But the argument that Memphis's offering him MLE means he is worth that much to us has no logic flow either.

I think A. Griffin is great for the Rockets. Why do you want Posey? He's so one dimensional player...can't shoot a thing...only defend that's all he does. So I don't understand why you're all raving about Posey game and want him to be back. Griffin can shoot and play defense. I heard some Mavs' fan say he's the "Kobe stopper" somewhat for their team. And he can knock down open jumpers as i remember when he play against the Kings last year in the Playoffs. What the Rockets need is shooters..and more SHOOTERS...and they have that with Piakowski and Griffin. But they still need a super calibar star like Brand and Bonzi Well to really take this team to another level. If they can make a trade for a superstar...that would be great.

    damn you are weak, tonight

ummm....I'm saying that Posey *did* go to the highest bidder, and that highest bidder is a cellar dweller, meaning many more teams than the Rockets didn't agree with Jerry West, who you use as your whole point.

If Posey is more than a marginal starter (which you argued), and

West grabbed him from us because JVG is strapped (which you argued)

Then that means that all playoff teams are strapped like JVG, or

none of the playoff teams have a starting role for him, or

Posey went to the highest bidder no matter how bad the team is.

OR... JVG is doing what he wants and he is just correct, and you are wrong. Not to mention he likely has 1/2 and MLE to spend still, and half the summer left.

    go to sleep RIET.

I heard this too, and I believed it because his 3 in NY was really a 4 (Larry Johnson) before Sprewell showed up. When Piatkowski was asked about playing the 3 on the radio the day after the signing, he said Van Gundy told him that the 2 and the 3 would be pretty interchangable, the two guys on the floor would defend the best match-up. I took this to mean we would see quite a bit of the 3 guard line-up.

How is he a legitimate starter. Name another legitimate starter at SF that shot less that 40% for most of his career.

I can think of only one at that is Bowen, and Bowen didn't start until his shooting improved.

    Oh Please.

    Let's review

He picked Piatkowski and Griffin to pass on Posey, and he likely has half the MLE to still use.

That was an either/or. What youre saying is he picked 3 players instead of using it on 1. Does that mean Van Gundy really believes James Posey does not deserve MLE money? No. it does not say that. Per your statement, it says given the limitations, he had to do that. If the Rockets did not believe James Posey was a legitimate NBA starter, they wouldnt have tendered him a contract.

The fact you weigh a player's worth solely on roster moves by playoff teams is ludicrous.

Once and for all, what are you saying? You think James Posey is worth the same money as Eric Piatkowski? You think Jeff van Gundy believes that? Please.

I did a little research on 3's in the league and this is what I can up with. This is last years shooting percentages for 3's that shot enough to qualify. Note, last year was one of Posey's best years shooting while being a starter. Also not that the only starters below him in shooting percentage had to carry the scoring load for their miserable teams. When Posey was the man in Denver, he shot around 37% which would have been the worse in the league for starters. So why does everyone ride Posey's Jock? I understand he is decent defensively but you still have to put the ball in the hole. In that regard, he is one of the worse that plays significant minutes.

He a good pickup. I remember him with Boston. He creates match up problems for PF and SF.

The deal is this...he's too strong for some SF to guard him and too quick for some PF to guard him.

He's stronger and bigger than Mario.

In fact, Mario was too small for SF. He was more a undersized SF or slow SG.

    1. he played on a god-awful Denver team where he was the 2nd scoring option. He took a lot of bad shots because no one else could score.

    2. Look at last year. he shot a higher FG% than Ricky Davis, Latrel Sprewell, Jerry Stackhouse, or Jalen Rose.

    3. Look at last year with the Houston Rockets. He shot almost 44% which is higher than Mike Miller, Glenn Robinson, Ron Artest, Michael Finley, Jamaal Mashburn, or Caron Butler.

44% is very decent and is also higher than Steve Francis or Cuttino Mobley.

Of course I would never base a player's worth solely on FG%. I mean, that would be just STUPID, wouldnt it?

Mike Miller 2.6 mil, Matt Harpring 4.5 million, Larry Hughes 4.5 mil, Brent Barry 5 million, Ben Wallace 5.2 million, Bobby Jackson 2.7 mil, M. Redd 3 mil, Baron Davis 3.9 mil, T. Hudson, Artest, Donyell Marshall, and even Steve Nash only makes 5.75 mil. So will someone on the board please explain to me how in the he__ Posey deserves 5+ mil per year. He couldn't hold any of these guys jock strap and he is going to make double what some of these guys make????? Posey < MLE $

Who was Denver's 2nd leading scorer? And which team ranked last in FG %?

    Thanks for playing.

And he shot 37% when he was the second leading scorer on the sorriest team in the NBA.

I enjoyed playing, so what did I win?

    Nothing other than selective reasoning.

He played on the 2nd worst team in the NBA and shot 37%. He came to the Rockets and shot 44%.

But that's irrelevant of course. What really matters is his career FG%.

Of course all those players below him shot worse because they played on a poor team and had to take a lot of shots. And that logic does not apply to James Posey who played for the poorest FG% shooting team in the league and was the 2nd leading scorer.

Miller, rookie contract. Fat extention after the season.
    Harpering, MLE.
    Hughes? Bum.
BBarry, contract signed when he was a bench player.
BWallace, who could have predicted his upside? How would you like to negotiate his next contract? Or Bobby Jax'?
    Davis signed a max extention.
    etc etc

JPo got a contract in line with what he should have. He just should have gotten it from Houston.

But those guys were the goto guy on their team and shot much better than 37%. Its not even close. I'm not saying 44% isn't a decent clip but he did that for a half a season out of 4 seasons of playing. And you want to reward that with an average 6 million a year. Did you know that MoT's contract started out at 6 million a year which is only 1.1 million more than Posey's where Posey's starts. We complain about MoT's contract all the time, but atleast MoT is a PF that has proven he can score up to 20 points a game at a high percentage being the goto guy.

First off if you are suggesting in an 82 game season that one game defines a player's game, you are really grasping for straws. Second, both griffin and posey have the same tenure in the league and adrian's overall fg percentage has been equal or better in 3 of the 4 years. And his cost is much less than posey's. I realize posey has more youth, upside and potential, so he is a more sought out commodity, plus his good size for a wing man helps. But griffin plays very solid defense, and has posted good rebounding numbers as well.

To suggest james posey is anything more than a defensive minded role player is nuts. He will not become anything more than the 3rd or probably 4th best player on a championship caliber team. And since griffin is coming for probably the mimimum and posey about 4 mil more, and we used that extra cap space to get the shooter we need to utilize yao's passing, i'm happy with the moves.

In fact, I overvalued posey's shooting, as the 32.6% 3 pt shooting, was just from his rockets stint last year, so his average was once again around 30 percent for the year. As far as this myth goes his percentage sucks in his career because he had to take more shots than he should, his highest shot per game number is 13.0, then 10.3, then around 7 shots a game. Griffin, had 5.7, 2.2(his worst year by far), 6.2-year one in dallas(shot 49.9% btw), 4.5 on this years super deep mavs squad.

I realize posey has more "potential" and "upside" than griffin, but what is so hard to figure out that both are "role players" now and in the future on good teams and griffin will make 3-4 mil less for fewer years than posey will. Plus you add piatkowski, the shooter we need, to griffin and we still have money in the MLE left, whereas if we sign posey we have none.

Griffin is a very good defender, probably not as good as james, nor is he got the potential of posey or the size, but he knows his limitations and plays within himself and is a good role player.

Combined griffin and piatkowski give us the player we hoped posey was showing signs of becoming, and are coming cheaper too, so we can get another cheap vet pickup for the pg or pf slot on the team.

I just personally don't think we lose much going from posey to griffin, and are better than last year when you add piatkowski to the max.

Plus, why spend the LT, if we are just shooting for the 7th-8th seed this year. Posey is not a player that could make us a top 4 team this year right away, he just isn't that good.

I hope that explains why I like the moves.

BTW: Just because gm's value certain players higher than you are I do, doesn't make them smarter than us. Look at the propensity for lottery gm's to pass up better current players for the potential of high schoolers nowadays. Unless they all know they are getting fired and postpone getting the axe by using the "youth experience" line.

    1. James Posey improved his shot while with the Rockets.

    2. James Posey is a gazelle. If you ever watch him run, he takes these long strides that just eat up the hardwood. If we had any type of transition game, this guy would be super dangerous.

    3. James Posey wanted to stay in Houston. James Posey lives in Houston during the offseason and by all indications wanted to play here. I honestly believed that if we offered him anything that was even close to what Memphis offered, he wouldve signed with us. Instead we low-balled him and Memphis gave him their entire MLE. In my opinion, we took a calculated gamble hoping nobody would offer him anything and we lost.

We paid Piatkowski the same money we offered Posey. That is ridiculous . There isn't a sane person alive who could tell me with a straight face that a 32 year old Eric Piatkowski is worth the same as a 26 year old James Posey.

What is the logic flow? A legitimate starter worth MLE? So other 16 teams not offering him MLE means he won't be starting on any of those teams? Does it say he is good or bad?
