You must have missed the part where I said, "Kirk is a little better." And besides, what good are Snyder's spectacular stats if he's in the doghouse, wasting away on the bench? Um, yeah, those "DNPs" are gonna look great on the box score. Hence, the attitude is a problem. Rolleyes x infinity for you.
Bogans couldnt make a layup buddy.....do you remember that? This offseason just got a better and you dont even realize. Seems like we will never see Wesley in a Rockets uniform again. That by itself is great. Only if we could move Juwan. Plus, we still have our MLE.
This is like buying enron stock after it filed for bankruptcy. Good job of buying low, really really low. Honestly, there's a reason why we got this guy so cheaply. The thing is, we need this type of player for the reasons stated, and this gives Snyder one last chance to perform and earn the next big paycheck. He'll have every incentive and plenty of opportunities to improve his value. Works for everyone. Let's just not confuse Snyder for a legit starting SG.
Oops. That's what I meant. Also, I've been saying since the draft that it was quite possible that Shane Battier (while definitely one of the Rockets' five best players) would not start for the Rockets. A likely scenario was that the Rockets would somehow get a tall, athletic SG to start, with McGrady starting at SF. Then, Battier could come off the bench and play multiple positions as the Sixth Man. Battier would be on the court in crunch-time regardless. His salary and how much the Rockets traded away to get him don't dictate whether he starts; it's about the lineup and rotation that will best help the team succeed. I had been thinking for awhile that the athletic starting SG would end up being DeShawn Stevenson (either with the $4.2M TPE or most of the MLE), but I am glad to hear that role was filled by the less expensive and similar type of player in Kirk Snyder. Plus, to essentially get him for the $1.6M TPE and the POSSIBLE risk of dropping down a few spots in the second round of the 2008 NBA Draft, I'm relatively pleased.
Don't yall think he will bring the fire that Sura did the season before last? I think this is a great pick up considering what we got him for. Oh btw did anyone know this was coming or even an option for that matter?
I agree it's a good pickup, especially for nothing, and Snyder has much more upside than Bogans. The other thing you have to factor in is that Bogans would not have played more than 15 minutes for us if we had been healthier in the backcourt, so you're looking at only 5/game in that scenario. Snyder can give us more, though I recognize this is just one very small step. And, while I like Ariza, that just doesn't seem like a good pickup in addition to Snyder. We have more pressing needs at the one and the post to fill with our remaining MLE and large TE. Ariza could only play the three for us and that doesn't seem necessary right now with both McGrady and Battier chewing up minutes at that spot.
This is such a great move. It in no way makes up for the previous move and lack there of but I am really excited about this. We get a promising young, athletic 2, which is a huge need, for cash considerations and our smaller TE. We couldn't have expected anymore from that TE.
We really need to grab Marcus Banks with the big TE and Jared Jefferies with the MLE. THEN we have some depth and lineup flexibility.
I like the deal too, but I just don't see Snyder replacing Battier in the rotation. Shane will either start at the four or the three, with McGrady at the two or the three. I even think Head plays ahead of Snyder, but what the new guy gives us is the ability to go bigger in the backcourt without needing T-Mac to do so. And I think that is the theme of the Rox so far this offseason: Versatility. Battier can play both forward spots and enables McGrady to defend the weaker wing (or even a weak four), James would have been able to start the offense out of the one or spot up out of the two, and Snyder enables McGrady to stat at the three when we need a longer defender at the two. I still think Jarred Jeffries would be the perfect addition to this mix, but not sure if we would take just a split of the MLE. He is about to sign the qualifying offer from the Wiz, so we are still in the market for a combo post player who can defend the five in uptempo games.
whoa, that is a good one. Hope this won't happen again at TC though... I like this move, especially for the value. It is like other Free after Rebate thing that you can actually find some use...
Snyder is significantly better than Bogans. As the roster stands now with Battier playing the 4, I see Snyder starting. I think the attitude problems are overblown. If you can play for Byron Scott, you can play for anybody (see JR Smith).
Agreed. Attitude remains a concern, but at the end of the day, it's like we got something for nothing. I'm shocked we somehow got a guard in here deserving of a least a spot in the rotation who isn't 6'3 or less.
I like how we got this guy for really nothing but I worry that he will be in Gumby's doghouse in no time sorta like Stro Swift. Then next season, I see us trading our lottery pick AND Snyder to the Hornets for "some role player".
I just saw the trade reported on the ESPN ticker. It said "Rockets acquire Kirk Synder from the Hornets for Cash and a conditional 2008 second-round pick". Conditional? What does that mean?
Thank you. I'm humbled by your praise, and I promise to try hard to have my best season ever this year. Okay, it *is* my picture, but I admit I stole that last line from Battier.
Maybe it means it depends on where it is in the 2nd round? That's funny that we'd be concerned about that, especially considering it is apparently not in next year's draft, but the next one.
