What is Sam's personality type as a coach? My memories of him are mainly as a young guy around the time of our championship runs. Is he more laidback or is more fiery and engaged?
I was for Sammie when we hired Silas. Now we need a HC with a proven pedigree. No more BS. We’ve endured McHale, JB, and Silas. Get back to Adleman, D’antoni tier.
Sam came into the league as a rookie but played like a 10 year vet, maybe he will show the same acumen for coaching. He is deserving of the opportunity, I wouldn't be upset if he got the job.
I always wonder after the 1st wave of interviews whether the 2nd wave means no one in the 1st wave impressed much or that they did like someone in the 1st wave, but had some 2nd wave guys they intended to interview regardless? Long way of saying, I wonder if the Rockets brass has been impressed by anyone yet? While I favor a coach with experience this time around, I would take a first timer with vision over an experienced someone who is stoic and predictable.
I'd take Sam. His personality seems like he's not afraid of telling guys when they're wrong. If you guys mention Mahmoud, how can Sam not be mentioned
I think it's just part of being able to say you did your due diligence. It's a pretty important decision for the course of the franchise.
Big fan of Sam's of course, he's been an assistant for 13 years now with some good teams. I'd like an experienced coach this time, but some team needs to give him a shot (not us right now). He likely just needs an opportunity to be an interim coach or something like Bickerstaff had, or be a College/Europe or G-league HC to gain a track record like Nurse.
1) stone is not gonna risk losing his own job down the road by hiring another untested candidate without a head coaching track record 2) stone is not gonna hire someone he can’t control
Here's a good article with some tidbits about Sam as a coach. https://heavy.com/sports/philadelphia-76ers/sam-cassell-jazz-rumors/ Lots of accolades for his ability to help young guards develop. This tweet was concerning though. Don't know if we need another "too much of a players coach". Really feeling like we need somebody to get everyone in line and hold them accountable
He should have been at the top of the list. If he doesn’t get an interview Stone needs to follow Silas out the door. That would prove he isn’t interested in what’s best for the team. I feel he wants to pick someone he can control.
Pretty much this But all coaches for most part only look as good as their seasoned talented roster can make them look, its few others like L Brown etc who could maximize what little talent they had If Tillman is hesitant about paying top dollar to those others then that would give Cassell the best chance to land the gig,, but Tilman should definitely use some of that finance for a top tier coach especially since he lost his bid for the Commanders Its time to belly up and upgrade the staff and overall roster
