Rockets to acquire Kevin Martin (UPDATE: 3-Way Deal Reached)

I predict we will be getting Knicks #2 pick in 2011 and #6 pick in 2012. Yea Knicks suck...same year just like usual.

What are you talking about? I'm not assuming Kevin Durant will be in a Rockets uniform come 2011. I'm just saying that Houston will be in a position to go after him with Jeffries, Battier, and Yao coming off the books.

You're assuming LeBron is already packing for NY, and trying to base your Rocket hate on that assumption. On top of that you fail to acknowledge the fact that LeBron going to NY is a lot more complicated than saying, 'well NY is a basketball mecca'.

 

That's not really the key part, at least not to me.

The key part is we keep those picks one way or the other, they just may get postponed in a worst-case scenario.

I knew that being 0-82 doesn't guarantee you the top pick.

I didn't realize the picks from this deal could be deferred.

 

I thought deferred picks usually have protections too, at least for the first few deferments.

Is our pick protected? If we end up having top 5 in 2011 and Knicks do better. That will be really bad.
Same goes for the 2012 pick, late first round pick won't be that valuable.

Let's hope Knicks don't turn into another Boston and we don't suck.

OK...so this is it for the trade deadline. Great work Morey, probably staying up all night. Thought I heard something about another rotational player involved in trade talks, but I'm satisfied with all the picks. Com'on its NY's pick, we could use it for draft or just package it with players to get better players.
Morey is not all about math and stats, he just knows what to do.

True, but the protection on these picks is so little that the only place to go from there is unprotected.

We don't need any protection. If the Knicks get the #2 pick and the Rockets get the #3 pick or lower, we'll have the option to swap. If the Rockets have the #1 pick, we won't swap. It's that simple.

 

They will just give us assets so he leaves them alone.
