Today is a complete waste of my time at work. I don't know why I bother showing up at all. I can't get a damn thing done because of this trade deadline. ANYONE ELSE?
Memphis was included so we could get lowry and take in Cooks pretty big salary in return for giving up a former 1st rounder in Lowry and taking in salary they get a 1st round pick from Orlando Orlando obviously despreately needed a starting PG, and gave up a 1st rounder witha player to match Skip's Houston was was ready to let rafer Alston go probably convinced that Brooks is their future PG, and also we let go of his 4.5 mil. contract and only take 1.6 mil back, which is really good to hear. This move was based mostly on the future of Brooks rather than for Lowry, and we clear cap space as a bonus...but if we honestly do keep that scrub in Cook, we would probably waive him anyways...though, i do remember him hitting a game winning shot to beat the Rockets when he was with the lakers...
i wonder if Rafer knew he was on the trading block, the last month or so he's been more of an assist man than ever before....i know a lot of people say, well he was becoming what we always wanted him to be, but i think that was more Rafer trying to keep himself from being traded...i didn't see him staying that way... Also, the trade doesn't surprise me because Morey is all about numbers and efficiency and i've said this many times, in games where the team played well and lost by just a few points, it seemed like rafer was always 3 for 12 those games, we lost a lot of games just on his bad shooting performances. Sure other guys have bad games and cost us games too, but it seems like rafer was the only one who couldn't get it all together, it's like he hwad to wait until he got hot. In other words, like when you have a team meeting and say we've got to come out ready tomorrow, players focus more, practice, and a lot of times will shoot well just from that, rafer couldn't really do that, it's like it depended on whether there was a full moon or not, completely out of his control. And lowry isn't a bad player, don't look at his stats, he's had no continuity playing on a team that has like a billion point guards. Cook also can be a very solid pick up, he's a solid 3 point threat.
noooo....rafer was starting to play well and got double digit assist games when t-mac was out. He's also a pretty low turnover player and underrated defender and now it might be difficult to have to acclimate a new point guard with less then 30 games left in the season. I don't know what to feel about this, I thought lowry was worth giving up AB but not Rafer. Hopefully lowry can suprise us and play very well, hopefully improve his outside shot as well a little. Also cook really isn't that great either, just a solid outside shooter for a big man.
I hope I'm wrong but its seems like we got the doo doo end of the stick on this one. Not that it makes us dramatically worse, it just seems like a chemistry killer to trade your starting point guard in the middle of a tight playoff race. Maybe we did this just to keep Memphis from killing us three times a season.
Could this extra cash contribute to the possible $12.5 mil that we may have available next season if tmac doesn't play?
Marc Stein: The Knicks are not trading Nate Robinson to Sacramento. Now we know that for sure. After hearing from a couple of rival executives at the trade-deadline buzzer that the Kings did manage to convince the Knicks to part with their backcourt dynamo, we were just told by one source close to the process that Sacramento definitely was not able to land Robinson. The Kings offered Kenny Thomas to New York in exchange for Robinson and Jared Jeffries, banking on the idea that New York couldn't resist the opportunity to remove Jeffries' salary from its payroll, which would have cleared another $6.8 million off the books for the summer of 2010. But the Knicks, we're told, couldn't bear to part with the popular Krypto-Nate, who just dethroned Dwight Howard in this past weekend's dunk contest. I'm told Robinson is representing the Knicks as we speak ... taping an appearance with David Letterman that will air tonight.
No Id say this is it. Unless a proposed deal got in before 3(2 our time) then no deal is happening. This is our team going forward.
whats funny is, for all the 'insiders' and reporters locally and on the forum, ESPN was first to break the story.
I know but maybe they are waiting for league approval... I know wishful thinking. I'm just not thrilled w/ this trade...
