This is a solid pickup for the Rox. Once MJax gets back in game shape, he will make sure we get easier shots. Thats all you can really ask for. All I can say is, let the man play before you bash this signing. Hell, in the very least we are adding a playoff tested veteran to a team that hasn't been to the playoffs in a while. This surely can't hurt.

Give it a chance. We've become too bash happy on this board.

Mark Jackson maybe old and slow, but I bet he can finish more fast breaks than Francis ever will...

JVG has done a really good job with the backcourt this year, he did exactly what I hoped:

He removed Moochie, added Mark Jackson and Pike. Then he took away a lot of Mobley and Steve's freedom in controlling the ball, and has told them specifically what he expects.

All in all, our backcourt is MUCH smarter than last year. Steve and Mobley aren't too smart in terms of understanding the game, but with Pike and Mark Jackson backing them up, towards the end of the season, we'll be doing great.

Pike, Yao, MoT and JJ will all benefit from the few minutes Mark Jackson will get.

I'm positive he'll get more than 10 minutes when he's in shape though. Moochie was getting 18, and MJ is at least as good as Moochie.

Right now, the only thing that worries me is if Francis resists change.

Why did the Pacers bring Mark Jackson back to play 3 more years after he left for Denver for one year?

i really like this pick up. Francis could use a player around him who has the mentality of pas first. and jackson is a good post passer, like alot have said. and do you al remember the drive and pass out that jackson always played with smits. think about that play with a center as talented as Yao:D

I don't see SF "learning" from Mark Jackson- look Steve is still smarting from people mentioning Yao more times than he would like!

If MJ can reduce turnovers by 4 Per game and plays 20 Crucial minutes, we should win most close games.

How many times did Steve Shoot the ball at the last second before the quarter ends! At least now we can get one good shot with Yao/CATO dunking! Needless to say how many times he blew fast breaks by not passing the ball to the trailer! Come on Steve grow up- this is still your team unless you get "dumber"!

Atleast I hope we play smart basketball- boring as it may be. A dunk or crazy 3- point shot? Dunk wins most times!

And that right there is the genius in the signing. That's pretty much all we are asking of him.

I'll reserve judgement on this until I see how he does on the court. If it looks like he will be able to get back in shape (or, Lord willing, is already in game shape) then I don't see how it's a bad signing. Mark Jackson's game never relied on speed or quickness, so his high age won't affect him as much as it would a player like Francis. And as countless others have pointed out, the instruction he could give Francis and Mobley about seeing the floor and making the correct pass in the correct way will be highly valuable. However, having said that, if he is past the point of being able to get into game shape, then this is just window dressing to make it look like the Rockets are doing something, because if he can never get on the floor and play, I doubt Francis or Mobley will listen to him. They strike me as the kind of people that will need to see results before they are convinced that there is a better way than their way.

A player like Mark Jackson with his superior passing skills and high offensive basketball IQ will definitely help this rocket team. Whether it's in the game or on the practice court his type of passing becomes contagious and makes playing basketball fun. Expect to see alot of no look passes, touch passes and some pretty fastbreak passes. MJ is one of the better chemistry signings for the rockets in a while.

there is virtually no risk in this signing. the reward is potentially good. So quit the bashing.

the choice isn't between MJackson and some superstar guard. The choice is between MJackson and crap that's floating around the fringe of the league. The only risk is that M Jackson plays worse than M Wilks. So what if he does. We dump his ass. End of story.

We should have signed this guy to a 10 day....

Point guard Rob Dye, who played for the Gary Steelheads and Grand Rapids Hoops last season.

"I like Rob because he can push the ball," Daleo said. "He came to two of our free-agent camps and played extremely well. He's a physical point guard, a lot like Kelley McClure and brings some CBA and USBL experience, which is nice.
