Not feeling or understanding why we'd let Landry go.

Should we have pressed harder for him?

While I like Kevin Martin's talent, his durability is my primary reason for not being a fan of this. I understand why Morey made the deal, but I am at the moment not a fan of this. I can just see having the same headache over our "stars" not playing due to injury.

I hate giving up Landry, too.

But, I'm a Rockets fan first. So, if this is the direction the team is going in, I will fall in line.

First of all Landry will be really missed and was a great player for the Rockets.

However, overall I think this is a fair trade and a win-win for both the Kings and Rockets (and anything involving Knicks will be gravy).

    - We should only treat T-Mac as an expiry (realistically only the Knicks treated TMac as slightly more than expiry), so we shouldn't think TMac = KMart and they robbed us with Landry.

    - Both Kings and Rockets got more balanced (trade position of strength for position of need) - Kings improve frontline (BTW, take a look, it is a great young flexible frontline with Hawes, Thompson, Landry, Cassipi, Greene and Nocioni) and reduce congestion at the 2 (Tyreke + KMart ain't working). Rockets get a sorely lacking star 2 that can hit 2, hit 3, drive and get to the FT line, and reduce frontline congestion (eventually one of Landry/Scola has to go, Scola due to age or perceived upside won't get us anywhere near a star 2 and will be cheaper to resign).

    - The Kings didn't ask us to take salary back which is fair, as this is an expiry for expiry deal (they will buy out TMac if no 3-way trade), so effectively it is a KMart <-> Landry swap with the salary difference our price paid to get KMart.

    - Yes KMart is weak defensively, but Landry is not known for his defensive positioning or rebounding either. Landry is a great 4th quarter scorer for us, but KMart should be decent and in fact his presence should help free up AB. Our last 5 mins scoring looks much better with an inside presence Yao, wing shooter Scola, AB/KMart for perimeter shot or drive/create than Yao/Landry clogging inside + AB/Battier/Ariza. More like the olds days with Hakeem.

    - Speaking of this, AB and Ariza should benefit from attention paid to KMart, and my guess is the AB/KMart duo will give opposing team a lot of headaches with both having a quick first step, can drive, shoot 3, pull up, hit FTs and reduce our need to play Battriza. Ariza will get a lot of pump fake and drive in for dunk opportunities alongside AB/KMart vs AB/Battier. Our offense will be infinitely less predictable than it is currently.

    - Of course, Landry will give the Kings a more efficient inside target than their current 4/5, with his 55% FG% vs no inside players for the kings above 48%.

    - I think the deal eventually paves the way for Battier to be traded next year (for inside help?), after DM sees whether Battier's positional defense will function properly again when we have a shot blocking presence in Yao. We have a solid 1-3 rotation of Brooks, Lowry, KMart, Ariza and Chase. Good flexibility in terms of scoring, 3-pt shooting, defense, slashing, getting to the line, catch-n-shoot, and pushing the tempo vs half-court.

    - Also, Yao/Scola should be more preferable than Yao/Landry, as Scola is the better positional defender, less prone to mistakes, and better defensive rebounder which should be more valued as with Yao, we need stronger defensive rebounding + less mistakes so we aren't putting Yao at risk with foul troubles.

It sucks to lose Landry, especially because it always felt like he was our player. A second round pick who played hard and gave us some badass dunks, especially in his rookie season. Going to miss him.

But seriously, we finally, finally have some guys around Yao who can shoot the freaking ball. Brooks/Martin/Ariza is a really solid looking 1-3 guys. It really is. I mean, I know Trevor can't shoot worth a damn, but Brooks and Martin is a really solid backcourt. Better than we've had in years. I really think this is going to work out. Things look really good going to the bench, too - Lowry / Budinger / Battier ? That's really solid guys. That's a really good 6 man rotation at the 1-3. The 4 is looking a bit weaker, but next year if we have Scola / Yao and Hayes / Andersen, things look a lot better.

I see this working very well. So long Carl.

That would really be awesome if Morey can get Iguodala...IMO Martin is the better scorer but Iguodala's more durable and better all around player

I am guessing the Kings wanted someone and he was going to be the hardest to resign out of him and Scola. Rockets hardballed him on the last contract it was going to be his turn after next year, he will have a decent payday.

I will miss Landry but I do think that people in Clutchfans are way too emotional about the players in the Rockets roster.

Assuming the 2-team deal, I think this was a fair trade (tipping the scale towards Rockets) because we didn't have to take on bad contracts.

It is possible that Landry's current performance to future cost ratio was too much for Morey not to pull the plug.

Scola can play big minutes and be had for a reasonable value in the future. Shooting guard was a need in this team.

For the people comparing, Martin to McGrady... they are nuts. Martin does not have the same ego as McGrady.

    As far as injuries go:

Nov 2009-hairline fracture of the LEFT wrist - wrist surgery
Nov 2008-Sprained left ankle which lead to swelling in the tendon behind his Achilles
Jan 2008-Thumb injury (played through it)
    Dec 2007-Strained right groin

None of these injuries seem like a recurring problem. These injuries could happen to any player in the league.

As far as his shooting percentage, I think with Martin will execute more efficiently in Adelman's style of play and will get better shots.

    I see lots of positives...

If we theoretically were to be able to get Iguodala and keep both Brooks and Lowry, you definitely would want to start Lowry. There would be enough scoring in the starting lineup so Lowry's playmaking and defense would become more valuable and a better fit.

Brooks would go to the Jamal Crawford/Jason Terry role as a scoring spark off the bench.

Having said that, I don't see anyway for us to get Iguodala at this point. The trade deadline is in a few hours and Philly has already stated they aren't interesting in moving him.
