Duncan is 6'11 and he looks to be taller than Garnett in this pic. Further proof can be seen in McGrady - he is no more than 6'7, and Garnett doesn't have more than 4 inches on him.
Too much... We need to find an under the radar guy. All we have to offer is a minimum deal. We need this year's JeVale McGee.
If Scola is our starting center, who backs him up? And who is the back up PF to Landry? I love Hayes, but do you want him playing 20 minutes every game? And what if one of those guys gets injured! We need a center. Even a centre would be ok.
On defense, he let JO score at will. On offense, he can not create his own shot. Hawks fans here do not like their center.
What exactly are you guys expecting for the MINIMUM? The worst possible players in the NBA make the MINIMUM. So we're getting one of the worst possible centers in the NBA no matter what. Besides, we're tanking anyways so who cares about how good we are next season.
Budinger ought to dethrone Tsakalidas if he makes the final roster. If it matters Barry saw more time than Tsakalidas.
You could get a young big like Robert Swift or Patrick O'Bryant for the minimum. Former first round picks and still very young. Bigs take a while to becoming NBA players and who knows you could get lucky like last year with Wafer.
If they could somehow a work a SnT for Pachulia and sign a guy like Robert Swift, I think that would be a success given the circumstances. That team could hover around .500 and if T-Mac comes back December-January they could maybe sneak into the playoffs. By then Yao could be back and who knows, could make a run with a rested Yao and T-Mac.
But you're taking a chance with those guys. With Yao out, whoever we get is going to start. ZaZa has proven he can be at least a 12/8 guy as a starter. At least you know what you're getting from him. O'Bryant has started 2 games in his career. Swift has gotten some chances to start but didn't impress. I mean, the guy was the 3rd string center for the freakin' Thunder! Yeah, it takes centers a little longer to develop, but neither of those guys has proven anything yet and I'd be really uncomfortable with either playing center for us. At least Zaza had done it before and you know what to expect.
He's not going to sign for the minimum, he's too good. What's your offer in a SnT? Hayes, Barry and a future pick, cash or possibly one of this years picks is about the best I can come up with without giving up Landry.
How about Cook instead? All I'm saying, is that if we're after a center to step into the starting lineup when Yao is out, it better damn well not be a player who can't even see regular playing time on a crappy team. If we're talking logistics and what it would take to get certain players, yeah it may not be worth going after Zaza depending on the price. But that doesn't make some of these other proposed options any more attractive.
