Drob wouldn't want to be on the bench so why would he come to houston?

I don't like David Robinson because of what he said in a press conference after the game 6 loss the LA Lakers. Coach Gregg Popovich came out and he said he thought the team didn't believe they could beat the lakers. When David Robinson came out a reporter asked him if that was true and instead of saying something like Yes we can beat them next game he came out and said "Can't argue with that.". After that I lost all respect I ever had of David Robinson.

BTW spurs.com has a poll "Who is the best center among this summer's free agents?"

    David Robinson 69%
    Dikembe Mutombo 21%
    Antonio Davis 6%
    Hakeem Olajuwon 1%
    Patrick Ewing 1%

69% of these Spurs fans actally think Robinson is currently better than Mutombo and Davis! What the heck? Sure we're all Olajuwon fans here, but we can honestly say that Hakeem is not better than Mutombo and Davis, ANYMORE...

I'm not sure if I heard correctly, but on George Michael's Sports Machine(out of NY), I think they just said that Dream would have to settle for the exception wherever he goes. So does that make his market value $4.5mil instead of the reported $6-7?

I think George Michael and the stupid sports machine are done from Washington, not New York.

And also, never ever listen to any rumors from that show. It is a relic like George michael. He is just an old fashined local sportscaster with about zero connections in today's espn-24hour sports universe.

Jump the shark comments on George Michaels's sports machine:

"The show was only aired nationally because not everybody could get ESPN's SportsCenter at that point. Good thing I soon got cable because I really didn't need George Michael (not of Wham! U.K. fame) showing my 20 minutes of Washington Redskins training camp in July! The weirdest thing about this was the elaborate studio with tons of fake looking reel-to-reel tape machines and oversized consoles & push buttons. After Mr. Michael set up the clip with typically meaningless banter, he'd press the button on "The Sports Machine" and whamm-o: here comes your clip. Just plain weird.

I totally agree on the big stupid buttons on the machine. Like we were all supposed to believe that George had a big magical machine that gave him whatever highlights he asked for. Please. I only believed it for a few weeks.

This show jumped the second I saw the cheap studio set. But then I realized that the cheap studio sets were originally used on the show, Marlo and the Magic Movie Machine, which aired on Saturday at like six in the morning in the mid-'70,s, when I was 6 and used to wake up then to begin watching hours upon hours of cartoons."

I really like Eddie Robinson's game and think he would be a great fit. Wait - this is the DRob thread, not the ERob thread. Or is the GRob thread? Or the CRob thread . . .

Does George Michael still use that giant Sports machine..you'd figure by now he would just have a sports remote or something...

I did not watch the show nor have I ever seen it. It was on in another room and I could hear him talking about FA's(I guess was the topic). So I cannot comment on whether or not he still has the machine. I did not mention it to get anyone's personal opinions of the guy or want any background info on him. I mentioned him as someone who is outside of the Houston market looking at the situation. Whether or not the guy has any sources does not mean that he cannot look at a situation and assess it. It's not as if he was proposeing everyone's beloved Cato + Williams + filler = (insert superstar) trade. What he mentioned was a reasonable scenario that has been brought up before. So, I was thinking that when everyone tries to figure out how much cap room the Rockets have, shouldn't they plug in the $4.5 figure instead of 6-7?

I have seen the show and I don't think the Sports Machine is sophisticated enough to handle NBA salary cap computations.

As for his source, he has this moron named Howard Eskin in a segment called "Rumorville" where he makes all kinds of asinine predictions that don't come true. Howard Eskin is a radio commentator/tv anchor from Philly, who has never been the most reliable source in the world, unless you believe that the Sixers are going to trade Raja Bell and Matt Geiger for Shaquille and Kobe.

He also got in trouble recently for claiming that the Miss America paegant was fixed, and also, a couple of years ago, this happened:

    PHILLY MURDER
By one account, Raymond Stumpf, 54, flew into a rage when he saw the dozen roses his wife, 47-year-old Marlene Stumpf, received from a man she met online, and that rage ended in her death from multiple stab wounds.

The man who sent the flowers was Philadelphia radio sports talk show host Howard Eskin. Eskin said his weeks-long e-mail correspondence with Marlene was not romantic in any way and that he sent the flowers just to brighten her day. He said she never mentioned to him that she was married and that she seemed very unhappy. He apparently never met her in person.

Marlene was found by her son, nearly decapitated, with three bloody knives beside her body. Raymond was treated for stab wounds that police say were self-inflicted. He was then charged with first degree murder.

It's interesting that the tragedy in this case happened after the virtual relationship crossed the line into the real world. Though this case only involves the internet indirectly, it's exactly the kind of thing that contributes to the growing popular media image of the internet as a risky adventure.
