and You hurt me with that one. I always recieve a swift kick whenever I see that. Right in the nads. It was for Battier but now it becomes for Thabeet. Which brought me back down to reality once again.

No. We traded away a pick that the Grizzlies used to select Gay, a raw rookie back then who's been overrated to this day. Plays 40 mpg to not even score 20 ppg, average scoring efficiency, doesn't create shots for others, and godawful at defense. Back then when this trade happened, Gay would've only been making this team's offense less efficient by taking shots away from T-Mac and Yao.

Gay has had 5 seasons already, and it's long past due that people stop treating him as some kind of superstar that this team missed out on. He's not a superstar, he's basically the prototypical "overrated" player according to Moneyball. Only he's paid superstar money now, something Morey would've never offered (but other GMs would have) after this guy's rookie contract expired.

Battier, on the other hand, was a veteran player acquired when the team was in "win now" mode. As opposed to Gay, he was highly efficient in limited possessions, and excellent on defense. Things that complemented Yao. Fact is that the Rockets DID get value from Battier. He was a key part of the Rockets when they were quite good, but just too unlucky with injuries to win it all.

It's all too easy to reduce someone's value down to nothing years after the fact, ignoring all they did do just because the team didn't win. You can do that to anybody.

Saying we traded Gay for Thabeet is like saying the Cavaliers missed a chance to trade their #1 pick for a superstar, walking away with nothing, just because LeBron left them 7 seasons later. You can't just ignore years of production way after the fact.

Battier is such a class-act, wish him and Ish the best.

The trade for Rudy Gay and Battier was good for both teams. We were able to use Battier immediately in the post season, while Rudy spent those years developing. It was a nice push an we actually went to the 2nd round with Battier.

Yeah but basically these guys are right. Battier gave us years of production and before his contract was up and before he started to massively decline or left us? He eventually gave us a draft pick, plus his years of production, plus Thabeet. I think now I would take Battier over Rudy Gay with all of that coming from him. Rudy Gay although I like him is essentially Kevin Martin. Battier amounted to these things with us

His playing time in his prime for years
    His contributions to team leadership
    His contributions to the community
    Haseem Thabeet
    Draft pick whoever it is

vs Rudy Gay now. Which makes that tradeoff even now if not favoring us.

There is only one way to turn this trade from a rotten apple to a golden apple. Ask Adelman to play Thabeet. This kid will forever be a project if you don't play him.

So Battier comes full circle. Its kinda like before when SF and Mike James came back to Houston. Only difference this time thou, is that there would be much of a chance that Battier will be sticking around longer with Gay in Memphis, than than when SF and MJ was with the Rockets.

I would say that they got the better part of the deal (slightly) :p

Thanks Battier and Ish! Wishing you the best ... I hope Thabeet is worth it! Man, what if DM was able to get Perkins? I was like ... when Boston traded him.
I also knew somehow Jeff Green was on the trading block. I guess OKC didn't wanted Green to stay in the West, because Green could have been our starting SF for years ... :(

I don't know how legit this source is, but it seems like the owner of the Grizzlies just referred to the head of his player personnel department in this article as the "head of our player personnel thing...." :)

when a player want to leave like lebron, the team call for loyalty and blame the behavier of betrayal, when the GM of the team trade its players, it's just a bussiness, so what can a player get from his layalty?I'm so sad that morey ruthlessly sent shane away, somehow, he was went to a team closer to the playoffs than rockets.wish him a brighter future.

I guarantee you all that Thabeet will be up to 5 blks a game by next season. A change of scenery usually makes a player hustle. There was also word before he was drafted that he really didn't want to go to Memphis. Being in Houston around real ex-star centers is going to rub off on him. Guaranteed! ;)

Also, remember, he hasn't been in the league 2 years yet. Same with J. Hill. Just think, we have 3 lottery bigs on the team now.

The thing I like most about this trade is it gives Terrence Williams actual minutes.

Old enough to know that a good offseason in Houston is a lot better than an offseason in Memphis. For a center. Plus, the guy has 1.5 years of experience already.

You can't tell me Houston can't work with him and develop him to be a consistent double double machine with more minutes.
