I think it's time we put a Daryl Morey statue in front of the Toyota Center.

I've been saying for MONTHS that Jeffries was underrated as a player and that the Rockets would be well-advised to agree to take him off the Knicks' hands in exchange for some significant additional assets, especially given the fact that I didn't think the Rockets ever had a chance to use their cap room for anything important anyway.

I just had no idea that Morey would be able to get THIS much out of New York.

Too bad we didn't GET a pick?!?! I'm just glad we didn't have to GIVE AWAY a pick to dump Cook.

I swear, people hear GROSSLY overvalue expiring contracts.

And, btw, unless the player with the expiring contract is particularly good/enticing (i.e., Tyrus Thomas), you're not going to get a draft pick for him. It will almost always be in exchange for a player for longer-term salary (i.e., Jared Jeffries). Otherwise, the team with the expiring contract usually ends up PAYING the other team to take him in order to avoid luxury tax.

Now swap our 2010 pick, NY's 2011 and NY's 2012 pick for rights to Ricky Rubio from Minny?

Also since we won't be able to afford Bosh at free agency let Scola go and sign David Lee?

    Aaron Brooks
    Kevin Martin
    Trevor Ariza
    David Lee
    Yao Ming

I may be dreaming, but it seems very possible.

oops wrong thread guys! but all in all i woke up at 3am this morning with a gut feeling that something had materialized and like some of us knew i saw the deal and was like "ehhh". i love kevin martin since he is pretty much reggie miller/richard hamilton lite with a bit more athleticism to add along but then we got THREEE first round picks(including jordan hill) also with a defensive minded jeffries sounds like a pretty sweet deal to me man... gotta love daryl morey!!

Yes, the Rockets got below the LUXURY TAX threshold (they're hopelessly over the salary cap). After factoring in the trade kicker on Jeffries's contract, rough estimate, I'd say the Rockets snuck under the threshold by about $1M-$1.5M or so.

Knicks have $30mil to spend this summer. If they can't sign LeBron, Wade or Bosh, why not just buy the Grizzlies?

Have you seen sensational quote Battier gave NBA.com's venerable Fran Blinebury about the Transaction Game that's now as big as game itself?

LOL maybe someone will bump up his "art of the deal" thread :p

Seriously though, anyone who doesn't like this trade doesn't know a rape deal when he sees one.

Sure losing Landry hurts...but there was no guarantee we could keep him anyway. And like I said before he was kinda' overrated, due to all the slams and the toughness and the awesome personality you forget his piss poor rebounding and subpar defense.

In exchange for that though we get Jordan Hill, picks, and K-Mart.This is definitely a win-win-WIN deal for all involved. I'm so giddy I can't stand it

Another part you may have overlooked is that with NY getting rid of Hughes and getting Tmac their short-term talent went up considerably. Tmac has been working out for several months now, I'm sure he got back a little of the explosiveness he lost. Hopefully he'll improve the Knicks enough to screw the Jazz's pick
