Draft picks and cap space? It ain't sexy, but... Or wait a year and offer Signed PF + TRob for Love. It is The Morey Way.
Maybe. I think it's an interesting thought, tho - - the what comes next after (if, of course) there is a big f/a signing. Or two.
Giving a player $20 million a year that other players have to make up for sounds freaking ridiculous to me...
That'd be the only reason to give market value for a Milsap or JSmith... you only plan on keepin them til the next deadline - then they're getting shipped (along wih a younger prospect - DMo or TJones or TRob and a draft pick or two plus whatever else DM has to barter with)... for KLove or someone along that level... cause otherwise, I wouldn't want to be payin Milsap or JSmith or big Al what they're gonna be makin in years 3 and 4 of a new deal...
2014 free agent class > this summer. Rockets shouldnt waste $ this offseason on smith or milsap. Milsap played like sh** against us last name but STILL it wasnt enough to open the eyes of simpletons here
Jazzfans want to get rid of Millsap, that says all you want to know. When fans of the team who watch every game want a guy gone that usually is not a good sign.
We need a strong second option and Millsap isn't that guy. LMA is but I don't understand the talks of us getting him. Morey is good but I don't see how we can pull that off.
If we can't get Howard and Paul, I want to sign Millsap and trade for Varejao. Roll with Asik/Millsap/Varejao/Motie taking up all the big minutes. Send Cleveland TJones for Varejao. That's a championship quality big man rotation and all of them could be traded very easiy.
Maybe; but maybe Jazz fans perceive that his heart isn't in playing for the Jazz long-term? This usually doesn't endear a player with the fans. I'm just guessing on that. Sure, his numbers aren't eye-popping, but the Jazz have a delicate balancing act: win by playing the vets and grooming the youngsters.
Even so when you watch him what makes it seem like he's a player you over pay for? He's a good solid starter, but the problem is he's going to be the end of D-mo and Robinson here and at the same time going to take out a huge chunk of our salary cap.
Millsap is a good player, but I think he's only marginally better than Patterson imo, and will not warrant the money he will command. Still on the fence with Smith. Definitely not worth no where near the max.
Tell you the truth, I'd pay only so much, and, if I were Morey, I'd sign him as a means to an end. It's tough. Our 4's aren't ready for prime time but could be good. Jsmoove has a lot of skills, more so than Millsap, but is he where we want to spend? I'd be partial to stealing Iggy because we have no D but that's gonna cost $$$, too; and if Iggy, whither Parsons?
Milsap is a Marion type of sound complementary player, if used properly, say, under a real coach like Sloan or Poppovich. Josh Smith is JR Smith type of flashy, low bball-IQ player. If your goal is championship, you don't want a JSmiith type distraction on your team.
If I was a Jazz fan, I'd want Millsap gone too. He is the Kevin Martin/Luis Scola of Utah. Keeps you on the mediocrity treadmill when he's your best player.
Hey guys, I work for an agent so I have some connections to the Rockets front office. As far as I know, what the OP said is not true. The Rockets don't want to overpay for Millsap. They don't think Millsap is gonna take them back to being a contender. The Rockets want BOTH Smith and Dwight. I know this sounds crazy but they have a plan and is gonna execute it this summer. Morey is trying to do what the Celtics did when they traded for Allen and Garnett. Boston offered a "heavily protected" 1st round pick for Morris but Morey didn't like the pick and decided to ship Morris to Phoenix. The Rockets didn't want to trade Patterson in the middle of the playoff run but they loved Robinson's potential. They thought Robinson has a much higher ceiling.
I think the Rockets want BOTH CP3 and Dwight and that's the "recruiting" part that James Harden is doing.
