    we need to be able to get a tall point guard who doesnt care about scoring, but lives for everything else. can this guy be found in the draft? clearly not a the five spot, but i would prefer Hinrich there anyway because of his size.

    PG:Ford/Francis
    SG:Francis/Mobley
    SF:posey/Butler
    PF:Griffin/Taylor
    C: Yao/Cato

    More realistic if you are talking trade...
    Rice+Moochie+Morris for Ford+ Butler.
    Remember...Miami is way under the cap!!! :cool:

    I could see the Heat wanting to take on Rice's expiring contract so that their cap space will be able to carry over to next summer as well, but i can't see them giving up their top pick and their top rising star for overrated players lounging on huge contracts.

    I'd rather trade Cato and MoT for Brian Grant and a filler.

    I'd love to trade Cato, MoT, and Mobley for Eddie Jones and Brian Grant, but we wouldn't be able to afford 3 MAX players at a time. But then I wonder, how are we affording Steve, Cato, MoT, and Mobley next season? Isn't it the same thing if we make this trade? Those 2 MAX contracts both end in 2 years, so wouldn't it be better?

    Grant = 24M over 2 years
    Jones = 24M over 2 years

    Cato = Bout 24M over 3 years
    MoT = Bout 29M over 4 years
    Mobley = Bout 19M over 3 years

    So total, we have less money to pay. Also, none of the contracts we're trading are expiring, so we wouldn't really be ina different cap situation.

    Capologists, back me up. Wouldn't it actually be BETTER to take those 2 contracts with 2 years each on them? Am I way off with the Rocket contracts? I think Miami would actually go for that deal if we threw ina future first.

    Ming/Grant
    Grant/Griffin
    Boki/Rice (I'm assuming we won't be able to afford Posey)
    Jones/Hawkins or ANY non-guaranteed-contract pickup
    Francis/Moochie

    I think that team can go places. If we re-sign Posey, I think about 52 or 53 wins is very possible. Briant Grant and Eddie Jonesa re Van Gundy type players, and they're both great at defense. If Eddie Jones MIRACULOUSLY shoots more than Mobley, we're already taken MoT out of the equation, and also benched E Griff, which means more shtos are available. At this point we'd have to keep Rice to balance the books, and in place of that pick we send to Miami, we have tons of capspace in 2005.

    One more time, capologists, tell me where my theory goes wrong.

    My sources have both of those contracts ending in 4 years with Jones having a player option on the last two years of his contract.

    I've heared rumors that TJ isn't very strong and that's why he was tumbling down the draft(makes him more than likely possible at 5th).like rocketfan83 said this would be a defensive nightmare for any coach,even JVG!

    With this kind of attitude you are asking for a ban.

    Who were JVG's Knick point guards? Chris Childs and Charlie Ward. I think TJ could give either one of those guys a run for their money.

    I wouldn't mind the trade, BUT I'd rather have Grant + 5th pick.

    The size of the backcourt may not be as much of an issue as it seems to a lot of you. What do you do to a shorter player? Post up or shoot over the top. Well if the opposing team's PG is posting our guy up we have won half the battle as most PGs have no idea how to play in the post. As far as shooting over the top, who cares most of the better guards will get their shot off even if their defensive player is 6'4" - 6'5". TF and SF SHOULD be able to keep their man in front of them because of their qucikness advantage.

    Now, if we could get the Heat to throw in Butler for GR's cap space in some fashion then I would nominate CD for GM of the year.

    undersized backcourt?
    ARE YOU GUYS ON CRACK? *grin*

    NO WAY TJ FORD STARTS!!! No Way!
    A Rookie. . . in the HARDEST position to learn
    I doubt it.

    Backcourt = Eddie Jones and Steve Francis

    TJ FORD = MOOCHIE + some skillz

    Steve, Eddie,Posey.Eddie.Ming
    Bench - TJ FORD, Nachbar, Tmo, Cato, Collier? - Maddox and ??

    Tmo and Collier backing up the PF position
    Also . . look for the 3 guard line up of
    TJ, Steve and Eddie Jones sometimes

    I seriously doubt TJ would start . . .esp not next season

    Man, the Rockets arent running a very tight lipped organization. Everyone from ballboys to realtors area leaking personnel information to Joe Citizen.

    CD and Les need to be a little bit more tight lipped about things IMO. ;)

    I'm gonna get crucified for this, but Hinrich is a much, much better fit for us than T.J.

    You take Ford, and we've now got guys at two positions whose strengths and weaknesses are damned near the same...Both are small, will have trouble on D, especially if the other team posts thier guards up, dominate the ball, neither one is a a shooter, etc...

    We can't afford that, as much as the idea of a Texan (Ford) playing in Texas appeals to you Longhorns...

    But Hinrich...now there's an idea. He's much bigger, guarder 2's ( very effectively) all last year, is a shooter, and ran a more team oriented passing game, rathe than a 1 man dominates the ball and creates passing game. He, like Ford, is smart as hell on the court, and while he has a much lower chance of becoming a Jason Kidd like dominant control the offense point guard, he also has a lower degree of measurable weaknesses, and as such is probably a better bet to be a solid pro, which is all that we want out of the pg spot if Steve is moved to 2.

    In addition, as another poster said, we wouldn't have to give up Eddie to get him.

    i don't know if the guy even has a source. On another message board the other day there was a guy who came on there claiming to have inside sources then listed about 3 different trades that had been talked about by this board in fact for the past week to 2 weeks. So, his source must be really slow in getting out info.

    when someone comes in and claims to have an inside source i don't believe it until something they say comes true.

    i believe this is the same guy asking about our new uniforms. ask your source

    I hate to burst your bubble but TJ Ford is an UNTESTED ROOKIE. We need veterans, not more rookies to fill out our team. If anyone thinks that TJ will be our savior when he steps on to the floor, you are just kidding yourself. Dude will be good no doubt but is at least 3 years away. And the Rockets want to improve NOW.

    Just doesnt make sense according to Doc Rocket's earlier postings.
