Really? I don't think you've read anything I wrote earlier. I think what just happened is that I wrote something that conflicts, in whatever tangential way, with your steve- cuttino- etc. bashing agenda. That's beside the point, excuse the pun, in this instance. So chill out. And btw, guys who can and do play multiple "positions", whenever necessary, whatever that may mean, are rule and not the exceptions . On the rockets roster multiple "position" players include: Eddie Griffin (F-C), Maurice Taylor (F-C), Adrian Griffin (G-F) Steve Francis (PG, SG) Glen Rice (PF, SF) Piatkowski (G-F). Hell, the only guys who line up in the same spot every single minute of every night are Moochie and Ming, and Cato. So much for your "rare breed".
JR, you aren't much for making your case, are you. Nope, just the quick "everyone is just insane and ludicrous." Come on, JR, state your case...because I'm going to stat JVG's case, right now. 16 Playoff teams passed on Posey. More than the Rockets think he is not worth that money. You are simply in denial that our bench sucked last year and we need to build an experienced bench. Posey is a revolving door player like Piatkowski. We can get guys like this every summer as long as we don't get strapped on long contracts that can't be moved. Posey will be an unmoveable $6m contract in his 3rd year. Too much risk for me. I'd rather have build the bench first. Besides, exactly what money is CD/JVG not spending? They are already more than halfway to spending the money that we appear set to deny Posey. $5m paid on 3 players will = $5m denied Posey. JR, calling this ludicrous simply is not addressing our bench. Piat and Griffin > Posey, because quality bench > Posey as a starter w/no bench These moves helps us lower Mobley's minutes, and Posey cannot do that without increasing Rice's mintues backing up Posey. Your idea has Francis, Mobley, Posey, Rice covering 3 positions, with the rest being inexperienced scrubs who might never develop. JVG's plan now has 5 experienced players covering 3 positions, and he has more flexibility to add more players, than your plan does. JVG's plan > JR's plan Don't blame this on Les, especially if/when we grab another experienced player to reach Posey's salary.
I've watched Griffin up here Dallas the past few seasons, and he has improved. When Finley went down for something like 8-10 games he filled in very nicely. Griffin along with Piatkowski will more than make up for what we lost in Posey.
'Steve and Cuttino Basher'? You and your infatuation with labeling...; ) I am just saying that Steve is not a point guard, ok, and a point guard has specific duties, different duties than a forward or center, ok, and labels I dont like either, but most players in the league are not so super versatile where they can play more than two positions, so they need position labels.
The ecuation is: Griffin+Pike >? Posey?? x=1 y=1 x adrian-- 6 Y T-Morris 5 x Pike------7 > Y Posey---8 mmm 13 > 13????????????? or: NACHBAR + Pike > Posey? (playing time) or: Griffin + Pike > Posey + Joaquin???' no because the ecuation really is: Griffin + Nachbar + Pike < Posey + T-Mo + Hawk?? griff=6 x Posey=7.5 y Boki=6.5 x T-Mo=6 y 19,5 < 20 Pike=7 x Hawk=6.5 y (Rice will play the same) in my opinion Hawkins is better than Griffin. Better passer, the same defender, better shot. With this addition (Griffin) he will be out. He or Griffin, so I hope Jeff fire Griffin, not Joaquin. For me Griffin don“t improve this team more than Hawkins. So "D+" offseason.
Exactly...that's what I was waiting for someone to say. The point that 16 playoffs team *all* passed on Posey means they all think they have better players or better uses for their MLE. now, explain to me how that is a moot point? Posey is a marginal starter at best. 28-30mpg on a playoff team--as you illustrated. He is a platoon player for a playoff team, and we have no bench to platoon him with.
Can I declare HP the winner NOW?...Or do we have to wait for all the votes to come in?...Now? Ok, HP you are the winner! Congratulations.
i am reminded of a heavyweight fight where the opponent is getting pummelled in the corner. i am at home yelling at the referee to stop the fight. stop the carnage! TKO! TKO! TKO!
well, I'll be the one pummelled in the corner crying if we do use these bench additions to move Mobley for a real PG and SF to the 2.
What do you think of the Eric Piatkowski signing? Re-signing James Posey should be a bigger priority 33% The Rockets desperately needed a shooter of his caliber 26% He'll contribute, but I'm not sure how much 24% I like it a lot - he's just what the doctor ordered 10% I don't think he'll have much impact 7% I think now that we signed Adrian Griffin... This poll should change... i dont thinking signing posey is a bigger priority now... So yeah
dude that was no TKO. that went 12 rounds and RIET fought like a champ till the last round. after that heroic and inspiring match RIET is a true clutchity.net warrior.
interesting that you say that. while on one hand, i can easily see management doing something like that, i hope that they don't. if we're looking at PG: tba SG: francis SF: pike/gruff PF: griff/motay C: yao/cato that point guard has to be not only dynamic (not sure mobley fetches a dynamic point), but also, preferably a good shooter. i don't know that there is a PG available, at mobley's value, that fits that description. the posey comments from CD make me think that the rockets are still exploring possible deals that would make it reasonable and necessary to resign james posey. that, more than likely, would require trading mobes. my preference...for the record...is that we let posey walk, keep what we have, use the remaining MLE on a vet pg to back up steve, and use the $1M to sign a thug big man off the bench to help yao & cato...someone of the tony massenburg ilk. a player like that plays the 4&5, will bang yao & cato in practice, and would give JVG flexibility with the possibility of playing yao/cato at the same time (for brief stretches).
Welcome! Welcome! Welcome to the BBS! This is one guy who knows exactly what's goin on. Everything about this team is right on target to attain championships soon; CD has done an excellent job. Yes, I agree. SF needs to remain our point guard. He is fully capable of running the team and we shouldn't trade a great SG in Mobley when our team is already good the way it is.
the idea always expressed regarding a Mobley trade is addition by subtraction; that is, you could trade Mobley for a lesser value PG if you believe Francis would flourish at SG, and the PG would improve Yao and the fastbreak. The problem with that, imo, was that we had no bench and the PG would be in the 30-33mpg range of quality (see Tinsley/aging Snow being popular around here), leaving Francis still playing a lot of PG minutes. with a better bench (two guys who can play the 2 and 3), there are more guys to slide over when SF rests or when he is playing PG. another thing is that you could swap Mobley for another SG, or ... even still having Piat/Griff does free up moving Mobley for a SF who does everything better than Posey (<b>Mobley/Rice for Jalen Rose</b>). In this scenario, Piat starts at the 2 with backup in the form of SF and Griff, and the SF that Mobley landed is a significant player, with playmaking skills.
I like Piatkowski, but he is 1-dimensional. Hawk is better than Griffin. $$ drove the decision to take PKowski plus Griffin, NOT bench depth. You can go to your default "JR thinks everyone is insane" argument if you want, but it is faulty. Here are my opinions, laid out as simply as possible: I think Rudy was a moron, CD was/is pedestrian, and Les is cheap. Get your facts right. I am high on JVG as coach because it's not going to be the inmates running the asylum anymore. What other misconceptions need to be set straight, besides the fact that HP is about the worst talent scout on this board (remember, HP is the one who claimed that Ginobili would never amount to anything and couldn't hold Cuttino's jock after watching a preseason game last year). TKO my ass, unless being taken to your knees by the stink of HP's endless bull**** counts as being TKO'ed.
Rationalizations, rationalizations... Riet, Desert Scar, DearRock, I'm with you. I've pointed out in other threads my game examples I used to support my beliefs. I also can't believe the juvenile nature of some of our senior posters (snide, indeed) that declare victory when to my eyes it is their logic that is selective and flawed. It amuses me how some of these posters bash our points of view, and are happy to see Posey go, yet their sigs proclaim we should just love our Rockets. Well, I did appreciate Posey. I review game tapes and came to a conclusion that he could have grown into our championship-caliber role player. He was just getting used to the players, and starting to get some chemistry (and improving his FG%, making use of Yao to get easier opportunities). So in the end, Kenny Thomas, our starting PF, was just let go for nothing. Remember how we ripped Jeff a new one for proposing that was a distinct possibility? Well, it came true, props to you Jeff, not that I'm happy about the reality of the situation. It's been a traumatic few months for this fan, who's been one since the 1970's. The color of the logo (have you seen that awful pink at ESPN's Rockets site?). Some of the new regime and their decisions. But I digress... I see this franchise headed for Minnesota-style mediocrity at best. HP, if it makes you happy, I will blame JVG if it's proved he's solely to blame. But I do think it's CD or Les pulling more of the strings. I disagreed with Clutch's sig for you earlier this year, but I now I kinda miss it... Now if something else happens soon that reveals a bigger plan, or if next year A. Griffin provides a bigger contribution than T-Mo, or Pike contributes more than Rice, I'll eat my words. Until then, I am quite disappointed at the loss of our only adequate-quality SF.
sometimes i like to walk around naked, and when i do i think of my dog. my dog is a schnauzer and its grey
ah, the lamenting of kenny thomas. so, T-2, you think we would have been able to keep KT around, huh? $60mill over 6 years sound about right to you? if you think we were keeping KT (or could have kept KT), please explain how. otherwise, stop with the lamentations...
Philly overpaid big time, but who knows what other options we could have explored at the trade deadline. But I have never opposed that trade. However, I don't want to get sidetracked. I just don't see Posey at MLE being a big gamble, whereas not having a decent-caliber SF on your roster is definitely a gamble. Like Sane says, we could've traded him in the fourth year if we had to, and until then at no time would he have made 6M/yr, so everyone just stop with the 6M/yr stuff, it's 4.9 this year and an average of 5.5.
