The days of a max salary slot being enough to Louis superstar are long gone. You have to have an established infrastructure, a desirable city, and a core that is ready to win. We had none of those this previous off-season. Vanvleet is not over paid because he would’ve gotten essentially the same deal elsewhere. We can opt out of this in two years and he is going to be a brilliant role model and really actually fits very well from a basketball perspective. Amen/Jalen/FVV is pretty exciting to have, and really covers a lot of bases. I kind of got burned out on the BBS and was probably on here a lot less than I ever have been this summer, but I am super ready to watch this group of players. if you would’ve told me the day that we traded Harding in January 2021 that we would have this group of six guys in October 2023, I would’ve been satisfied with that. I feel like a superstar will emerge.
A talent like KPJ coulda made that read and pass while driving home at halftime and simultaneously tossing some soup out the window. A skill set this team will sorely miss.
I'm actually over the moon with the FVV signing. People were pretty negative but for me he seems to be exactly who I'd want in his position. He's unselfish, hard working/blue collar no frills basketball. Great fundamentals, his patience on the ball moving between screens is superb. Is he flashy? Nah, but we don't need that, we've got plenty of flash in our youngsters. Most of all from all I can tell he sincerely wants to be here. This isn't a superstar vet "stuck babysitting kids." This is a guy who sees our whole situation as an opportunity and has the drive to develop our young guys. Not babysit, not eclipse, he's out here talking about being part of that development and coaching process. If he carries on like this he might become one of my favourite Rockets players, even if he's only here a couple years.
But FVV can throw soup while driving home more accurately than KPJ ever could. Although there's no video of FVV passing soup, we all can see that by watching how he can drive and throw the ball while two big men converge on him.
still can’t believe we had Peon running point and someone like Daishen Chips getting genuine rotation minutes…can’t wait until I can finally forget about the last 3 years of Rockets basketball
If I'm Fred Vanvleet I'm excited that the only standard I have to surpass is that of Kevin Porter Jr.
This is what he is most excited about VanVleet agreed to a three-year, $130 million contract with the Rockets this offseason, which will make him the highest-paid undrafted player in NBA history.
I've seen many a passes better than that here Helps to keep your eyes open when watching basketball, sometimes
It's a damn shame he ruined his career by being a moron off the court. The current Rockets team could really use a quality guard that can shoot to help FVV out.
Yep he was developing nicely ON the court, just not off the court. Strictly basketball wise, the team misses his unique skillset. IMHO, he would have beaten out Green for the starting SG spot.... DD
@MystikArkitect you should read this. Key words: little by little. That’s out of the mouth of Ime Udoka - renowned for holding players accountable and chewing them out and spent all summer watching Green.
Maybe....he has been a point guard all his basketball life. Raptors used VanVleet off ball to start the season because Scotty Barnes and Siakim scored higher in ppp when facilitating in the restricted areas the season before. Neither are referred to as point guards.
