If I recall correctly we won a championship with a 6'5" SF...hmmmm. We will be better defensively and they say that wins championships, we'll see. I like the pickup.

    well said Darkhorse,

I agree with DVauthrin's comments very much, too.

    Piatkowski + Griffin > Posey

Yay! Griffin will work his butt off and contribute in virtually ever part of the game. Good guy, good all round game.

I'm with HP, DV, & co on this :).

Let's hope, because that would still leave $2.5m or so in the MLE to use on a veteran PG. Looks like they appear done at getting help to lower Mobley's minutes.

The problem with the rockets the past several years is that we don't have very many defined role players on the team if any. Players really don't know their roles, including Yao and Stevie. Yao needs to learn that he should be da man on the team. Stevie is a point guard and should get his teammates involved first to open up for himself later in the game. Cat should know that he's not the superstar and should only take opportunity shots created by doubleteams on Yao and Steve. There were no leaders or vets the young players can learn from. No intense defensive specialist. Not many spot up shooters to hit 3's to take pressure off of Yao and Stevie. So on and so forth. WE NEED ROLE PLAYERS...

I'm glad he's go a little age & experience on 'em, instead of what much of our current players have-"I was drafted...I aint'gotta work!"

Another solid move by the Rox... Griffin is as annoying a defender as Posey was, and combined with Pike, the Rockets have improved themselves by picking up two effective role players. And its role players that will help the Rockets adapt to JVG's system sooner.

I agree with your equation, and wanted to add that...In the 2003-2004 season, the league min for a player with 4 years experience is $688,679...In 04-05, the league min for a player with 5 yrs will be $807,546...

So, we'll probably sign him to a 2 year deal worth $1.5mm...

    ERGO,

Pike salary + AG salary < Posey's Griz Salary

    $2.45mm + $.688mm < $5.5mm

I wish we would have been equally frugal with Rice, MoT, Mooch's contracts...

    SOLID PICKUP!!

Got to see a lot of Griffin with the Mavs over the last couple of years. He's strong, a pretty good defensive player, a good rebounder for his size, and not afraid to mix it up. He has a good mid-range jumper.

His toughness and tenacity will be a big plus. And he doesn't need the rock to thrive. Not as flashy or fast as Posey but a good addition.

well, they could also use the $1m exception, which is different than the Vet Min, and I think goes for as much as $1.5m/yr nowadays.

To me, the most important thing about this signing is that it means we're, before signing one more player to fill out the roster, better than last season.

    Griffin + Pike or Posey?

I really wanted to re-sign Posey, but I think this is a very good deal. Especially if it's for the minimum.

We will DEFINITELY be surprised by Adrian Griffin's offense. I think he had MANY good offensive games for the Celtics in his first year, and at some point took a starter's spot in the team and became their 3rd scorer.

If we sign Mark Jackson or Charles Oakley, we're in great shape.

Man, lets hope so. And a vet PG would do the same for Francis. They've been playing too many minutes for too long and they aren't 20 anymore. We need them fresh at the end of the regular season.

Glad we got Griffin, but I hope we aren't finished.

well....I hate to say it, but at this point they are very well primed to trade Mobley for a plethora of PGs, and move Francis to SG.

Posey > Pike + Griffin. Bad for Rox. JPo is a starter, the other two are role players. They're OK, but JPo is loads better!

Oak was over the hill five years ago. He is done, spent. He'd have Yao's back -- if Yao needed to b****slap an opponent at a shoot around. Please, Oak, stay very far away from this team.

not that I agree with the idea of moving SF to SG, but it must be said.

Just a reminder to those of yall calling this a good pickup. Adrian Griffin lost his minutes to Walt Williams in last year's playoffs. Just something to think about....

I don't know what his wingspan is, but it could be pretty long which could help. I know I saw a thread and someone suggested a 6'4" dude for SF. I was thinking he was crazy, but then I heard the guy had like a 7-7'2" wingspan.

I'm not saying he DOES have a long wingspan. I have no idea. But if he has a good one, it may help make up the height difference.

I don't know if he is a good shooter, but if he shot 85% at the FT, he must have some kind of touch, I'd assume. Pretty good pickup, but I, like others, would like maybe one more move, preferably for a PG, to finish out the offseason. Though I guess we could also trade moochie for a bag of 5 million dollar chips and I'll be ok. ;)

i think this was a decent move by the rox we lost a good defender in j.posey but we gained a great outside shooter in pike and a decent defender in a. griffin. so over all i think we have improved a bit
