pt. Rafer is a good traditional point guard, and he'll work great with Dwight Howard, but he is 32 already and is going to make almost 10 million in the next 2 years. The Rockets traded him while he had some value, so I don't mind this trade too badly. I thought we could've gotten more for him, but with time running out, I don't see this as a completely horrible trade. But I don't know how good we will do in the playoffs now, unless Aaron Brooks can prove that he is worthy of being a starting point guard, even as small as he is. Hopefully, if we need to get a point guard, we can do it in free agency this summer.
I have a feeling that the Rockets will try and sign Damon Stoudamire now. We invited him to pre-season I believe and now that we have two inexperienced, young point guards we will bring in a veteran that can come in and play about 10 minutes every night.
Rafer's been playing like Kidd these days!!Whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy Now we don't have no chance to defend Deron's fat butt at all!! Please tell me deadline isn't over or sign Bonzi!!
We gave up too much to get him but everybody here is going to like what Lowry brings. He's a tough-as-nails, bulldog of a PG that gets to the line a lot and plays pesky defense. Sort of Derek Fisher-esque minus the three point range. Overall, i'm okay with the move. I think we gave up too much to get too little but i'll trust Morey's judgment in this matter. I'm optimistic it will work out.
Alston has a big ego. Getting rid of his ego will help improve the Rockets' chemistry and efficiency.
In the playoffs we are tougher at point and with Artest... that will pay off. Rafer will pull that muscle in his leg again watch... T-Mac out all that weak crap is gone. Now Yao needs to be tough and were straight.
It is not so much as getting Lowry as it is the Cook signing. What does that get us now? Maybe next year it has some value but now it appears you going to pay a guy 7 mill to play an hour or so worth of minutes this year and next? That is the part of the deal that doesn't make any sense whatsoever yet. I hope Morey can explain it soon.
hey we got both rafer and tmac on the front page of nba.com! thats something to be excited about right!?
