What Bskball.com covered on the same topic..... GASOL STILL THE HYPE- Consider this, Pau Gasol has not worked out for any NBA teams. Most GM's have only seen tape of him. He has a hefty contract buyout that he is not obligated to pickup, yet 4 teams are after him in the draft with 3 likely to trigger a major trade to move up and grab him. Not bad. The battle for the draft pick that lands Gasol is still undecided. The Rockets are hot and heavy for him, the Celtics have had him at the top of their draft board all year. The Bulls have eyes on him, and the Nets seem interested too. So while the future of the Gasol remains undecided, it must be nice to be the hype, without even a workout. http://www.bskball.com/Rumors.htm ------------------ "Instinctly u recognize things, now take advantage of what u just recognized!".. I think the Rockets do like Gasol and White but might also be targeting Diop with the 7th pick. It's quite possible that they will get Radmanovic with the 13th pick for New Jersey and maybe Jefferson might fall to 18 although he probably will be gone by the 16th pick.Alternatively we might pick up Hunter at 18 for the Nets.I think that Rudy wants to retain KT,but if we have to give him up for the 7th pick, they just might do that. The Rockets may get Morris with the 23th pick. If we can't move up I would be happy if we got Radmanovic,Randolph or Bradley and either Ken Johnson or Hunter with our 3 picks, even though they probably won't keep more than one player if they fail to move up in the draft. ------------------
They avoided getting the 18th pick. That is the pick they would have gotten, and it was the worst possible pick they could have gotten. If this happens, they turned the 18th pick into the 10th by using a heavily prot It cost Detroit more than that. Remember that in exchange for helping the Pistons out, Orlado got a first round pick from Detroit. If I'm Detroit, and I've already invested a first round pick in this deal, I'm not going to settle for a #10 pick. I'd take my chances that Vancouver's pick will be higher than that next year. ------------------
I really hope Rudy is just putting up smoke screens because I would HATE to give up 2 or 3 1st rounders on a Euro guy that looks like he hasn't had a meal in a month. He may look good on tape, but he's playing other Euros. Thats a long way off from NBA competition. If we do move up, I'd take R. White, easily. IF we don't then I'm very happy with Jefferson. People say he can't shoot but he shot .500 from the field during the tournament, and he does't demand the ball. We have enough of that already(especially if we sign Webber) His D isn't that bad either. I'd like to see Gasol try and guard Cobi, Vince, or any other 3. ------------------
Uh, aelliot, um you included the mention of the pick (part of it at least) in your quote. There is nothing more Detroit gave up. The pick Detroit gave up was Orlando's via Toronto and had roughly 56 million different restrictions on it that ultimately ended with the possibility it became 2 second rounders if they hadn't delivered it by a certain time. It was a throw away pick the Magic gave to Toronto as a bone for taking McGrady from them that was then thrown to Detroit in the Jerome Williams/Corliss Williamson trade. The pick has negligable value. ------------------
drpepper - I think Kobe's a 2 & Fox is the 3. Carter plays 2 & 3. Gasol plays the 2,3,4, & 5 in Spain. He would be a tough matchup for most SF's because he has a post up game AND range AND can finish. (You need to read some of boville's first hand reports). I'm not totally convinced Gasol is the answer, but I won't be upset if the Rocks pick him. ------------------ GATER
With Issel in charge, anything is possible. You know, not having an off-season makes being a fan rather relaxing. Hell, I don't have to worry about us winning any games next year either. Like a full year of paid vacation! ------------------ Nuggets4 Re-Sign Sakic, Blake and Roy! Sell the Nuggets!!
Aren't the Nets already over the cap? Gasol, White, who cares? I'd be happy as hell to get either of 'em. Is Kenny,13, and 18 more attractive than 10 and 11? Maybe the players the Nets are targeting will be there at 13 and 18 and they wouldn't take as much of a cap hit. Also, if the Rockets do swing a deal with the Nets I would think they would draft for them. There wouldn't be a trade on draft night, but rather after the fact. The thing the nets are in dire need of is a bench, and 3 good picks and Kenny might be appealing to them. ------------------ [This message has been edited by tacoma park legend (edited June 12, 2001).]
MManal is right. It makes much more sense for the Warriors, rather than the Grizzlies, to trade down in the draft. I'm suspicious of all these rumors. ------------------ I'd rather be MC Hammer than Nine Inch Nails

Speaking of the Nuggets, if they end up with no draft picks, does anyone think we could work a trade with them for LaFrentz? Or, is he off limits? ------------------
