Great singing by the Rockets. Rocket needed a player to fill the Dicky Simpkins role, and they finally got their man.

Awful name. Sounds like a hot chick, not an NBA player.

FYI, once the Dwight Howard signing occurred, the Rockets then had 9 players under contract (Howard, Harden, Lin, Asik, Jones, Motiejunas, Parsons, Smith and Beverley), 3 incomplete roster charges ($490,180 each, equal to the rookie minimum), and $570,515 in cap room (reserved for Isaiah Canaan).

This meant that the Rockets could either start signing vets like Garcia and Casspi, or they could first utilize the salary "trapped" in those incomplete roster charges by signing undrafted rookies. Morey and staff, being forward-thinking, chose the latter.

The Rockets had already agreed to sign Robert Covington immediately following the draft. (I think they may have increased the guaranteed money after his summer league performance.)

Houston also signed B.J. Young to a 3-year deal (with only a $40k guarantee) after a pretty solid summer league. More importantly, having Young in Rockets training camp would allow the RGV Vipers to have exclusive D-league rights on Young if/when he were cut.

This left the Rockets with one more incomplete roster charge to fill or otherwise let "go to waste" if they didn't sign another rookie. But given the vets they had already lined up (Garcia, Casspi, and possibly Williams and Brooks by this point), the Rockets were probably looking for someone willing to take a contract with little to no guaranteed money. Guys like Vander Blue and Casper Ware were probably either going to get better offers or at least want to hold out for a better deal.

    Enter Jordan Henriquez.

Thoroughly unimpressive but at least a big body who could be an effective post defender at the NBADL level, Henriquez fell right into that sweet spot between "undrafted rookie with legit hopes of making an NBA roster" and "scrub who won't help the organization at all".

Henriquez signed without any guaranteed money. He'll give the Rockets a big body in training camp and will perhaps give the Vipers a quality big man.

And THAT, my friends, is (my best guess as to) why the Houston Rockets signed Jordan Henriquez.

It's hard for me to tell if he really did good or you just think he did and that's because of your signature.

You have an all time starting 5 that doesn't have Jordan in it, that's just wrong anyway you look at it.

    Bima,

Is having a rookie in Rockets training camp what gives RGV exclusive rights or is giving him guaranteed money what gives RGV exclusive rights to sign undrafted rookies without them going through the d-league draft?

Rockets should just give Henriquez's spot to an avid clutch fan member, or a red rowdy. Would be entertaining and rewarding to the fan.
