Those stats don't tell you about the situations he was playing in. He's gotten inconsistent minutes during his last couple bouts due to various reasons/crappy situations. When he was down here in Phoenix, the team, coach and season were ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE. From top to bottom, that team was a mess. I remember going to a game with ThunderD, and we were shocked by the mess on the court. I think they were playing the Spurs, so it looked much worse in comparison, but Goran had about 8 turnovers, players were bickering on the bench and Gentry looked clueless. At another game, Coach Hunter was cussed out by at least 4 guys on the bench (Beas wasn't included). You could hear it where we were sitting, but Lindsey acted like nothing was going on. That was enough of an indicator of the season the Suns were having. They were rebuilding, hoping that Goran would be an MVP-type guard, developing the twins and had some awful players on the roster. The only bright spot, for me, was being able to see good ol' Luis Scola play a bit. Anyway, despite all of that, Beas had a decent season under the circumstances. With Miami, his playing time was limited with the Big 3 and later on with the Heat's post-Lebron troubles. He got lost in the rotations, but again, that team didn't play well, and coach Spo isn't known for playing younger, free-spirited type of players. Still, the numbers suggest Beas made decent contributions in both of those seasons. In fairness, Michael's reputation in the league has been mixed. I don't know how it was in Miami, but in Phoenix, he was troubled off of the court more so than on the court. That team was a horrible mess, but despite that, he wasn't the main problem. Overall, the thing with MB is that he's really been a "bust" for being DRAFTED 2nd! I forgot all about that until someone reminded me. He's a guy who can easily drop 20 on a team, but he needs a sense of stability and security. I'm not sure our mix of guys will be the best for him on a personal level, but Morey probably looks at him like our first round with JSmoov. Low risk, high reward type of outcome. Ty didn't work out for obvious reasons, but Beas has the chance to get some burn, based on the offense we're running. I hope our bigs in Dwight and Josh, along with Trev, take him under their wing for the rest of the year. He could learn how to play better defensively from Dwight and Trev, and JSmoov could show him how to use his jab-step and go to spin-move in the post. Despite how Josh has played lately, and regardless of the hate he's gotten for ridiculous reasons, he knows the 4-game well. He's not the reason the Rockets have been a disappointment this year. Beas' could learn a lot from him. I'm looking forward to this move. We needed another guy who could score, especially at multiple front-court positions. With Ty giving us pretty much nothing this year, Beas can't be any worse.
I feel the same way, beasley is definitely a NBA talent and scoring is hard to come by for our group. Where can you find a player that can burst out 20 points a game on a min contract for the remainder of the year? Joe johnson, but he went to maimi. There isnt a better player to pick up at the moment. Lawson gave us almost nothing so this will be a welcome scoring punch to our team. Plus he has size, he can run and he post up against smaller player. I can see rotation of Terry/ Brewer/Beasley/Dmo/Smith on the floor - that would be a pretty interesting line up.
As long as you recognize that all of those things are subjective. I don't know if any of us can fairly call a player an "idiot," without knowing who they are, where they come from and their current circumstances. That's why the alleged "idiots" of the league do well on different teams, and fans are quick to label them based on chance encounters on SportsCenter. Even though we always hope for upstanding players,in most cases, athleticism ends up being more important than those traits you mentioned. The focus is primarily on winning, and later on, when opportunities become available, developing the character skills that are expected by a team, organization or league. Beas will be fine here, just like Ty was. As bad of a year Ty had statistically, he was great in the locker room, and he is one of those guys that people love to categorize with unfair names, without truly comprehending who the individual is and the complicated circumstances in their life.
This is beyond desperation. As a GM, you have to be mentally ill to sign your name on a contract for this man.
Nah... It is for 20 games and a team option for next year. The Rockets have 1 PF under contract for next year. He has talent and is older with a baby and wife, we will see. If it doesn't work out he goes back to China.
Nah, definitely not. If Morey didn't sign anyone, or if he signed someone who couldn't shoot, then I would agree with you. Beas is known for his offense and versatility to play the 3/4, and rarely, the 5 spot. I think it will be a positive move, especially if we make the playoffs. We're not good enough to be a top seed, but we're not bad enough to tank.
Have always liked Beasley. Always seemed like a good guy, but the pot got the best of him in the past. If he has his head on straight, he should get Smoove' minutes. Way better shooter.
