According to Aldridge Cook is going to the Grizz. Link E-mail RSS Feeds E-News Sign Up Add Widget The Dish: Magic nab Rockets' Alston in last-minute deal By David Aldridge, TNT analyst Posted Feb 19 2009 3:32PM Just before the deadline, a three-way deal was consummated between Orlando, Houston and Memphis that sent guard Rafer Alston to the Magic, guard Kyle Lowry from the Grizzlies to Houston and forward Brian Cook to the Grizzlies. Memphis is also getting a future first-round pick from Orlando as part of the deal. The move is big for the Magic, which has been reeling since the shoulder injury to starting point guard Jameer Nelson that is likely to keep him out the rest of the season. Alston has been a starter in Houston the past two seasons and brings toughness and defense most every night, but the Rockets believe that second-year guard Aaron Brooks is their point guard of the future and have been looking to move either Alston or Luther Head for the past few months.
what I dont understand is why a three way trade? why not just get some fillers from orlando and there 1st round?
sounds like a mitch hedburg skit...what do you think about frilly toothpicks, IM FOR EM! then you're in da club!
Rafer was a better player without TMac in the game but that had no effect on his 3 pt shooting. In fact, it should have been better with TMac in the game because TMac drove the lane more than Rafer. I like Lowry and his ability to drive in the lane but the Brian Cook part seems like a throw in so I don't count on much from him. Moray talked about positioning for moves next year and he may be a cog in that wheel. And, hope another deal will come down shortly.
Nope. Lowry is the twice the PG, a better shot, much stronger, almost as quick as AB, and can finish in traffic. Congratulations and good job, Morey.
So lets see the contracts coming off the books at end of the year: Rafer: $4 mil Head: $2 mil Artest: $7 mil Francis: $2 mil Mutombo: $1 mil Thats roughly 15 - 17 mil. Not to mention we'll have TMAC's 23 to play with. I'm not sure how much we'll be under the cap, but we should have a **** load of money to play with !!!
Did the Rockets get any 2009 picks out of this? For the short term, this year's playoffs, Magic got the best deal.
lowry may not be a bad pickup, but who the F*** is going to be our PG? If lowry can do it, then why didn't magic get him instead of alston? I see this trade a benefit to Magic as alston is great passer and played with a big man in the middle, so he would fit right at home in magic. is Brook our starting PG? he has the protential, but i am not sure if he is ready now. could there be another trade coming? brian cook? waive?
