If yesterday showed us anything. it showed us we need more strength down low. There's a slim chance Diamon Johnson could bring that but the risk is almost nothing. These are actually moves I like to see Morey make. Try to pluck a Diamon in the rough ;) from anywhere in the world, sign him to a 3 year deal guaranteeing only the end of the first year, (Less than 100,000) and see what comes of him. I am sure after watching Milsap torch our 3's Morey was eader to get this kid.

DraftExpress--even though it lists him as "6-7" on the profile--shows his actual predraft measurements as him being 6-8.5 in shoes.

Given his wingspan (nearly 7-1), that's not really undersized for a PF.

What is the average PF's size these days? Seems to me it is more than 6'9" now.

Dirk, Pau, KG, Love, Griffin, Duncan.....

I know there are some exceptions like Milsap, but aren't most 6'10" or taller?

Yes, 6-8.5 in shoes is below average; but a 7-1 wingspan is probably above average. And since you don't block shots with your neck, it more than evens out.

Regardless, it's not like this guy is ever going to be a meaningful contributor for this team. Morey's taking a flyer on him, plus he's small trade filler for a draft-day or offseason trade.

Not if you average in the height of all the 4s the Rockets have brought into the league.

Nothing really significant here. They might need the bodies going into this Summer. Obviously wont be a contributor the rest of the season.

Are you kidding me, Boykins does not get a contract and a freaking diamond and fortson do?

This is more a product of Boykins DECLINING the contract offer from the Rockets than about one not being made (or at least I would imagine).

Both Fortson and Simpson agreed to NON-GUARANTEED second years on their contracts in exchange for the financial security of a rest-of-this-season guarantee. The non-guaranteed second year allows the Rockets to include their salaries in trades as filler and also gives them a free look at those player over the summer.

It's quite likely Boykins wouldn't agree to those terms.

I was just curious, because Morey went out of his way to call PPat "RIGHT" sized, and it seems he is a bit undersized as well.

D-Mo if he is a PF, would be taller.....

It was more about me wondering where the league is these days....I agree, he is probably not going to be an NBA player for long.

But one thing to note, longer wingspans are great, but if they are short, the arm starts from a lower point.

    ;)

    Carry on.

I believe the Rockets only had 14 people on the roster anyways unless I forgot about another D-Leaguer. I dont think Boykins will have to be cut.

Duly noted. If you're height is two inches shorter than someone else, then all else equal, it would help if your wingspan was about three-four inches longer. (Oh, and don't forget that some players' shoulder level may not be commensurate with their height. Example: former Rocket, Hilton "Giraffe Neck" Armstrong.) :p

This is why Elton Brand (6-8) is absolutely NOT an undersized PF. His wingspan is gargantuan.

I also think Patterson has average PF size across the board. The KGs, Dirks and Paus of the world are not as prevalent as you might think.

He looks decent, Tayshaun Prince like, would be nice if he had some muscles for defense but meh can't do much worse than Scola...hopefully he can rebound

I think I might take some time to look up the size of the starting PF's of the league...for grins....

Just another guy. Just another late season signing just like Mike Harris, Marcus Cousin, Marqus Blakely, Alexander Johnson, etc But good for Diamon for catching on in the NBA, if only even for a few months.

They may still sign him but Boykins is not in our future and with Lowry back he is not much in our present. By signing Fortson and Diamon they get to take a look at them in the summer league and preseason. Chances are neither amount to anything but the risk is very little and the reward could be very good. I particular like Simpsons history. He has put up numbers everywhere he's been. In college and every league. Scouts say he lacks this or he lacks that and yet he keep producing everywhere. That matters in my book.

We need someone who can get in there and fight for rebounds since Patterson doesn't like to mix it up with the big boys. So, I say lets see what this guy can do.
