I don't think DRob would be asking for any less money than Dream. If we were to sign Robinson, we would be in the exact same position in one to two years as we are this season: an aging center, with no decent alternative already on the team. Robinson is not kind of solution to our center problem. If we are going to sign one older center for 1 or 2 years at close to $10 mil (I seriously doubt Robinson would come cheaper than Dream), then it might as well be Olajuwon. The choice between Robinson and Dream is the same as David and Goliath...the difference is this is not a story folks, and Goliath wins. ------------------ Rockets need power forward. Mo near now. Go near Mo. You can Run from the bet, you can Rave at the bet...but you just can't hide.
A few things on David...in lieu of Webber(I'm still for grabbing CWebb).. If you play him at the 4 alongside Dream,I think he becomes more attractive. He can occasionally play the 5 giving Dream a blow. Also, his signing does probably free up the money to sign other/our own free agents. Robinson adds a defensive presence and another big man to attack the Lakers. Robinson and Dream most likely would come off the books about the same time creating more capspace later, while keeping us in contention now. Throw in that little riddle of Doc's talking about Sao...San Antonio... Listen,I know Dream has Robinson's jock nailed to the wall of his trophy room, but he might be a better option than first thought....so long as the contract isn't too long. ------------------ Everybody has a little bit of Watergate in em - Billy Graham
dc rock: spurever, do you think david robinson is better than hakeem olajuwon (overall career) ? Why even ask such a question? Hakeem is one of the greatest centers ever and Robinson does not even deserve to be considered as one of the top 50 players of all time. Spurever must be drinking some of that San Antonio water if he thinks that Robinson was a defensive force. The highlight of Robinson's defensive career was when Hakeem lit him up in Game 2. Lets not even mention the other 5 games... 10 years from now, the only time you will see Robinson on TV is when they rerun the old "Reading is fundamental" commercials.... Perhaps someone should let Robinson know that defense is fundamental too... ------------------ "Quote under construction"
Dude, i know olajuwon is better, i just wanted to hear from a spurs fan's point of view. Im not asking him so that I will know whos better , I'm simply asking for his opinion. ------------------ mgh 1924 - 2001 http://www.al-gore-2004.org/
hey i'd trade cato and walt for d-rob he could come off the bench and play with dream ------------------ "Wahooo"-homer I'm not only a fan but I'm also the bartender at clutchcity chat For the last time I'm not Tybrave!!!!!
I think D-rob is playing the Rockets, just like the Rockets are trying to play him. -D-rob wants to stay in SA but he wants big $$$ to do it. -Assuming we don't get C-webb, we want Dream but Dream wants the same big $$$. More than likely we will talk to D-rob for a contract 6-8 mil/year, which will let D-rob go back to the Spurs and get at least that and will allow us to say "Hey Dream we can get D-rob for $7 mil and you want 10? Come on buddy work with us" In the end Dream will come back to us for 6-8mil and D-rob will get his money from SA. But honestly (I don't think D-rob will come here) Dream honestly has had a better career, but the last 2 years I would rather have had D-rob. At his best he is no Dream, but he has been healthier as he has aged than Dream and he is still effective.
Rockets talking to Robinson. {Ring Ring} Rockets: "Hello, this is the Houston Rockets calling. We are interested in talking to David Robinson. Is he there please Robinson: "This is David Robinson." Rockets: "Hello David. We have some question marks at the five position this year." Robinson: "Yes." Rockets: "And it reminded us of the time Hakeem Olajuwon schooled you the year you won the MVP." Robinson: "I thought I defensed him pretty well." Rockets: "Why did you lay down for the Lakers this year?" Robinson: "I have no idea." Rockets: "Just wondering. Bye." Robinson: "Bye." {click} {ring ring} Reporter: "Hi David. Any teams calling?" Robinson: "Just the Rockets with their usual phone call." Reporter: "Thanks for the scoop." ------------------ Join the Chucky Brown Fan Club
I would love to have David Robinson here for three years! a. He is in great shape, and has maintained himself better than any of the other "old" centers. I see him as effective for at least three years. b. He is a solid citizen. Robinson would be a great influence on the younger Rockets. c. He will end his career about the same time the Rockets will be ready to contend for a title. In three years, it sure would be nice to have DRob's salary coming off the books, so the Rockets can add the "missing piece". d. There is no better alternative! Nazr, Marc Jackson, Cato, and Dream would not help the Rockets as much. Robinson brings everything we need right now. Shotblocking, leadership, a 15 foot jumper, rebounding, and a solid outlet pass are hard to find these days. I, for one, hope to see David Robinson in a Rockets uniform this year. pg- Steve, Moochie sg- Cat, Steve, Tmo sf- GMoney, Tmo, Langhi pf- Drob, KT c- Cato, Collier ------------------
the choice between david robinson and hakeem olajuwon - AT THIS POINT - is a no brainer: DAVID ROBINSON ALL DAY, EVERY DAY. sure, he's a b****. but at least he'll be on the court, and not on the IR. ------------------ here's a verse: hating this name is a full time job for me; shandon in the nba is highway robbery!
David Robinson is a b****???? I think he is one of the good guys in all of sports. He is one of the few athletes today who can be considered real role models. He served our country, and has a championship ring. I think maybe you need to reassess your priorities in determining who gets respect and who does not. ------------------
Hey,c'mon, that was a sweet alley oop pass wasn't it?.....silver platter all the way. ------------------ Everybody has a little bit of Watergate in em - Billy Graham
what does david serving our country have to do with his repeated b****like perfomances on the court? and he can credit that ring to tim duncan, thank you very much. that said, i'd take him over kelvin crapo. at least dave goes to work. he might lie down on the job, but at least he shows up! ------------------ here's a verse: hating this name is a full time job for me; shandon in the nba is highway robbery!
Oh yea, I see what you mean, its probably from all those defensive player of the year awards he won....oh, oops, wrong person...nevermind. ------------------
Word is Robinson's agent contacted the Rockets, not the other way around. Old School ------------------ I voted YES!
I'm one of the few Rocket fans that have respect for David Robinson (whether that is a good or bad thing I don't know), but to say that David Robinson isn't one of the Top 50 players ever is crazy. The guy is a former MVP, has awesome stats that matchup well with Dream (regular season), and has a world championship. Now David Robinson isn't close to being a better defender then Dream. Dream not only can guard guys straight up, he changes entire team's offenses. He's the greatest shotblocker ever, even though Mutombo will likely surpass him in total blocks, Dream will always be the better pure shotblocker. SO I would disagree that he is a better defender then Dream. I still think David Robinson is one of the top 5 centers in the NBA. ------------------ "Win if you can, lose if you must but always cheat!" - Jesse Ventura
right on! look let's get this straight. DRob is much preferable compared to signing up ELbows Malone. I say let's bring both DRob and Dream for $5 mil each. Forget Webber. Twin Towers 3. ------------------ Your best? Loser whine about thier best.
While David Robinson would be a great fit on this team and would provide the lockeroom with some invaluable leadership (just imagine if he convinced Cato to work out with him), I think the Rockets would be crucified publicly if they signed him and not Hakeem. Hakeem would have to insist on a contract significantly greater than what Robinson wants in order for the front office to justify signing the latter. Of course, if Robinson comes to Houston, you can lower the Spurs playoff chances significantly and that might be worth it. ------------------
