He should just really cut out the 3 point shots in general. Based on raw percentages, he raises his effective FG% a little bit by shooting 3s, but this doesn't take into account him not getting many FT attempts from those shots and more importantly, the long rebounds that happen on the misses, causing our great half-court defense not to be set. If he patterned his game more like Bonzi's he would look like Bonzi+passing+better jump shot. He might even add in some offensive rebounds as a result. He would be slightly more efficient individually, but I think the overall impact on team offensive and defensive efficiency would be larger.
Tmac only take 17 fade way, 70% means not much in such small sample size. Yao's jump shoot is bad, although mostly contested shoot.
how come Yao's jumper is so off. Most of the time he shoots off-balance(due to two hands push off by the defender ) and in the crowd. So he should shoot less jumpers, more hooks.
Battier hasn't made a single dunk all season??????? For a 6 8 wing player that is just bizzare. Not even 1? I guess Yao really does clog up the paint some times.
The general consensus on the board is T-Mac is actually a pretty good shooter when he catches and shoots it. Be that off screens or kickouts for an open 3. He struggles on pullup 3's and yo-yo 3's. And Bonzi must have some serious lay-up streaks.
Yao is not shooting well as a jump shooter.....he needs to pick that up. Also, I would like to see Rafer's stats of "Catch and shoot" versus "off the dribble" does anyone have that stat? DD
The thing that’s surprising to me is that Alston makes 55.4% of his layups compared to T-Macs 47.5%. I cringe every time Alston throws up a floater. Surely they are counting the floater as a layup.
That's the key, and supports what I've said about Tracy since he's been in Houston. That being, the problem isn't that he doesn't like driving to the basket, but that once he gets there he has a terrible conversion rate (the lowest of the rotation players). As I stated last year: http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showpost.php?p=2776758&postcount=32
this is cool. although i think the only real takeaway for me is that a "bad shot" completely and totally depends on who is taking it.
Some observations: 1. Yao's jump shot% (35.2%) is too low. and he maybe took too much of it (about 40%?) 2. To guys whom bashed Hayes can't finish layup. Hayes layup% is on top of the team with Battier and Landry's layup 48% is on the bottom of team and way below Hayes%.
The difference is that Chuck's layups are almost exclusively wide open and/or assisted, where as most of the other players attempt layups off the dribble and under more duress in general.
As far as I can tell, the "teardrop" or "floater" shot is called different things in the play by play. Sometimes it's "floating jump shot" or "running jump shot," it may be given other names as well depending on who's doing it. I would guess that most of the time, those shots are incorporated in the jump shot category and not the layup category.
according to those stats mcgrady is best suited for a mid range game. Instead of him starting out a the top of the 3pt line so much have him run around picks and screens ala hamilton....
Also, the play by plays I looked at didn't say whether the shot was attempted directly off a pass or off the dribble. That would have been interesting to know.
