I think that the Snyder pickup is a positive acquisition because he is only 23 years old and has not had any substantial injuries....wether we like it or not the rockets need a combination of health, youth, and depth-snyder gives you all three. p.s.... we got him for nothing!
Never heard of this guy, but im tired of being down on the Rockets moves, so i'll give this guy the benefit of the doubt....that video helped a bit... WAR KIRK SNYDER!!
No RD, what you're reported is correct. IF you look at what's being said and what's being done, you are left with an inconsistency between actions and words. Deep down, I think they (Rox) know that they face a big talent disadvantage vis-a-vis the other teams in the West. They have to realize that given the current makeup of this team - that it can only go so far but if they were to come out and actually say that the TC next season would be even deader than it was during last season. No this offseason they are going to do the same things they have been doing for the past several years and go into the season hoping and paying that nothing happens to Yao or TMac because if that happens again then it's hello NBA Lotto for the 6th time in 8 years.
My problem isn't with venting here. I'm sure we've all done that at one time or another, but until he proposed that brilliant trade for Francis, I had seen him do absolutely nothing but vent his frustrations without offering any real argument as to why he was unhappy. I've seen you vent your frustrations with management countless times on this message board, but I've never had any problem with that because you always build a case for yourself. (whether I agree or disagree with your case is irrelevant) Further, if somebody disagrees with your views or questions them, you take time to respond and further explain your position. I'm not seeing that from this guy at all. He's just venting and making irrational claims. Hell, after my post you responded to I think there are no less than twenty posts pointing out how irrational and invalid his points have been. I'm thinking that points to the possibility that I'm not too far off base here. Incidentally, he still hasn't directly responded to Rserina's inquiries.
NBA is not MLB. You cant just aquire any player you want. WTH is a cheap spare part? Some guys are overpaid some are underpaid, thats just the way it goes in the league. If all our players were underpaid at some point we would be losing them anyway. The only teams that get more from their players than what they are paying them are teams that drafted their guys and have held onto them ie Bulls, Detroit. Even those teams are going to lose some of their players because they cannot pay them all once their rookie contracts are up. Not everyone on a team can be a perenial all star....
Yo - JMWILL - Take a powder dude. Dont' you realize the more aggravated you let yourself get over RD and his posts/counter-posts, and the more energy you put into it, the less you're getting back in return. I defend RD's passion and his basic premise but it's not worth you're time, nor that of anyone else to simply rip him repeatedly for the same argument others are making. In his perception, (and that's a key word here), RD believe's the ROX have already hyped Snyder as fitting into something grand, despite not seeing those words or the "championship" word in print or on tape... Many other's including myself have already said in this very thread, that if Snyder is the last of the 06 off season moves, then the ROX are in deep Ca-Ca!! I'd rather see you move on (with the rest of us) to explore what our next move should be, will be, is... than spend more time focusing on RD and his posts . Come on dude, have a good Sunday evening!!
Oh believe me, I'm done with RD. I was responding to Hillboy. Also, I wasn't ever angry. Annoyed, perhaps, but never angry.
You stated the right things but not relevant things. Financial planning is important for any team, but how much the owner wants to make and is profit > ring are the issues here. It's not about signing wrong/bad contracts, it's about the willingness to pony up for real talent at the loss of profit. Managing the cap and avoiding luxury tax for long term viability is an excuse for those owners who still make money even after being hit by some luxury tax. The posters are making a valid point, the Rockets have been cheap since they let Kenny and Posey go for free. Aside from buying star power, or giving the failed star prospects like Taylor/Cato big contracts, the Rockets haven't brought in an above average player who makes like 8 millions a year to compliment the core players. If the words about the Rockets trading Mike James because they are afraid to pay him big money later on are right, it's being cheap to jump the gun without even knowing how much James wants and if his performance in the upcoming year warrants a big pay day. I am not yet a believer of the Rockets cheapness, I lean towards this side and am keeping an eye on the mindset of the Rockets, it's an interesting topic. [QOUTE=prv1981]NBA is not MLB. WTH does being underpaid or overpaid has to do with finding cheap spare parts? When you have a tight budget and a big chunk of it is spent on two max players it's hard to go for impact players who are a bit expensive.
Cheap signifies inexpensive according to your post. When a player is overpaid he can still be unproductive so the term "cheap" has nothing to do with it. Since you claim that the Rockets have settled to aquiring "cheap spare parts" to surround Yao and TMac with, which player do you think is not a "cheap spare part" and can still be aquired by the Rockets?
IMO, And everything I'm about to say may have already been discussed here and there, but I'm going to try and bring it all together. We were already in a bad situation coming into the offseason even before the draft. Not a horrible one by any means, but one to cause a lot of concern. I think in the particular situation we were in, it forced management to sacrifice the potential of Gay for the ability and skill that Battier brings to the game. I don't think the Rox org is necessarily trying to be cheap, but they are trying to work with what they have and trying to make something out of this team before it becomes to late with Yao and Tmac. We do ride on a lot of if's during the offseason and into the tip off on opening night. If Yao and Tracy can be healthy, then definately we contend with anyone with players we have now. If we can find the right free agent combo and have some team chemistry, then we can be contenders. It's nice to say yes we can bring this person or that person here and everything will work out great. Fact of the matter is we already have 2 superstars on our team. Trying to add an individual that would like to have that status would hurt the team more I would think. Kind of like back when we made the ridiculous trade for Barkley and the aquisition of Pippen and so on. I think bringing in Kirk was a good move as far as contracts and skillset are concerned. Yes, Snyder is another "upside" kind of player, but I guess this being his third season, there must be something Rox believe can fit I think his attitude problem is less of a concern than some of you make it out to be. I also think we aren't even giving him or Battier a chance to prove what they can do which is fair to neither player. The fact of the matter is, we were looking for 5 of the first 7 pics to hopefully fall in our laps, well the organization was, and that didn't happen so the trade was made. It's easy for us to sit back and imagine all the things we could do to make this team better while we sit in our office cubicles at Inotech, but in the end, who's to say what move will pan out and who will be correct in their assumption? I've been reading these threads since 2000, when it was still clutchcity.net, and I feel many people have interesting and creative means to improve the performance of our beloved Rox. I feel sometimes we over-criticize the organization considering they are the only team in Houston who have brought us any feeling of dominance in recent memory if ever. And to me, the Comets don't count and the Longhorns are actually located in Austin. OH the Stros, well, that was close, but no cigars or champagne boys. I am probably the anti-Rocket Dynasty when it comes to posts, not to knock him by any means, but I have a more optimistic view when it comes to Houston sports. I have been dealing with the upsets being a Houston sports fan for many years, so maybe I have become complacent when it comes to the results. That does not mean I don't root my ass off when the Rox are sweeping for their second title, or suffer heartache when we blow a 35-17 lead in the game before the super bowl, or get swept ourselves in the World Series. The fact of the matter is, as a fan, you have to always believe beyond doubt that your team has a chance no matter what. As a true fan you live and die with your team, and you back them 100%. I'm sure the Rox will lose more fans if they fail to perform to the level of expectation brought on by the blockbuster TMac trade, but many of us real fans will go on watching and hope beyond hope that we can make things happen somehow, someway. We will stay on the bandwaggon because we never got off. Let's start believing that the Rox will be a contender this year. Let's start believing that Yao and TMac will stay healthy the whole year. How bought we start being optimistic about the pick up of Battier and not down him due to his playoff record, it's a team game. We only need a couple more FA pickups and we are in this guys. BELIEVE 2006-07. GO ROCKETS!!!!
The 4.2M trade exemption might allow the Rockets to do some "Wink Wink" deals - e.g. Gooden isn't happy with what Cleveland is offering (not much more than the MLE?), so he can sign with the Rockets for the 4.2M trade exemption, with the promise of getting paid the following year, when the Rockets have his Birds right? Hence: 4.2M first year + 10M per year over 2 years = 24.2M over 3 years surely would be much higher than any other offers he will get? That is, if the Rockets are serious about trying to get better... which I believe they are...
Please explain to me the part of how the Cavs do us this favor. The fact is the only one year contract Gooden signs is with them. Next summer, if you think Gooden will settle for 2yrs/$20MM, I have a bridge in Brooklyn for sale very cheap. FYI: Gooden wants Nene money: $6yrs/$60MM.
First, welcome to the board. Fresh perspectives are always appreciated. However, please don't try to bring it all together. Paragraphs are nice -- they are your friend. They will get your epic read. You may have all the answers to the Rockets many problems but no one can -- or will -- read them unless somewhat graphically palatable.
I think we should also go after Demarr Johnson. He is a free agent and we need more depth at the 2 and 3. Johnson is 6'9, and long enough to play anywhere from 2-4, so he would definitely be an asset. He is also a good shooter and would bring some more youth and athleticism to the rox.
I like the move...We got him for nothing so I don't understand why some people don't like the move....At worst, he adds depth and he seems he has a real upside to him...I think we got a good pick up here
