By no means am I calling you out but I thought I read one of your posts that said you have not seen him play in a while? Just trying to clarify. I'm not expecting Andersen to wreck shop, just hoping he is servicable until things are back on track. He will most likely suffer on the defensive side, but offensively he should be solid in this system eventually. Morey on 1560 said Scola is very excited and thinks he is a player. So as long as everyone is not expecting superstardom he hopefully will be fine
Might as well have both win the distinction. Both guys proved their worth and show cased their potential to the fullest.
I remember people were calling Scola a flop well into his rookie season as well. There will very likely be an initial period where David Andersen does not look good. I'm more interested in what kind of player he'll be for us in his second season, or what he may fetch for us in a trade.
EASILY C-BUD! He had it all going on! Knockin down the long range, putting on the floor and driving to the basket, and excellent free throw shooting. Chase is the man and I think he WILL get floor minutes during the reg season! Now here is where I get flamed.... I found Dorsey to be very unimpressive. I know, I know, what the stat sheets say... but actually watching the games in person, he just didnt dominate as I had hoped. As of yesterday, Dorsey led the Summer league in rebounds per game, but most of those seemed to just fall to him. I didnt really see him fighting for position and exerting his obvious strength. He had good hustle, but didnt 'move' players. Offensively was disappointing... against summer league players, he should have been dominating and throwing stuff down constantly. Don't get me wrong, I like Dorsey, I wanted him to excel... were this his rookie year, I'd be enamored - i just expected more on the offensive end and fewer turnovers....
Defense wasnt great... but he did move well as a defender. For a rookie, i'm not greatly concerned. He appears to have the skillset (observant, quick enough, etc) but can certainly use some additional work and coaching.
Chase closed out very well on shooters from what I saw. I think will get at least a block a game off players not respecting his 40 inch vertical when they try to shoot over him.
I haven't seen as much of him over the last Euroloeage season, I'd say I have seen him play probably 3 games in the last 12 months...but that is more than enough for me to know he aint Dirk/Scola or even close. I'm not even confident he'll still be in the NBA beyond next season. I hope I'm wrong.
1. Just because he won't be Dirk or Scola doesn't mean he can't be a contributor. If he can contribute anything at all, and I'm sure he can, he will be more than a waste of a pickup. 2. 3 games in 12 months may be enough to tell if he will be Dirk/Scola or not, but it is way too small a sample size to go any further than that. Definitely not enough to doubt him being in the NBA beyond next season, because more likely than not he will be. The deal he signed is 2 years guaranteed.
Eh, from what I can tell, he won't ever play in the NBA. Which, for a 54th pick, was a very long shot to begin with. Nothing gained, nothing lost.
Dorsey was definitely the MVP for the team. C-bud was great but Dorsey was a monster. C-bud is no doubt a phenomenal shooter. He plays in the flow of the offense. He never forces anything. He has solid handles (he played point guard at the end of the game) and is a decent passer. Defensively, he was solid. He contested all the shots. But he wasn't very aggressive nor explosive. I know that he has a incredible vertical, but i really didn't see it in play similar to James white. I mean if your 6'7 and has 40 inch vertical, i expect you to get more than 2 rebounds per game. And his drives to the baskel doesn't looked very explosive nor strong. I always felt that the defenders can just send his shots flying. And finally, when you shoot 68 percent from the field and 70 percent from threes, i expect you to take more than 10 shots. Overall, Budinger needs to be more aggressive more offense and needs to learn how to finish strong. Dorsey, on the other hand, was a beast. He was the anchor of the defense. he was on the reason why the rockets were unbeaten. I remembered one game when he was on the bench because of foul trouble. The other team was just killing the rockets on the board and driving to the paint at will. When he came back, he controlled the paint by blocking and altering shots. on the offense end, he was effective. he created many second chance opportunities for his team. He finished nicely around the rim. He showed a solid stroke from the ft line. And he was also a solid passer. Dorsey FTW
The original point of my posting was to quell the many that were comparing him to Scola/Dirk and wondering if he could be on that level. Even so, I still doubt that he'll be in the NBA, even if the 2nd year is guarenteed there is nothing that says he actually gets on the court in 10/11. I am leaving it at that re David...I honestly do dislike having to post negatively about a fellow Aussie. Its just been hard differentiating my feelings as an Aussie and as a Rockets fan - but my ROF status comes first.
I voted for Air Bud, but I wouldn't have a problem with that. Joey finally showed us why he was drafted. About time!
